This amp has a perfect, wonderful sound for what I want to do with it (loud, raunchy rock and punk)--the distortion channel has fat, powerful, beautiful tube distortion, perfect for huge, thick chords (with every note of a chord ringing through cleanly at extremely high gain and volume) or lead playing. This channel is jaw-dropping; it sounds like God is playing guitar in the room. You'll never worry about this amp not being loud enough, or not perfectly articulating your songs, if you favor loud guitar-driven music. The clean channel is fine too; the extreme brightness of which it's capable isn't my cup of tea, but it can produce a perfectly decent thick, silky warm sound too. I'm using a Gibson SG Classic (with P-90 pickups) and an SG copy with humbuckers, and sending this head through a Behringer 4X12. Now the bad news: this amp (or at least mine) suffers from flimsy construction and use of substandard components. The guitar input on the front comes loose easily and can fall inside the amp; there's just a little plastic nut holding it on, instead of the big metal rings around the inputs on older, sturdier heads. Once it falls inside, it's an extreme hassle to get it back out. Superglue prevents this scenario, but what a horrid and indescribably annoying example of poor construction. But much worse, only three weeks or so after I bought this amp, and with no abuse on my part, the tubes blew up and had to be replaced at a cost of more than $100. The repairman described the tubes as shoddy, and replaced them with Sovteks; since then I haven't had any more trouble. So overall, it's a beautiful-sounding (and nice-looking) amp that might require an investment beyond its purchase price before it becomes reliable. I'm still glad I bought it, and it fulfills rock-god dreams when it works, but for the price the thing should be capable of time travel; it definitely shouldn't have tubes that blow up so easily or a shoddy input.

Got this head for Christmas, but not from MF. Turned it on for two minutes and had to shut it down due to horrible buzzing noise. Shoulda sent it back, but decided to take it to local repair shop. Figured I would get it back faster. That was seven weeks ago. Contacted Vox with no results. Shop says it needs a new backboard. Doesn't sound like I'm getting my amp back anytime soon.

I like it.

I like this amp. It works very well for rock & roll music. Has the classic spanky, chimey Vox sound which is cool. Channel 2 is kind of weird though. The distortion is a little bit buzzy. Overall, its a pretty nice amp.

You gotta' luv it!

I have 25+ years experience playing guitar. Been gigging & recording for the last 19. Own 4 other 100 wt all tube heads along with the Vox AC100CPH. The AC100CPH is an outright STEAL at it's current price. Get one before they are gone. It's no secret @ this point that Vox has stopped making them & it's a shame. Seems the market just wasn't ready for an all tube, high gain Vox. Well, I was & this thing is a dream come true. Well made, though the tubes COULD use an upgrade. The tone; Channel 1 is close to an AC30 (It's pure Vox).It chimes. I think the best way to describe Channel 2 is AC30 meets JCM900. It too is undeniably Vox, but goes to much higher gain levels than other all tube Vox amps have in the past. It screams. Great amp.

Great amp

By Telecaster and Vox player

I've had this for 8 months and it is about perfect. I needed an amp for an early 1960s JBL speaker cabinet with a 15" D140. This amp gets a chunky loud sound that cuts through and sounds great in both small and large rooms. I use just a little of the reverb and no effects; simple basic rock sound for a very good price.

Well Done

By VoxBox

Let me start by saying I've played both the 50 watt and 100 watt version. I went with the 50, this is a BIG sounding amp. I agree with other reviews in that the gain channel sounds buzzy but I change the tubes to Groove Tubes EL34 and that really changed things. The clean channel is up there with Ac30 territory. The gain channel gets into the marshall arena. Just be warned the EQ's on both channels are very picky. Prepare to spend some time getting your tones right. Once you do it pays off this amp sounds like a machine. It's a shame it seems like Vox is discontinuing the model but I'm glad I got my hands on one!

You neighbors will hate this amp =)

By cyanide9

After reading every mixed review on this amp that I could find I went ahead and purchased it, and absolutely love it. At first upon receiving the amp I didn't have a lot of love for the gain channel despite the sweet sounding clean, the red channel was just buzzy and muddy and you couldn't do much with it. After changing the preamp tubes around and swapping the stock Ruby's with JJ/Tesla EL34L's it's a whole new machine. I highly recommend these tubes in the Classic Plus, it being a bright amp.

Vox Lover

My new Vox ac100 came the other day, when i opened the box i was so amazed how it looked. It was a little heavy but i loved it. I put it on top of my Marshall full stack and it sounded great. this head is every thing i ever wanted. the price was great too. I had to order the Vox Classic V412bn cab to make it ALL VOX. Thanks M.F.

Great when it works

By peteywonderful

I have owned this amp for 2 years and it only worked perfect for about 3 months till it went south. But I recently had it fixed and I still love this amp. Its great for indie/garage rock. But I wouldnt expect to much out of the built in distortion, but overall a very good amp head.

This Is a Steal!

By DVader7272

from Dallas

I just got my AC 100 head last month, when they were $100 more than they are now, and I couldn't be more stoked. These heads are simply amazing. The review that's claiming the guy couldn't achieve any usable tone must not know what he's doing. Or just be into stuff other than warm, ballsy, tube amp sounds.Let me start by saying, I'm running this head through an Egnater 2x12 Tourmaster cab. I'm using a Fender Jazzmaster guitar w/ Quarter Pound pickups. This guitar has been fidgety and feedback prone with other amps, but it's butter through this setup. The clean channel has a full-range of warm sounds and lush reverb. The dirty channel is where the real fun is though. After experimenting, I've found that the key is to keep the gain under 12 o'clock. If it goes up too high, the sounds muddies up a bit. But keeping it under 12, the dirty channel can do any kind of rock you're looking for.Highly recommended - for this price it's the biggest steal I've ever seen for a 100w quality amp!

I couldn't get along with this amp. The gain is extremely buzzy and sounds like a solid state amp. The fat switch just adds a lot of flubby low end to the buzz. It does not take pedals well at all and boosting the front end doesn't tighten up the lead channel. On the upside the clean channel is decent, but again it doesn't take pedals well at all. It really feels and responds like a solid state amplifier. I tried it through several cabinets and just couldn't get usable tones out of it.
