I have had this amp for about 2 months now. The only thing I did was change tubes and I also did the bright cap mod. This amp is fantastic. Do not listen to the bad reviews here. There must have been some duds when these where first manufactured, but every one I have played in my search for this amp was fantastic. You do need to put in the tubes you like but that is just to get the tone you like. These amps ooz vintage AC30. Just a fantastic amp that you won't be able to stop playing. The only negative thing I can say is that the Wharfdale speakers take quite a long time to break in. But once they are they sound fantastic. For those who say these speakers are junk, they don't know what they are talking about. Just break them in and your in tone heaven. The Wharfdales were designed and tested by an original celestion designer. They are designed as a combination greenback and G12H-30, and you can here that in them once there broken in.I would recomend this to anyone who wants to swim in vintage tube tone. And the extra features are very thoughtfully added. They do nothing but help produce the sound you want.I have a lot of tube amps from searching for the right one. I should have gone with my instinct and bought this first. I would have saved a lot of money in the long run.

I bought one from my local music store after trying it out a couple weeks and wish I would've returned it within the return period.Bad:-"Chimey" isn't the word for it, the normal channel is just too bright! It's piercing even with the treble all the way down.-It doesn't take pedals well and the built in reverb is hard to describe, but different than any other reverb I've ever heard- not good.-It's very noisy when turned up. The signal is still "clean", it's not breaking up, but it rattles and the sound is very loose.-The switches for modern/vintage, normal/custom, etc. do very little to the sound.-The tone cut control works well to about 1 o'clock, then sounds like a wet blanket has been thrown over the amp.Good:-I really liked the boost channel. From low to high gain, it's very articulate and you can get some really crunchy, classic overdriven sounds. Very nice boost.-Alright tremolo.I sold mine and bought a used Fender Deluxe Reverb for a way better price. You can still get those sparkling highs, but you can also dial them out for a warmer, fuller tone. The natural overdrive doesn't get as crunchy, but it handles pedals much better than the Vox.

Comments about Vox Custom Classic AC30CC2 30w 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
WELL worth the money. Vox finally got back the good tone!
I'm a Matchless fan as well as an Orange fan - and for the money, this amp is worth every penny. Vox finally got back to the classic tone. The added controls and cut control have helped me get to that warm and brittle chime that I love.
Comments about Vox Custom Classic AC30CC2 30w 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
When I tried this amplifier at my local guitar store, there was just one drawback; I couldn't get enough gain out of it. Everything else seemed spectacular. I purchased it on the chance that the Top Boost channel would drive harder with higher volumes. When I brought it home, I turned it up sufficiently and really played it the way it should be played, and I honestly couldn't be happier. The controls take a bit of getting used to, but they're extremely versatile. It will get some pretty intense overdrive tones at higher volumes. My one recommendation is to get a Line Selector pedal so you can switch between the channels.Anyways, you really ought to at least try this legendary amp.
Comments about Vox Custom Classic AC30CC2 30w 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
I'm surprised to see so many poor reviews for the AC30 Custom Classic. I had used a JMI era Vox as well as a 70's ere AC30, and found both to be very inconsistent. My Custom Classic however has been a beautiful sounding and performing amp from the get go. I play 50+ shows a year and countless practices with the AC, and it's always 100% perfect. Apart from needing a preamp tube replaced after about 1000 hours, it's been nothing short of perfect. I play in an original indie/modern rock band -the AC has no shortage of guts. It's not a high gain amp, so I use a Virtual Sound Jekyl and Hyde for drive/distortion. I also play (John) in a Beatles Tribute, and love the fact that it can be pretty and jangly, warm and full, or crunch all at once.I have a friend who has had one short out on him... but I guess I got lucky. I'll never buy anything else.
Comments about Vox Custom Classic AC30CC2 30w 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
When I bought this I was kind of iffy on the sound. It took me about a week to find exactly what i wanted out of it and i couldnt be happier. You can run your effects through this thing with out tone quality going out the window. Ive played many jazz gigs with it and afterwards people come up to me complimenting me on the sound quality. I took the stock speakers out and put greenbacks in it but the stock speakers are good i just wanted better. Your not gonna get heavy distortion with this amp. Clean tones and great blues type distortion. Think about your style of music playing before getting this amp. I dont use effects cause the pure clean tone of this amp is beautiful. Couldnt be happier. Just gotta break it in and try out different settings. The reverb is the best ive ever heard and also tremelo. Good buy!
Comments about Vox Custom Classic AC30CC2 30w 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
OK...I've read some of the other reviews from the guys who don't like the ac30. I have to say, it's a GREAT amp! Understand from the get-go, this is an adult's amp, and if you're looking for an ultra-high-gain amp, this is not the one for you. However, if you intend to use this amp like a tube amp should be used, you won't be disappointed. Turn the channel volume to 10, set your lead volume level with the master volume, then set your level of gain with your volume knob on your guitar, and you are good to go. Wonderful crunch, incredible cleans...what more could you ask for?
Comments about Vox Custom Classic AC30CC2 30w 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
I bought this amp without even playing it. I have to say that it took me a while to find my sound. The tone controls do make a huge difference when used in conjunction with the tone cut. Plus, this amp needs to be turned up, warmed up, and broken it to appreciate. I've used it on numerous recordings, from country to heavy rock.
Comments about Vox Custom Classic AC30CC2 30w 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
I bought this amp looking for a real good sounding "non-stack" amp.. Wrong call. Good clean tones though... Just not for anything oriented with rock. I traded it back in..
Comments about Vox Custom Classic AC30CC2 30w 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
I rented this amp from a local store to see if I might be interested in buying it. I was attracted to it because of all the features it has, but for all of the thought & effort that obviously went into making this amp, it sounds like absolute garbage. Possibly the worst sounding amp I've ever tried. It's a terrible shame because the amp is built very well with a lot of attention going into the construction of it, but it just falls on its face when you try to play through it. I have a Tweed Blues Jr. that I threw a Greenback into & an old Blues Deville that I gig with regularly & the Vox doesn't even come close to either of them. The amp sound brittle, is not very responsive in terms of touch sensitivity & when you try to hit it hard for some lead work, the break up on it is extremely unpleasant. Not a very warm/smooth/buttery amp at all. You can't even hear the Rectifier working. Vox PLEASE fix the AC30. You guys always tout how you're all about the relentless pursuit of tone, well in my opinion, an amp company with your heritage really should be doing more.
Comments about Vox Custom Classic AC30CC2 30w 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
Vox has unfortunately created a sham of a product with this batch of cheapies. You can find a nice Vox for the same price, please respect those and try to find one. If you must have one of these be sure to run it through the paces as many, and I mean many that I have played have serious technical issues. It must be the quality control was set to 0 with all the bugs in these little boxes. I've played em all and if you must get a new vox look to the handwired ac15. You can find them for a very reasonable price and they sound far superior. Again, please check the am you buy when it comes to these. I have played I believe 5 ac30s of this line with technical issues so bad that were deemed unplayable in any pro setting.
Comments about Vox Custom Classic AC30CC2 30w 2x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
This is my first high end valve. It's a beast! Very loud, very clear and the tremolo and reverb are incredible! The gain is classic crunch tone. Heavy little amp but then again the wheel was invented a long time ago, so no complaints. Buy a mini airport trolley and you'll be OK (Vox why don't you start selling them with these?). p.s. I play slide on an SG with heavy strings. Classic ABB Fillmore tone through this amp :)
