OVERVIEW

Dual overdrives in one pedal.

The Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde Ultimate Overdrive is two separate overdrives in one pedal, each with separate controls, each with its own personality. And they can be used separately or blended together. The first half reproduces the sound of the original TS808 Tube Screamer, providing depth and smooth sustain. The Hyde part is a heavier overdrive with more bottom and is extremely versatile. Use its EQ to scoop out the midrange for a wide range of tones and a Sharp/Blunt switch to go from compressed to very bright. The sonic possibilities are endless.

This pedal is very sweet. I compared it side by side to a collection of boss pedals including, metal zone and ds2 turbo. I am very pleased to say that this pedal wiped the floor with them. Features: it's two pedals in one jekyll which is good for blues and lighter things but also has a nice crunch to it. and the hyde which does preety much anything but is particularly awsome for metal and hard classic rock(guns n roses). The jekyll side has a bass boost switch which is good for fattening up your tone. The hyde side has a sharp/blunt switch which goes from nirvana buzz to black sabbath bass and everything in between. Quality: Good quality, my only concern it than some of the paint off the edged of mine is chipping of,but not alot of it and i could use touch up paint if i really cared. the service is good. i had to call once about my pedal mouth functioning which turned out to be a dead battery.lol i replaced a weak one with another weak one. Value: great value. period. if you want real tone u'll get this.Overall: This pedal sounds amazing. I have compared it to a friends boss metal zone and a boss ds2 turbo distortion. and the tone is not only broader but better quality. the boss's tone was thin and the jekyll and hydes was very rich and creamy even at the metal settings it was just better tone. I can't help saying that the sound bites do not do this pedal any justice hear it for u'r self and u'll know what i'm talking about.

The thing with this pedal is if you're using it with a tube amp, at even moderately high levels, you're gonna get a lot of squealling. This, however, is not your average feedback. It shrieks when the Hyde(red) drive is selected unless the volume is below 12 o' clock and the Drive is below 2 o' clock. Then, of course, there is the fat price tag. I suggest going for the MRX double shot instead if you want a pedal like this. But when it isn't shrieking and when I'm not to depressed about the dent in my wallet, I must admit you do get some pretty good tones out of this pedal. But don't buy it unless you plan on playing quietly and are rich.

    Best overdrive.......period

    By Phillip Palmer

    from Lena, MS

Much more than I expected. Anything from blues to metal. Very high quality case and switches. I've tried them all, at least fifteen different distortion/overdrives and nothing compares to this. You can take a $99.00 practice amp and sound like a full Marshall stack or Mesa Boogie. You get two pedals in one here. For the price, it's a steal. It's worth much more. Thanks Visual Sound for making the pedal I've always wanted but never could find.

    This thing is a beast!!!

    By GuitarCrazy987

This machine is wicked. I've also got an RP50, and the J&H blows it out of the water. It's built tough too. It could survive a nuclear bomb! I love it. If you are considering getting it, get it! You can adjust it to whatever style of music you play too.

    Good Pedal

I like this pedal...I would like it more if it didn't cut out on me and act all stupid. It has good tones, and is perfect in the studio (when it's not cutting out on me). I have it in my collection and will not let it go. I personally have the silver version, and if the new one is supposed to be better than go ahead and trust it. It's got great tone.

You have to buy this pedal

    By Sumner

This is by far the best pedal I have ever/will ever own. I have dropped it many times. It even fell from a 10 foot high stage(that sucked)and it has held up pretty good, except the Jekyll side quit working after the drop from the stage (but what wouldn't quit after falling that far). Luckily, I had bought the insurance on it (less than $10) and Musician's Friend has sent me a new one for free. They even paid to have me send it back to them. So as long as you don't drop it off a tall stage, you'll have amazing and very versatile tone with very heavy distortion/overdrive with endless possibilities.

    Jekyll & Hyde Rocks

    By th3str0k35

The Jekyll & Hyde is the best overdrive pedal ever. It gives every sound I please and it's a two in one pedal. I love the low distortion given off the clean channel. This is one of the best pedals ever made.

    Awesome Pedal

    By Cone

    from LA

This pedal is amazing. Theres tons of different distortions and even more combinations. I use three tones: 1)a deep bassy distortion, 2)a bluesy overdrive, and 3)a full-blown metal distortion. The pedal can also be used as a distortion/boost pedal. Anyone who dislikes this pedal is nuts.

    close to perfect...

    By kevin-GkQmJ

    from pennsylvania

This pedal is awesome! I love the seperate overdrive and distortion, unlike some pedals that only give you one sound. You can get sounds andywhere from a softer blues kinda thing to a hard rock Guns N' Roses sound. I have a Les Paul and a single coil Strat, and this thing sounds GREAT!! the only thing I have to say is that if you want heavy metal on it you need a humbucking guitar, or just add an EQ pedal. Otherwise this pedal is perfect!!!!! I definetely recommend it!

    So I changed my mind...

OK, so I'm the guy who wrote a review on this pedal about a year ago (look back a few reviews), that had the Jekyll/Hyde literally start smoking, and had to return it. In the meantime, tried Boss, Maxon and Greg Kochs DGTM pedal. Two other guys I play with talked me in to trying one more time so I did (I figure you can always return it). I'm glad I did, sounds awesome. I can barely tell the OD side from my Ibanez Tube Screamer.I recommend that you always have the bass boost on on the OD side, and the sharp/blunt switch set to blunt, unless you're not in to things like intact ear drums. Try it with Fender Texas Special pickups - it'll knock you on your can! This thing will feed back easier than other pedals though.
