OVERVIEW

Fat, grinding tone & a less dominant midrange.

If you're looking for an open-sounding, amp-like overdrive with less dominant midrange, the V2 Open Road guitar pedal from Visual Sound is perfect for you. Finally, here's an overdrive pedal that delivers grind and girth. The Open Road has clear low end, sparkling highs, and none of the midrange hump found in most other boxes. Play a 6-string chord and all the notes ring through. Play a single note line and it sizzles, punch a power chord and it grinds.

The Open Road effects pedal features a very interactive tone circuit, effecting not only high-end roll-off, but gain structure as well. At any setting, at any volume, the V2 Open Road produces organic amp-like tones that might cause you to leave it on all the time.

FEATURES
  • Fat, grinding tone
  • Less dominant midrange
  • Organic amp-like tone

I've been a huge fan of Visual Sound for awhile now (currently own a Jekyll & Hyde, Visual Volume, and chopper tremolo). I've always loved my Jekyll & Hyde, but the overdrive side is too muddy for chord work, so i picked up this guy after several months of reading every review i could find, watching videos and trying it out in-store.

This pedal absolutely rocks! It gave me the exact sound i was looking for almost immediately when i plugged it in. It has clarity for chord-work, but still packs a serious punch when you crank the gain knob. Two of the coolest things about this pedal are: 1) it cleans up wonderfully with your volume knob, unlike other overdrive's that stay muddy, and 2) when you crank the tone, it actually acts as a 2nd gain stage. This pedal is not leaving my board anytime soon, and now using the J&H as a 2 stage solo-booster, i've got all my grounds covered!
easy controls to use, 3 knobs, indestrucable casing, and a switch that will last forever.
Visual Sound doesn't take short-cuts with their work, and this pedal is no exception. Even in the rare case that something does go wrong, they have one of the best customer service departments in the world.
There are other overdrives that TRY to do what this one does at up to 2 or sometimes 3 times the price. This pedal is a steal for $120, and even more so if you find one used

I don't know, I'm not going to give the Open Road a 'Glowing' review. It's OK at best. Great quality components, but falls short soundwise. Nothing Organic about it's sound at all, just seems to get louder or softer, no real dynamic range. Think I'll switch to a JHS Morning Glory or a Timmy, money better spent.

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Open Road Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Open Road is a perfect fit for my needs and will be on my board for along time to come. Can be dialed up anywhere where light organic overdrive to very saturated distortion.

Most useful tone knob of any OD I own...really changes how the guitars tone is expressed. When engaged the Open Road rounds out the signal without coloring the sound, sometimes I have to look down to make sure it's on.

Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Open Road Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is NOT a warmed over T.S. If you want a more "open" sounding overdrive that wont kill you with mids this is the ticket.A lot happens when you turn the tone knob past 7-it really clears out the mids, which does wonders for humbuckers.Yes it has a pronounced low end but it sounds awesome, almost like a second channel(If your platform is clean). Not kidding. This pedal is a winner and it is staying on my board -right after the TS-9
.........P.S. the drive knob really starts to kick after 1:00.

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Open Road Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I can not speak highly enough about this pedal and Visual Sound, in general. I have never been let down buy the quality of their products and their customer service. This pedal sounds great! If you are bored with the midrangey 808 clones, you should definitely give this a try. Great, deep lows and sparkling clean highs. I like to play with a lot of open chords and with this pedal, I can crank the drive up and play the notes of an open C chord, and you can hear the notes clearly. I have the VS Rt. 808 overdrive also and you can blend the two to create some awesome tones. Super versatile.

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Open Road Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've been successfully using the Visual Sound Open Road pedal for about two years. I used to use a Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde, and have in the past owned overdrive pedals from Fulltone, Lovepedal, the obligatory Tube Screamer, and others. The Open Road is the only overdrive pedal I currently own, and I was so pleased with it I bought a second one so I can have two available overdrive settings.

Simply put, the Open Road does exactly what it claims… it gives you a good overdriven sound like a Tube Screamer without the mid-range "hump" and associated tone shaping that the Tube Screamer, and many other overdrive pedals, often produce. The first time I heard it, it was a revelation. You just don't realize how much tone is often lost or changed when you kick these pedals on. The Open Road allows me to keep much closer to the sound of my amp with no pedal, which is what I want. Plus it has a super range of overdrive tones available, plenty for what I need. No knock on any other pedal if you like the sound it gives you, but for me the Open Road is the solution.

I will say I had a problem with the second pedal I bought when the motherboard died. I called Visual Sound, they gave me a return number, and in two weeks I had it back with a brand new board in it. They couldn't have been nicer and it gives me confidence that they will stand behind their products.

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Open Road Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:

Ok, so I did a ton of research before buying this, and turns out it was a GREAT decision. The problem I have had with so many pedals is that they what i feel to be "one-trick ponies" and just not as versatile as I want them to be. Also, as a tone nut, I find that lots of the boss pedals (just to name one, not to knock them, I do have a few) just sound so 1 dimensional.
So this sucker knocks it outta the park. Unlike an 808-type pedal, the mids are cut down. that means that chords actually ring through clear, it just sounds less muddy (depends on what you want) that being said, I can get way fuzzy sounds with this, IT BITES HARD when you crank the Drive. Turn down the Tone, and you can get Black Keyes type sounds, I do out of my 2012 Amer. Strat, I'm blown away. Can be used easily as a clean boost, or to give a little grit for mostly clean sounds. This may be the single most useful pedal I have.

This is the best pedal I've ever used. I've had it now for over 3 weeks. It does exactly as it claims-overdrives your amp w/out losing the sound/vibe of your amp in the process. Great for blues, which is what I play mainly. I've been able to nail A
lbert King's tone through my Princeton Reverb Reissue. I can't recommend this pedal highly enough. I don't usually write reviews, but this pedal knocked me out.

This is the first overdrive pedal that I was excited about the first time I've tried it. There are great overdrives out there and I love a lot of them but this is the first one that made me smile the first time I plugged it in. I don't want to mess with my tone because its great and this just adds a little more beauty.

This overdrive is so organic, amp-like, and versatile, that this could substitute an overdrive channel on one's amp without a doubt. With the appropriate settings, this pedal offers anything from a clean boost to a gritty rock distortion. This will not give you "metal" on its own, but it would do a great job at pushing a distorted amp to metal saturation, without the midrange of a tubescreamer. The switch is smooth and quiet, which takes some getting used to if you like to hear/feel a "click!" The only thing that keeps this pedal from being the perfect overdrive is a mid-boost function. If that was added, tubescreamers would be no more.
