Comments about Vox AGA150 150W 2-Channel Acoustic Guitar Combo Amp:
This amp has been begging for a review …. So,
Is advertised as the "flagship" model, and I question why.
My purchase was directed by all the "input/output" choices, and Vox reputation.
AGA150 model sports an Amp from Bang & Olufson (very quality Danish Brand), super-efficient , and I question why the other models don't ? … an extra tweeter for this 150 model too … consider looking at final OHMs and power-consumption between models suggests advertising tweaks as well.
XLR + ¼ - input is important to me, "gain" Hi-z/Low-z a+++ as I sometimes plug non-active devices, 12AU7-tube channel (industry standard - the book says "signature"?), Phantom-Power onboard, through to that "DI-out" (I have been told is "hot"), DI is pre-effects (and I don't mind) –
The in-between controls are still a question to me, hooking pedals or pre-gadgets will instill feedback if amp is within reaching distance, (directional helps, only "somewhat" that "feedback" rotatory notch knob), keeping a clean vacant sound can be achieved tho, "Volume" is dependent upon that, "Clipping" IS an issue if you try to play loudly creating weird distortion of sound (Vox needs to address this), "Bass" is rich, considering the smallish speaker, "Middle tone ummm, "Treble" I find needs to be kept down (unless you enjoy tinny) … "Color" does a little something but I am not impressed, "Reverb" is more of a hall or box effect (not echo), "Chorus" adds a slight volume but I really can't find any difference ? (my rating = useless) ,
Loudness is not there, my old 1960's 100w Carvin SX can blow it over easily.
Can't say am unhappy with this model, but will say write-up's from those selling this box is somewhat hype. It does what I needed it to do (practice/monitor), is solid and very compact,
I recommend going into a Music Store with all the Vox Models to try (we have no such thing in Alaska), and please let us know your opinion ….. I may be lacking choice or experience to give a true rating on this AGA150, my thing is (gentler) Vocals + plugged-in Acoustic guitar currently ….
Kudo's to MF for having the best Shipping policies in the business…
