Vintage and modern tones with flexible control!
With dual channels--each with its own gain and volume controls--and growling tube tone, the Vox Bulldog Distortion pedal adds extra bite to your fret-burning maneuvers. Gain 1 dishes out vintage distortion while Gain 2 packs a more modern, aggressive sound with slightly scooped mids. Both are adjustable from subtle to completely over the top. A Bass control adds extra low end thump at extreme settings and a warm, round mellowness at lower settings. And with the Gain 2 voice control you can independently tailor the second channel's hell-raising tone. A Treble control will take your sound from a biting attack at one extreme to smooth and liquid at the other. The Bulldog also is equipped with true bypass.
- 2 channels--each with its own gain and volume
- Voice control on channel 2
- Gain one dishes up vintage
- Gain 2 has more aggressive sound with scooped mids
- Bass and treble controls
- True bypass

I don't recommend it without trying it previously, it doesn't have a typical sound. The most i like is it's versatility, it's like having two pedals in one but the worst i consider is it's low volume, lack of bass and cold tone. I am using it for recording alternative stuff, i like it on that style. Try it before buying.
I think the tone is great for the price and if you spend time you can get a convincing tone from classic Page or Townsend to thrash metal like early metallica. It won't do insanely distorted tones but it get's dirty enough for 99% of the guitar players out there. However, it could benefit from more independence between the two settings and a bit more responce when turning the knobs. It's also important to remember what kind of amp you're starting with. If it's a 6 inch speaker cheapy travel amp it won't suddenly become a stack. Also, if you already play a big powerful stack I doubt this will substitute the tone that's already n your amp so keep that in mind. I use it with a Roland JC120 and it sounds really good all together under $1000.
This is an awesome pedal. From dirt, to crunch, to all out, it has the tone. I was dubious about the cooltron technology at first, but I'm now a believer. It is extremely versatile, and it nails the tube tone, that I wanted in a distortion pedal. I wanted it for great tone for practicing at low volumes in my apartment. It does not, disappoint. It sounds great through my fender champ, and epivalve. I can't wait to play it out.
Great sounding pedal. It wont do death metal. But it will get nasty. The 2 channels are worth the price of admission.
There seems to be a trend towards tube driven distortions. Several of them out there are quite good; Damage Control, Tonebone, and Rocktron. The Vox Bulldog's clarity outshines most of them...and for slightly less money. The other cool thing about this pedal is that it has 2 channels. To do this with my Damage Control pedals...I have to have 2 separate pedals in my effects chain. With the Bulldog, it mixes nicely with both solid state and tube amps...and interestingly enough, it's general tone doesn't change so much when I switch amps. From classic blues to modern rock, the Bulldog works great. The quality of the pedal is outstanding. Great tone, great flexibility, and great quality. Want to improve your tone? Put a litle English on it!
This is one of the worst distortion pedal's I?ve ever tried this gives a big bass sound and even by moving all the knobs on the pedal it didn?t make a difference this pedal should be known as VOX BULLSHIT DISTORTION
This is my first ever review on a product... just b/c it is sooo good. This pedal is amazing. The tube makes all the difference in the world. You have to try it to believe it. It has all the distortion you could want... it can go all the way from a nice crunch tone to metal. And it lets you shape the distortion however you would like it to sound. It is a bit pricey, but it is worth every penny for a distortion pedal that sounds this good. You have to at least try it. I like the TS-9, and have the Marshall Govn'r, but this pedal blows all the pedals I have tried out of the water!
This pedal is simply amazing. This pedal is powered by a pre-amp tube so its like having a new amp. I use this pedal with a Fender Hot Rod Deville 410 and two Les Pauls. This pedal is also amazing on solid state amps. The best quality about this pedal is that when you turn up the gain, the notes still come out crystal clear (unlike most distortion pedals out there). Both channels are amazing very versatile. A little pricey but THIS IS THE PEDAL TO OWN. BUY IT!
