VOX tone that plugs directly into your guitar!

The Vox amPlug AC30 is a headphone amp that can help you to create the perfect practice session. The tiny amPlug plugs directly into your guitar--then just plug in your headphones and relish some great Vox tone.

Jamming late at night? Don't want to wake the neighbors? Maybe you want to work out a lick with your MP3 player without taking the time to set up your amp. You want to play guitar right now. amPlug is the answer. Simply plug this palm-sized headphone guitar amp directly into your guitar, and enjoy serious guitar sound anywhere, anytime.

Even with its ultra-compact size, amPlug perfectly reproduces the complex and warm distortion that is distinctive of a vacuum tube, as well as the powerful high gain produced by a large amp stack. Using analog modeling technology, the Vox amPlug delivers full-fledged amp sound.

Even the circuit response of the original amp is simulated completely. The simulation extends not only to the response of the tone circuits, but also to the way in which the high frequency and gain are affected when you turn down the volume control of the guitar. Every detail has been faithfully reproduced.

amPlug can be used in numerous ways. With up to fifteen hours of battery life, it's easy to take amPlug anywhere. In addition to practicing at home, it's a great way to warm up before a live performance or on the road. And amPlug is not just a convenient way to get great guitar sound. There's also an AUX input jack so you can jam along with your CD/MP3 player.

AC30 emulates the AC30 top boost sound of a vintage VOX AC30, and uses two natural-sounding gain stages to reproduce the distinctive AC30 tone.

Also available in Classic Rock, based on a UK-made amplifier head, and Metal, based on a California-made high-gain amplifier head.

I love walking around the house playing this thing. The tone is great and there is more head-room than I have ever seen heard in a mini-amp. I think every guitarist should have at least one of these.
This amp has it all. I love the aux input feature. This is money spent that will make you a better guitarist. It is the perfect silent-practice tool. It handles effects really well. I play it directly in my guitar or at the end of my pedal board, and It is always up to the task. Reverbs, delays, even the Big Muff come through perfectly. In a pinch, I used it as a DI. I'm not recommending this as a viable option for a silent stage, but the tone was good and the sound was big and full. The only reason I give it a 9 and not a 10 is because there is no clean option. In order to have volume, you have to have a bit of gain. When the battery is about to die, the light goes out. Savor this moment! For the next 20 minutes you will be having the time of your life. The tones and break-up that this thing produces on a dying battery are really cool.
Of course this thing isn't a high-quality piece of gear, look at the price. The sound, however, is worth a lot more. If they improved the quality of the casing and raised the price you wouldn't buy it. So love it for what it is.I live in an apartment with my wife and a newborn baby girl. This piece of plastic gives me some high-volume practice. Even if it only takes place in my head, it is well worth the money.

It's small, it's cheap, and it works. That's about it. There are three knobs - gain, tone, and volume. There's no way to get a really clean sound - you have to crank the gain to hear it at all. And it's totally dry, which is a little disappointing.

Great tool for when you want to play and others don't want to hear. Amplification w/o distortion has a narrow range but it's benefit out weighs it negatives.

Comments about Vox Amplug AC30 Headphone Amp:

The sound was surprising for such a small inexpensive unit. Good clean sound and warm growling distortion.

My only concern is that the unit protrudes from the guitar's input and might be easily broken-off when playing in a seated position. Of course this concern would be based on where the input is positioned on your guitar.

Comments about Vox Amplug AC30 Headphone Amp:

I love this thing, while it's made for guitar (which it sounds great especially if you have quality headphones to use with this thing. It has a great tone and i was really impressed with it. I actually use this thing for bass because it has a really rich warm growl to it that sounds killer with my bass. My only complaint is that the AUX and Headphone inputs have fallen apart on me on a couple of these things. I'm on my third one, but the first two, the inputs where in a plastic housing so they were very weak and broke easily, this third one i got seems to have a metal housing so I hope that this one is much more sturdy.

Overall, not a bad device. Easy to use and portable with the ability to go from clean to overdrive easily. Quality of sound and construction is poor. I had to return mine due to a low frequency hum defect. Sounds more like a transistor amp rather than a tube amp. Still not bad if you just want something to practice with.

Comments about Vox Amplug AC30 Headphone Amp:

I gig about twice a month and play weekly in my church. I only use tube amps and my main is a Jet City. I had an AC4 and it was fantastic. I bought this because my stack is at church and my JC is at our practice house. This thing is pretty cool. The sound isn't bad. Toy with it and you can get some good tones. The best tone comes from your fingers people..don't forget that! However this is not bad. Tone, Volume, and Gain controls and it acts like a tube amp. The Vol knob on your guitar will clean up your tone if you back it off. extremely clean tones and a distortion that might give you British or 80's rock. It isn't a real AC30 but it is plenty good for practice. I use it to learn new songs as it has an AUX input. Now I have to get the Joe Satriani AMPLUG. It has a better gain and delay..WOOT! Definitely worth the money. Use good earphones for an even better sound. Thumbs up for this.

Sorry to add to my review below but my poor little Vox AM amp died within 10 days after one little fall.. my bad as I am a clumsy and hard on things but I recommend removing said AMP from your guitar unless in use as I dropped my Bernie Marsden SE guitar from a tiny height with the amp plugged in and she broke rather easily

I have bought a Fender 10G Frontman in lieu of a new AM Plug so that should tell you my views on longevity of these things.

Still it is a very good little amp for what it is meant to be and how it is meant to be used.

This headphone amp is perfect for what it is intended to do: let the player practice quietly. I play bass, but instead of spending another ten or so on the bass headphone amp, I got this one. Sure, they promise a little too much, but the bottom line is, it works, it's cheap ... and if you want big quality and bells and whistles, you can get it. For a lot more than this costs.
