OVERVIEW

Two thrilling effects in one.

The VHT Melo-Verb is a pedal recreation of the fabled tremolo and reverb effects that were first introduced as built-in amplifier features in the ˜60s. The two effects sections are completely independent, with separate true-bypass switching.

Tremolo
The all-analog Tremolo section features classic Speed and Intensity controls, and for additional flexibility, it also has modern Shape and Level controls. The Shape control adjusts the tremolo character - everything from retro floating undulations to modern square-cornered chop. When the Tremolo is engaged, the Level control can be set for added boost to help the effect stand-out more in the mix. With the Depth control turned down, the Tremolo section can also serve as a clean boost pedal, with up to 9dB of boost from the Level control - it's like getting a clean boost pedal for free.

Reverb
The Reverb section replicates the classic built-in tube-driven spring reverb tone, and takes it one step further with the addition of Tone and Mix controls, which were found on the most coveted outboard ˜60s reverb units. The reverb tones range from soft, warm and round to bright splashy "tile wall spatter."

Soulful Synergy
Separately, these two effects provide a wide range of classic and modern tones - together they're an unbeatable value.

Comments about VHT Melo-Verb Guitar Effects Pedal:

I bought the Melo-Verb to go in the effects loop on my VHT Special 6 Ultra. It does its job, kind of low key. It is not a tube/spring reverb. But its ok.

Comments about VHT Melo-Verb Guitar Effects Pedal:

I was really looking forward to trying this pedal out as I own several other VHT products (Special 6, 12/20, V-Drive, and open-back cabinet) and they are all fantastic. I ended up being rather disappointed with this pedal.

First, for some reason mine hummed really loudly when I plugged it in to my main pedal board, fortunately, I put it in line with my practice amp and the hum quit so I could at least try it out...not sure what was going on there. Also, when I tried to plug my 9v adapter into the pedal it would just pop out. Again, I tried a different 9V adapter with a different style of plug and got it to work but I wasn't impressed. Keep in mind that there is no 9V battery connection in this pedal so you have to run it with an external power source.

Reverb: is ok, but it doesn't get very 'extreme'. I could get some nice subtle reverb tones out of it and the tonal variety is nice but if you want that 'drenched in a sea of reverb' kind of sound, you're not going to get it here. I actually liked the reverb but the thing that killed it for me was it would occasionally sound like more of a slapback echo instead of reverb...it would change back and forth between the reverb sound and this slapback sound which I found annoying. By comparison, a cheap, plastic, reverb pedal that I had lying around sounded almost as good as this and had a lot more range and sounds.

Tremolo: sounds nice, but again, you can't get anything really crazy out of it. I found that to get a nice sound, I had to have the intensity control nearly maxed. The shape control has a reasonably decent range and the level control is awesome as you can use it to bump up the volume of the effect when it's engaged but overall, when the tremolo effect was on, I found it to be very noisy and hissy. If you want subtle tremolo effects for your 1950's love song, then this may do but if you're looking for that 'How Soon is Now' kind of tremolo effect, you won't find it here.

I would have kept it and played with it a bit more but the slap-backy reverb killed it for me which is a shame because I really wanted to like it. It is a nice, smallish size and seems to be well built. The other thing I wasn't real hot on was that the on/off buttons are very close to the knobs (and each other) so that if you're playing live and not really watching what you're doing, it would probably be easy to bump the settings with your toe while switching on or off or even accidentally switch both effects on or off at the same time.
