I have owned this amp for years and the sound seems to be getting better with age. This amp and speaker have a loose bottom that some adjust for this with the EQ. It is impressive to have two channels in an amp this size (three if you count the boost). It is super portable and rather loud compared to it's size. Sounds great at low vol or wide open. Some feel that a 15 watt amp like this is just a pratice amp but this amp is great for giging in small clubs. All I can tell you is I'm continueing to enjoy this amp and if it broke tomorrow, I'm looking for another one. Good job Traynor

The good: the wine red version of this amp is simply gorgeous to look at. And nice features like channel switching and effects loop, which 15-watt competitors lacked. The bad: Overall tone is flat and lifeless. Overdrive channel produces un-harmonic and buzzy tones. Other users recommend changing tubes and/or speaker. I don't think one should have to change the tubes on a new amp to get a good tone. I had high hopes for this amp but decided it had to be returned.

This is a killer amp

I purchased this a few weeks ago. I wish I had bought it long ago. This thing is amazing! I can tweak my guitar to get some of the best sounds I have ever had. I bought this to play in a rock band. It has not trouble rising above it all. The chime quality is wonderful. The bass and even the Mids are also fantastic. I have it hooked to an extension speaker that is in a Roland amp and it really widens and makes the sound so full. Great amp.

Traynor 20 WR

This trynor is a must have in any guitar players assortment of amps and axes. The tone is awesome, the power kicks a** but you could play slow blues or a soulful Sade song with her too. It sings like no tomorrow and if you got the tweed tolex the look can't be beat either. Remeber to use the second channel if you got a powerful guitar, or any thing really with hot pickups. I just got a RD reissue and those dirty fingers are the most powerful humbuckers this old hippie ever heard. At first I was only using channel 1 and it did get a little too muddy for my taste too easily. Channel 2 on the other hand seems to give you more control over the sound, or the power of the sound. Awesome amp, really just fabulous. Bryan

Great recording and practice amp!

By FusionThang

See all my reviews

First off, I play jazz and fusion. I'm not looking for a lot of distortion. Just warmth and texture in an amp. After lugging my unbelievably heavy Boogie Mk. to jams and rehearsals, I decided I needed something lighter to practice with. I looked at the Blues Juniors, but I have had back luck with them in the past with rattles and hums (hmmm, good cd title...). Anyway, I did some research and kept reading good things about these amps. I was not disappointed. Great tone, very warm. I use the channel 1 mainly as a boost with slight amounts of gain, as it is pretty harsh. However, channel 2 is beautiful! This amp has made me play more, it's that good. I did put JJ tubes in it as I had read others do, and I'll have to admit, it did sound better. And as to the claims of "quiet" operation...well, it's not bad but it sure has a little hum in the background. Not bad though. I love this amp. I've already started recording with it. If the club is the right size, I'll be gigging with it too. I love the Boogie and its headroom, but this amp has got a certain character that is infectious. You can't go wrong with this amp!

this combo has some of the best clean tones for any application; jazz, blues, or rock, and sweeter distortion than i've heard on any marshall. buy this amp or you're missing out, big time.

Found It

I have had Fender HotRod Deluxe ( I did like it but it blew my ears off), Blues Jr (A little too brittle),Randall (little flat), Line 6 30W (too digital), and several marshalls.... I like the sound of David Gilmour and Mark Knopfler...I just couldn't find the right one... until this baby... I love it...and am so very happy with it... I was surprised to find a standby switch on it.... I don't use the lead channel 1 much but when I got it I wasn't expecting it to sound any better than the blues jr.. Wrong.. it is way sweeter... It does record nice.. The red looks more like a piece of fine furniture... I don't like the way it looks on line but in person it humbles me. Great Job Traynor... I'll keep this for a long time. The box was in BAD shape when I got it but flawless in my Home.

Warm up!

By Telemonade

from Indianapolis, IN

This is a great little amp. Plenty of punch and midrange, especially with the mids cranked. When backed down, it can do a decent job of mimicking a fender-style scooped amp. When I first plugged into this amp, I was not sold. It was muddy and grainy. I forgot one major rule to tube amps- LET IT WARM UP. After the tubes start cooking a little bit, the depth comes in. It is a very solid and versatile amp. One thing that comes to mind is the jack of all trades, master of none. You can play tons of different genres with this amp, but it doesn't perfect any genre in my opinion. If this is your first tube amp, I say go for it. If you want an amp that isn't a fender copy, vox copy, marshall copy etc, go for it. Don't be afraid to really fine tune the EQ. And also don't be afraid to stick a tube screamer in front of it!

Sold my Pro Junior and Vintage Princeton and had money left over after the traynoe purchase. This amplifier is the best small combo for around $500. No 60 cycle hum and great tone.

Good-by foot pedals

By Stevie B-5NWRU

from Morro Bay, CA

As a professional guitar player I was always looking for that certain sound. You know, the sound that hits the heart of the audiance. combinations of pedals and A/B or solid state amps always fell short. After looking at comparable Orange, Mesa Boogie and vintage Marshall, I stumbled on the Traynor 15watt class A powered amp. Nothing sounds better, for the straight ahead rock-n-roll that I play. This is a gem. The compitition that sounds virtually the same, (Orange and Boogie), are all most twice the price and at first I was scepticle. After using it for 1 week, my stage space has increased because I was able to get rid of all the pedals I had used for years trying to get this sound. Don't be fooled by the price, or the wattage. This Class A beauty is worth a look.

Good Piece

By TeleBoy

from Boody, IL

See all my reviews

While I don't own this amp, I had the priviedge of recording with it down at Greenville College last year, and let me tell you- this amp is simply awesome! I recorded with a Telecaster- a standard with a matching Wine Red finish. The overdrive is beautiful- it reminded me of heavily overdriven U2, or some Jimmy Eat World. On the flipside, the clean channel is so warm- it's just beautiful- it reminds me of the Rolling Stones. If you're a metalhead, or into Emo or Hardcore music, you'll have to get a pedal, or another amp. Overall, this amp is the best sounding/ looking amp for the price. If you're looking at Oranges and Mesa's, like I used to, quit. Just buy this piece!

GREAT AMP

Ask me a question

Traynor makes some of the best tube amps in the world and this is no exception. My only regret is they took out the Celestion Greendak and put in a celestion sound...hence the less tham perfect markings. If you can get your hans on one on these with a greenback you will have the ULTIMATE tube amp. With a celestion 30 you've got a really great amp.

Incredible!!

By Joey-a-qyN

from Prince Edward Island, Canada

I just purchased this after doing a lot of research on the web as well as trying them all out. I thought I'd end up with the YCV40WR as I figured 40 watts would be better than 15 Watts. Well, there is HUGE difference in having the Class "A" 15 watts. Punchier, Louder, and way more tones. No breaking up in sound in either channel. It looks great. Sounds great and the price is incredible. The footswitch is included in the price too.

Boutique amp imposter

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This little gem sounds marvelous. Everything from clean jazzy tones, though not Fender-clean, to pre-amp overdrive crunch. Looks pretty snazzy too, and is the best out ther among the competetion (Fender Blues Jr, Crate V-series, etc.). Only complaint is an annoying buzz or rattle that has developed when the bass and/or volume are high. Sounds especially good with single coils. I play a tele and an Epi SG.

Trouble with Traynor

By Bluedog

from Indianapolis

I bought one of these looking for a small tube amp for recording and small rooms. When it arrived it sounded horrible. Nothing helped. I had to ship it back to Traynor and it was six weeks before I got it back. It sounds better now, but if you are looking for an amp with a boutique sound, this isn't it. It sounds like a $300 solid state amp. A few mods by a qualified tech and it could sound great. The design people at Traynor missed the mark.

Very nice tube tone on the clean channel. Great price for a two-channel 15W tube amp. Nice looking amp, always gets lots of comments. Envy from the Blues Jr. crowd.
