OVERVIEW

Tone shaping for any signal source with a Drive control, footswitchable bypass, and SansAmp circuitry.

The Tech 21 SansAmp Para Driver DI Instrument Preamp Pedal provides detailed tone-shaping possibilities for acoustic guitars, electric guitars, and electric and upright basses, either direct to a mixing console or with an instrument amplifier. The Para Driver DI gives your instrument a natural warmth and presence, as if miking it through a tube preamp. The SansAmp circuitry eliminates the harsh, unnatural harmonics of piezo pickups, while the Drive control offers some edge-- ranging from just a little to over-the-top.

FEATURES
  • Active tone controls with 12dB of cut or boost
  • Sweepable semi-parametric EQ
  • 1/4" 4.7 megOhm instrument level input
  • 1/4" and XLR outputs with selectable levels
  • Parallel, unaffected output to run a dry signal to a separate channel
  • Mid Shift ranges from 160Hz to 3kHz, +/- 16dB
  • Blend has a regular full-size knob control
  • Rumble Filter switch removes unwanted sub-sonic frequencies that cause boominess and audible handling noises associated with acoustic guitars and also complements other instruments, such as electric guitar, for a snappier, more in-your-face sound
  • Air switch adds top-end clarity and sparkle to acoustics and complements other instruments, as well as vocals, for more definition and more open sound

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Para Driver DI Preamp Pedal V2:

I spent a lot of time researching a preamp to improve my bass tone, which the Para Driver certainly does, but with the rumble filter and tone shaping it's also ideal for acoustic guitar. I use it on everything now and drag it to live sessions too, it's essentially become an indispensable road tool. I often get compliments on my tone and it's due to this little guy in large part. My only complaint is now I want two, one for the home studio and one for the gig bag.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Para Driver DI Preamp Pedal V2:

This review is for the UPDATED Para DI. The newest version has a Rumble control (high pass filter) and an Air function (for giving you a brighter high end). I've owned the previous versions and I'm really happy with the new model, mostly because it allows for more versatility, and that's saying a lot since the previous versions were really flexible. Essentially, when using my acoustic, I use it as a straight DI box without it on. The input impedance is 4.7Mohm (good for acoustics with piezos- higher freq range than most standard DI boxes). When turned on, I can have a variety of tonal options, great for a chameleon like myself who also plays bass and electric guitar. And if you wanna add a little cruch to an acoustic, the blend control in conjunction with the drive (and rumble filter) make for a nice pairing. I'm also a harmonica player and I can use this as a nice warm overdrive preamp. Obviously you can do a lot with it.
I've also owned the Blond Character series pedal. That too is great but a bit different. If your primary instrument is an acoustic but sometimes use others (bass/electric) I think this is an all around great choice.
Knobs are smooth and built well. Nothing digital. Sure you don't have the bells and whistles of a digital modeler, but this has one goal: great tone. Buy it.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Para Driver DI Preamp Pedal V2:

This is not a preamp and will not add distortion by itself, but it takes my Mesa Stiletto amp and makes it sound like Stryper! Awesome Hair band guitar sound. Makes my clean channel sound larger, crisper- everything is just better.
This is everything I was looking for to get that 80's edge. Worth the money, excellent solid design, easy to use, adds the tone I so desired!

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Para Driver DI Preamp Pedal V2:

I use this just after my volume and clean boost pedal and before my overdrive pedal. Excellent sound for just about anything you plug into it. Makes my electric bass sing and adds punch and body to my electric guitar sound. Add this to your pedalboard to make whatever you plug into your pedalboard sound better. Top quality construction and made in the USA seals the deal.

          Monster Bass DI

          By andrewmac

          from Indiana

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Para Driver DI Preamp Pedal V2:

Stellar bass and acoustic tones. I would definately replace it if lost. Combine it
with a PSA for biamping an incredible bass sound. Thanks to tech 21 for making
products that work in the real world and not just at home in the bedroom.
Great DI, plenty of signal to the board with passive basses. The "mid" controls make
this more bass-friendly than the actual bass driver! (I sold my bass driver after getting
this.) In and outs give flexibility to serve any system. I send the para-driver signal to the
mixer/house while using the parallel out to go to a tech 21 PSA via power amp. Stunning.
Never have quality issues with tech 21 stuff.
Considering it is essentially an RPM for alot less money it is well worth the money.
This gets such great bass tones that I think it should be the "bass driver" that
every bass player desires to have. It does more, has the mid controls and has a
higher range of overdrive. It can also bring acoustic guitars to life. I don't like it for
overdriven electric sounds, but it would be a useful backup if a guitar amp failed on
          you.

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Para Driver DI Preamp Pedal V2:

After trying out several boxes, preamps and different EQ's etc..I got this box and this is it..that elusive tone I've been searching for..I use it for my bass rig since it has a mid shift adjustment that the Tech Bass Driver doesn't..my music requires I have 3 distinct tones...Clean/SVTish, Overdriven-Fuzzy..I run a BBE Bmax as my Clean Preamp, this for the SVTish tone, and when I engage a Digitech bass Driver and run all 3 I get the perfect distorted Bass tone without losing ANY Bottom end..The serach is over...I run the BBE pretty much Flat...with the Para mids about mid way with the gain at 3 o'clock..and the sonic max engaged...I run the Para Driver pretty close to the sample SVT setting in the manual with the blend at about 3 o'clock instead of all the way..and the Bass up a hair..and this thing was the missing link in my eternal search..thank you Tech 21..

          Audio Swiss Army Knife

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Para Driver DI Preamp Pedal V2:

This box does it all! For Live Performance, for audio recording, as a quick and easy amp-simulator. I have found many uses for this active DI box. What makes it unique beyond the connectivity features are the Active Controls. They not only cut frequencies but boost them ... so you can tailor your tone for electric guitar, acoustic guitar and vocals. Highly Recommended!

          Great for DI!

          By Tony the Closer

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Para Driver DI Preamp Pedal V2:

I bought this about a month ago, and I have to say it is one of the best purchases I have ever made in 20 years of guitar gadget buying. It delivers on everything it promises (which is a rarity). I record directly into garage band with this and this thing really warms up a Pod 2.0 and Alesis drum machine.

Can be the Ultimate Acoustica Simulator

          By Whit-8NJae

          from Indiana

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Para Driver DI Preamp Pedal V2:

I use this pedal exclusively to run all my piezo sounds. My piezo signal goes through this and then straight to the board. The EQ is quite powerful and the mids can be shaped radically. The blend feature is great, sort of a pseudo fx return. I use this pedal to supplement an already great sounding piezo and have since stopped taking acoustic guitars to my gigs. This combination sounds better than any AC Sim. I have every heard. This pedal stays on all night during my gigs, I run it off phantom power and have never had any problems. Great sounding pedal.

Pair with your distortion for maximum results

          By Necrocenturion

          from Bloomington, MN

Comments about Tech 21 SansAmp Para Driver DI Preamp Pedal V2:

I use this Tech 21 Sansamp "Para Driver" pedal with a Boss Metal Zone on my practice amps (Roland Cube 15 and Peavey Studio Chorus 210). Perfect to customize your sound. Adds some thick brutality to your distortion. The Mid freq knob is key and a bonus compared to the Tech 21 Sansamp "Bass driver". I also use a rack version of the "Para driver" called the Tech 21 Sansamp "RPM" on my live gear (Peavey JSX halfstack w/ Noise Gate and Aphex Aural Exciter). Adds power and shaping to my halfstack. Also for bass, use the "Para Driver" and "Bass driver" together to take it to maximum depths. Very brutal and a "must have" for Extreme metal guitarists/bassists.
