OVERVIEW

Revved up overdrive and compression with lots of options.

The Visual Sound Route 66 multi-effects pedal gives you the great tone guitarists have come to love, plus an added noise reduction system that gives you that quiet ride you've always wanted. Classic compression combined with classic overdrive--these two effects sound great on their own, but combine them, as the Route 66 pedal has, and get the ultimate combination in a single pedal pedal.

The V2 Route 66 pedal features redesigned noise reduction on the compressor channel, and additional low-drive range on the overdrive channel. The great-sounding overdrive channel is modeled after the sound of the original Tube Screamer, but it also has a bass boost switch. The compressor can be set for classic squash or clean boost with the unique preamp stage and gain knob. This allows for a truckload of clean gain. The compressor even has its own tone control. The 2 effects can be used independently or combined to complement one another.

In 1999, Visual Sound made the statement "Our Route 66 is sure to become as legendary as its namesake." With countless great guitarists using it ever since, the Route 66 pedal from Visual Sound has become just that, a legend!

The V2RT66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal features a diecast aluminum housing, ultra-reliable 10 million cycle switching, easy battery access and circuit protection from AC adapters. Wide and sturdy stomp switches designed by Bob Weil himself. And a redesigned, noise-free experience. This version of the Route 66 pedal has raised the bar for years to come.

First, I don't know how anyone could say thhat this thing isn't built like a tank or otherwise imply that the build quality is anything other than first-rate. I've been using my V2 Rt 66 since it was released and it's been perfectly solid for over a year, through many, many gigs & rehearsals and with countless stomps.I leave the compressor on almost all the time - great for funk & reggae rhythm work, and with my strat it's just magical for boosting solos. I keep the comp level at about 12noon, and it doesn't squash the dynamics to much, and I control my volume from the guitar.I generally use a Bad Monkey or Barber Ltd for my dirty rhythm work, and I have the OD side of the 66 set up for leads. Either my itself or with the comp it sounds HUGE. There's a ton of gain available, and tonally it is much more versatile than a standard TS circuit due to the bass boost - which I leave on.This was my first VS pedal, but won't be my last, as I'm planning to add an H20 at some point. An excellent product, built like a tank, and the proprietary stomp switches are the best. I wish all my pedals had them.

The pedal is versatile and extremely well built. Both the overdrive & compression effects are awesome, however, the pedal feedbacks when your not strumming your instrument. The feedback is so loud I can't use the pedal when performing on stage. If it weren't for the feedback I would keep the pedal. The effects and options of each effect are terrific and I would love the pedal if it weren't for the feedback. I can only assume that the feedback is due to the fact that the pedal is not a true bypass. I'm truly disappointed. VS states that the pedal is equipped with sound reduction however it doesn't seem to make a difference. Unfortunately, I have returned the pedal and have replaced it with a Red Witch Compression Pedal and a Dr J Crystal Green Overdrive Pedal. They are both terrific replacements.

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Series V2RT66 Route 66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I really like this pedal. I use compression of some kind about 99% of the time when I play, and compression is an effect I think you have to be sort of picky about, because a bad sounding compressor can suck the life out of your tone. To me a good compressor is one that you can forget is on, and just brings out detail and increases sustain. This one does that really well, with both single coil, humbucker, and acoustic guitar pickups. I've even ran a condenser mic/pre amp though it to record an acoustic guitar, and it worked great.

The overdrive is very nice too, very warm and responsive to playing dynamics and volume/tone controls. The tone knob works very much as a mid contour, and has a really wide sweep. If you're looking for a heavy/high gain sounds this probably isn't what you're looking for, but it's a great pedal for creamy, sustaining overdrive, or crunchy broken up chord work, and things in that ball park.

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Series V2RT66 Route 66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

This is a very nice product, it is exactly what i was looking for.

        Overdrive is sensitive to dynamics;

if I pick guitar strings gently, the sound is clean.

if I pick stronger it roars like a valve amplifier.

If you add compressor to it, the roar becomes more present, but dynamics will be less present.

I plug this pedal into Fender Princetone Rever 65 Reissue amp

This combination wil replace my Marshall TSL 100 triple super lead

NOTE: The product might not be suitable for musicians that use heavy distortion

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Series V2RT66 Route 66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

In general, I love companies like Visual Sound who produce quality, well thought out, built-like-a-tank gear. Their customer support is excellent also. But back to the pedal... i bought this mainly for the compressor and the buffer system that most Visual Sound pedals have. The compressor is super transparent and highly response to different pick attack and playing styles. It also works great as a boost for solos. The Overdrive is nice and organic - some times a little mid-rangy but with some tweaking of the Tone dial (which has huge tonal range) you can get the tone you're after. The Gain also has huge range so the Overdrive also serves as a boost and can keep the tone relatively neutral. The only downside to this pedal as that it is on the larger side - Built amazingly solid but I'd prefer a half inch of each dimension. But, its the sound that matters and this pedal, like other Visual Sound pedals is awesome!

          Great Pedals!!

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Series V2RT66 Route 66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

Visual Sound really makes some great-sounding pedals. I replaced my Boss CS-3 Compressor with this pedal. No comparison, the Route 66 is the winner hands down. The compression side is simply amazing, especially with the added Tone control. This would work well as a great boost pedal for solos as well. The Overdrive is sweet too. It's great with and without the Bass Boost. I like it better then the good ol' mean green machine Tubescreamer (which I love, by the way). The only overdrive that I've used that I like better is the Visual Sound Open Road - Check that one out too! I really have nothing bad to say about their pedals. I wish they were a little smaller, but they are well worth giving up the extra real estate on the pedalboard.

          Visual Sound Route 66

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Series V2RT66 Route 66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I just redid my board with VS V2 pedals. I am getting used to the new abilities. I find these units really tonally better than a lot of other more expensive hype boxes. I did hear some noise and hiss but I realized it was my guitar. My kit guitar has straight out single coils, even shielded they produce hum and noise. BUT the tones these boxes do to a Strat are Hendrix and SRV heaven. My dual rail Strat is utterly quiet. Probably calls for a ISP Decimator in my loop to end the problem. The VS line shines with the best OD, DIST, COMP and Chorus you are going to hear. Do check out their shootout vids on YouTube really informative and honest. You have to hear the Route 66 with the Liquid Chorus they have, orgasmic...

OK So I bought a Route 66 V2 because a friend of mine's V1 sounded so good. Now I'm on my second one it's noisy beyond belief. The compression sounds like tissue paper. I'm just fed up with the poor QC at VS. Thanks MF for standing up to your return policy. Unfortunately the only ones benefitting are the UPS people

          Old Model Better

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Series V2RT66 Route 66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I have the old model of the route 66. I have played this one and let me tell you, the new version isn't that great. It is plastic. They really cheeped out the new model. If you want to buy this, go find the old model, it is more sturdy and will last you a long time. I got mine for less then this price. The compression is amazing, but the over drive is hard to find the right spot. If you want to get this, get the old model, it sounds better and will probably last longer. Take my word for it.

Great tone at an affordable price

Comments about Visual Sound V2 Series V2RT66 Route 66 Overdrive and Compression Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

This pedal is the best bang for the buck. It is a really great overdrive with an excellent compressor combined. I own a couple of tube amps, Marshall and Fender and it really improves both of them. I play an 80's strat, all original and a LP classic. If you take the time to tweak it you will not be disappointed. I have never been much of a pedal guy until now. Visual sound has hit the mark with this one.
