OVERVIEW

This little AC combo will steal the show with its amazing tone and limited-edition looks.

The AC10C1 is an all-tube 10-watt amplifier that joins Vox's flagship lineup of tube amps, the Custom Series. More portable than the AC15 and more powerful than the AC4, the AC10C1 provides an array of classic Vox tones and comes equipped with studio-quality reverb and a master volume.

The AC10 was one of the first amplifiers to bear the Vox name and was available only for a short period of time in the early 1960s. Long adored for its ability to achieve rich, articulate tube tone at very manageable volumes, the AC10 has become a highly coveted piece of Vox history since its discontinuation in 1965.

It features a pair of 12AX7 preamp tubes, along with a pair of EL84 power-amp tubes to produce that legendary Vox tonal flavor on its way through the single 10 in. Celestion VX10 speaker.

FEATURES
  • Power: 10W (tube)

Comments about Vox AC10C1 Classic Limited Edition 10W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I wanted to wait a few months before submitting a review of the AC10 to put it to the test. Originally purchased as the appeal of a lightweight and portable amp that could deliver classic Vox tube tone seemed worth the roll of the dice. Once the British Racing Green was available I pulled the trigger and a few months later I would say this amp has met and surpassed my expectations.

    My viewpoints...
Downside (not many): This amp breaks up very quickly if you are looking for strictly clean tones stage volume may be a struggle. Somewhat of a one trick pony in terms of tone (but classic Vox sound is all you need). Access to preamp tubes requires the guts to be removed, not too difficult if you have done this before but might be a challenge for some.

The Upside: The 10 inch Celestion speaker is a great fit for this amp, no need to swap out. Plenty of bass response and dynamics produced. Great recording amp, plenty of clarity and compression - amp sounds HUGE when mic'd. Very, very, very lightweight and portable...grab and go. Great tones available at bedroom levels.

Side note: after a month I did swap out the tubes. JJ's for the EL84's and Tungsol for the 12ax7's. In the preamp section I experimented with EHX and JJ's as well but found the Tungsol to be the best fit for my needs. Lots of punch and clarity in the bass.

Definitely a +1 on the Vox AC10c1 from me

Comments about Vox AC10C1 Classic Limited Edition 10W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I've only had the amp for less than 2 weeks now so it's to early to tell if it will hold up. But for right now it's a great little sounding amp (Tube Tone). I've used it at Band practice once so far and it cut through the mix really nice. Haven't had to crank it up yet only at home to see what it does and it held it's own.

    Vox AC10C1 BRG

Comments about Vox AC10C1 Classic Limited Edition 10W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Ordered a BRG ac10c1. Very sharp looking amplifier. Nothing to complain about with this amp. Great sound quality in a small package. Seems like it's built solid. Single channel so gain and volume are used together to get desired tone. Loud! Open box arrived in mint condition doesn't appear to have been touched. Reverb is a nice feature. Very sensitive to adjustments. Playing with a sss Stratocaster. Anyone who has heard a tube amp vs digital or modeling there is a huge difference in sound if you can afford it. Vox nails it for this price.

Comments about Vox AC10C1 Classic Limited Edition 10W 1x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

This is a lovely little amp with a good dynamic tone. I get a nice creamy clean tone with plenty of low end thanks to the enclosed cabinet, sounds great with my semi hollow body guitar with humbuckers. I would love to try it out with a single coil guitar sometime. The one issue I have with it is the controls are crazy sensitive, like taking a shower at someone else's house. A tiny touch to the knob and it leaps rather than the expected change in volume or tone, but once you get past that, the control doesn't increase as much as you'd expect. I haven't tried playing out with it, but I suspect it wouldn't cut through - to be expected from a small amp.
