Comments about Two Rock TRSP22HD Studio Pro 22W Tube Guitar Amp Head:
Granted, I am a huge John Mayer fan, so my introduction to Two Rock dates back many years ago. It was always the "unattainable" boutique brand that I would and could never own. When Two Rock released the Studio Pro series, I realized I could finally afford to own one. Overall, this amp has the best combination of tone, features, and build quality that anyone could ever ask for. The contour knob and pickup loading features are very nifty and subtle ways to take your tone over the top, and the addition of a second master volume on the back of the amp was the icing on the cake. And the tone...oh the tone!!!
I'm going to keep this short because I could seriously talk about this all day:
1. The Tone: Best clean I've ever heard. Imagine a Fender clean with a little more oomph and body. Very pristine, yet woody at the same time. The controls all do something (imagine that concept) and even the slightest turn of a knob can give the amp a new character. Very easy to dial in John Mayer like tones, but also easy to create a tone all your own. For the record, there is a chime to this amp that sounds absolutely heavenly at gig volumes. Don't judge this amp based on bedroom levels, you HAVE to open it up and play it at a decent volume to appreciate it. IMO, the "gain" knob should be called saturation...there is not a lot of gain in this amp, but it has more clean headroom than I'll ever need!
2. The quality: Really short here, THE BEST
3. The Features: Everything does something and you can actually hear the difference when you turn the knobs. Contour is genius and such a lifesaver depending on your surroundings, and pickup loading basically takes the unwanted icepicky edge off your single coils at loud volumes.
TAKES PEDALS better than any amp I've played. It just soaks them up.
Everything seems incredibly sturdy on this amp. Not too heavy, not too light. Seems to be everything you would expect out of a boutique amp.
Ok, so my only low mark comes on the value. Right now I am at 8 because while it is expensive, you get a heckuva lot of amp here. But, the price is still steep considering what you get with other big name/boutique brands. Expensive and worth it, but I wouldn't consider this a "value."
