Comments about Visual Sound GarageTone Series Drivetrain Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

It's amazing that the four suggested settings can be so spot-on for the type of sound you need: Big Boosdt, Straight Up, Steel String, Power Drive. Of course, it's easy to dial in the drive and distortion you want and it keeps up with pick strikes as well.

Comments about Visual Sound GarageTone Series Drivetrain Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have been using this pedal for about 8 months. Had a Boss Turbo overdrive prior..it is still on my board but has been bumped to #2 position because it can be very dirty and naughty. What I like about the GT is the transparency...it really is sweet and open...like the other reviews have said it does not squash your tone. You can get it dirty enough...but it does not saturate like the Boss or a tube scream...get pedal...bought this one for my daughters BF...have not gotten his report

Comments about Visual Sound GarageTone Series Drivetrain Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is my fourth Visual Sound Pedal and it fits the bill perfectly to get the sound I was going for and then some. I started trying out the Visual Sound V2 Line with the VS Double Trouble and thought that it was the second coming of ODs until I tried the Open Road. The two together were great for everything from blues and classic rock to an 80's metal type sound. The only sound that was evading me was a very light, warm breakup with just a bit of top end bite that could turn into a moderate drive tone with a more agressive pick attack. The Double Trouble has a couple of sweet spots that are close but I could never get it bright enough without it sounding harsh. The Open Road got closer but it was almost too responive to pick attack in a way and it was difficult to eq out the bass frequncies to get the sound I was after. I really like both of the V2 pedals that I own and I was also very impressed with the Garagetone Oilcan Phaser so I decided to give the Drivetrain a shot. Man it just nails the tone I was looking for but couldn't get with my other two VS ODs or even my other more expensive pedals and multi FX units. Having a bass knob gives you more contol over the low end than the Open Road and the drive knob is less sensitive and has a more gradual taper than the Double Trouble. It has plenty of mids without getting muddy and the highs add bite without sounding harsh and fizzy. It's not as beefy sounding as the Open Road whitch is still my favorite overall OD at the moment but it can do things that the Open Road can't. I like the Drivetrain so much now that it has taken the place of my Doulbe Trouble on my board becasue it stacks well with all my pedals including my Tonewicker Big Muf* wich is rather finicky and it is easier to make changes to it on the fly without having to mess around with finding the "sweet spot" on the drive control. The knobs on the drivetrain are also easier to read than the ones on the Double Trouble and the pots on the Drivetrain are quiet and responsive unlike the Double Trouble which had scratchy pots out of the box. I also takes up much less room on my board. I'm not knocking the Double Trouble which is a great stand-alone blues/rock drive with the right amp but the Drivetrain sounds as good with the Open Road as the Double Trouble, even better with the Tonewicker Big Muf* and does a fantastic clean boost. I have to say that I am as impressed with the Visual Sound's Garagetone budget line pedals as I am with their V2 line pedals. Great bang for your buck. Keep 'em comin' Bob!

Comments about Visual Sound GarageTone Series Drivetrain Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

You will not find a better overdrive in this price range anywhere! This overdrive does transparent boost, overdrive with mid hump, treble boost, to a pretty decent amount of gain.

Having a separate bass and treble control helps it attack well with other dirt boxes. It stacks very well with my Wampler Euphoria.

Visual Sound made a great move reissuing the Drivetrain II.

Comments about Visual Sound GarageTone Series Drivetrain Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I wanted a clean boost with the option to add distortion = this thing does both. I already own a Tube Screamer and my 57 Tweed already has a ton of mid range. I wanted something that would allow me to add some clean boost and maybe even some distortion if needed. I also like that it has a treble and bass knob. With the drive turned to 0 and the bass and treble at noon I can get nice clean distortion. There is also the added benefit that when it's on I get some nice sustain, better harmonics, and a thicker sound. This does more than I expected at a killer price. Visual Sound is a great company and the Garagetone series makes it so affordable how can you not buy their effects? I liked this one so much I want more!!

Clean and warm transparent overdrive with lots of extra tone control at a great price

Comments about Visual Sound GarageTone Series Drivetrain Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

Its a keeper for sure. A really good pedal that offers more than the usual TS808 tone. It is designed well with lots of sensible plannign and works wonderfully as a boost, drive, EQ or preamp.
I love this pedal for its dual dedicated bass and treble controls; I've even used it as a "treble booster" by cutting out the bass and maxing out the drive and treble knobs--this sounds very early zeppelin. The drive itself is warm and transparent; I find it reminescent of the old colorsound powerboost pedal and its great for just such warm clean gilmouresque tones. It has a lot of volume when you want it, but its also more signal than noise even with the drive up high because its buffered like all Visual sound pedals. The knobs are nice and responsive and the box is sturdy but also intelligently sized to maximize your pedal board's capacity. Its a cool color,too--a sort of irridescent dark green that changes with the lighting.
The pedal has great sound. Its clean, so no excess noise, but also warm and attack sensitive as well. I do not have any experience with the original "drivetrain" pedal by reverend but I understand that it does not sound a lot like its namesake. It is not tube screamerish either really. It plays like a dream, is intuitive in its design, and works great as a preamp, too. The dual knob design also makes it something of an equalizer of sorts. Its overdrive form and function at its best in quality and price really.
For the price its an amazing pedal, so versatile and useful. It is also better quality than I expected it to be for this price and the signal is so clean of all but the warm drive that you desire.

                Garagetone Drivetrain

Comments about Visual Sound GarageTone Series Drivetrain Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I tried out the Drivetrain after reading a review in Guitar Player magazine. They gave it high recommendations with no concerns. I play a Gibson LP and a Fender Telecaster through a 1967 Fender Vibrochamp, and this pedal sounds great. Before purchasing, I compared it to several other OD pedals, including a Tubescreamer (TS9). The TS9 sounded a little bit brighter, and felt better constructed. The Drivetrain doesn't feel as 'solid' however I am not hard on my gear, and it does feel solid enough to last for years. The knobs seem a bit looser than the TS9, and sounds deeper or 'dirtier' however with both a bass and treble dial, it is easy to get any sound you want. Definately no problem getting the punch I am looking for. I am not a top quality guitar player and do not have the money for high end pedals, but I do want top quality sound. This pedal nails the sound I am looking for, and is half the price of the TS9. I have never played this through a solid state amp, so I have no opinion how it would sound. Played though a tube amp, it sounds excellent. If my Drivetrain was lost or stolen I would definately buy it again without looking around any further this time.

                Drivetrain Revisited

Comments about Visual Sound GarageTone Series Drivetrain Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I was very interested to hear & see for myself both how the new Drivetrain was built & how it sounded. Musician's Friend got me the pedal in record time, & I promptly plugged it in with my pedalboard & AB'd it with the 3 other OD pedals I have currently in use. My opinion: VERY cool tones! I'm a little chagrined that the Drivetrain sounds as good as or better than other pedals that I have paid much more for. I even considered replacing a special order boutique OD pedal with the Drivetrain...ultimately deciding to use them both. The midrange "hump" of the normal Tube Screamer-type circuit sounds "muddy" to me. The Drivetrain is clear & articulate; I love having both a treble & bass control. As to the feel of the knobs: sure, I've felt pots with more resistance, but I also have plenty of guitars & pedals that feel just like this. I rarely buy a pedal I don't play & listen to first, but in this case, I've found a keeper. This is a great pedal with delicious overdrive tones.

                Not bad, but not great...

Comments about Visual Sound GarageTone Series Drivetrain Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I special ordered this through Guitar Center. I had used a friend's original Reverend Drivetrain pedal and liked it. When I found out this was being made by Visual Sound and saw the price tag, I thought I'd grab one. The pedal sounds good, but it's not the same as the original Drivetrain pedals. And overall, it's just not what I'm really going for. The thing that I found to be really poor was the workmanship/quality. At first glance, with the solid metal casing, I thought it would be a beast. But, the knobs feel cheap, as do the pots when you turn them. The screws holding the unit together are weak, and the overall feel is that it won't really stand up against much abuse. You would really have to baby it. But I suppose that should be expected with this price tag. Overall, not a bad pedal. Decent tone. No extra noise, no popping when engaging/disengaging. Just not "great" and not sure it won't fall apart or fail on me.
