I've had my Night Train now for a few weeks and I love it more everyday. I'm playing through a Vox Heritage cabinet with a 1x12 Blue Alnico speaker. Thats one deadly combo. I can get such diverse tones out of it. Raw blues, silky jazz, hard rock and even some modern metal(with the volume really loud on thick) and everything in between. It also has the signature Vox chime.Don't be fooled by the size, this little toaster is LOUD. I jam regularly with a full band and I sometimes have to play on the 7.5W setting(when the drummer is caged). It's great for home practice and you can get pretty warm sounds even on the lower volumes but of course the amp shines when you're pushing the tubes.I play both a Strat and a Les Paul through it and both really shine. The humbuckers are notibly better than the single coils on the thick setting though.

So, I bought the Night Train in November. The first time I turned it on, I couldn't have been happier. Everything from country to hard rock (no metal here) all in this amp (I would have liked a second channel, reverb, and an FX loop, but for the price, I can do without). That said, I turned it off and the next day, I went to play it again, and it blew a fuse as soon as I turned it on. I thought no big deal, so I simply replaced the fuse. The same thing happened again. So, I took it into my local repair shop, and the repair guy just put a new fuse in it and charged me fifty dollars. Two months later, I'm back to using my would-be backup amp, the Orange Tiny Terror, and am stuck with a Vox DUD. I would highly reccomend you look into other heads before buying this, the Egnater Rebel 30, the Orange Tiny Terror, and the Mesa/Boogie Trans-Atlantic in particular.

Comments about Vox Night Train NT15H 15W Guitar Amp Head:
Lets face it, if you're going for a Vox, you're probably looking for great cleans to a moderate overdrive. And yes it delivers.
No you wont get any metal tones out of this amp alone, but you can push the "girth" channel with an OD and shape it more to your liking due to the tone controls being bypassed. I feel that Vox did a pretty good job delivering a solid dirty channel aimed for more classic rock.
Even though its not made in the UK you still get the mids that they are known for. On the clean side the tone controls are very responsive and easy to dial in the sounds you want. And yes you get plenty of low end thump! This is a Tone Junkies amp.

Comments about Vox Night Train NT15H 15W Guitar Amp Head:
These little Vox heads are killer grab and go amps. The bright channel is where the action is - classic Vox chime. For a 15 watt amp, this thing is LOUD. It can easily be used for club gigs. The unit I received was damaged in shipping (switches broke off). Musician's Friend handled the problem promptly and got a fresh unit out to me very quickly. Nice customer service from MF. This amp is never going to replace a genuine AC30 or AC15, but it fills a niche quite nicely. Recommended.

Comments about Vox Night Train NT15H 15W Guitar Amp Head:
This is a nice little amp that isn't too dark sounding. Love the classic vox tones. You can dial in just about anything, blues, classic rock, country, jazz. Put your favorite pedal in the mix and you couldn't ask for much more. Portable. I' ve got the matching 1x12 cab to go with it.I can get everything in the front seat of the car, amp/cab/guitar and pedals. Plenty loud enough, in fact still really loud for the bedroom player which is the main reason I got it. but I just love the tone it brings out of my Tele and Les Paul.
Comments about Vox Night Train NT15H 15W Guitar Amp Head:
Here's the deal: my Soldano and Fender DeVille sound great. I play this thing for a little while, and then A/B it against both of them, and by comparison, they don't sound as good to me- which makes me sick considering how much money that was dumped into both of those amps. You can't miss with this amp, really. It's one of those things that's so user friendly, it's hard to make it sound bad.
This thing is fantastic. The only reason it doesn't get a 10 is because I felt like a footswitch option would have made good sense, considering the switching between modes. Even still, this amp does everything from squeaky, chimey clean to buck-nasty. It is certainly not a one-trick pony.
Nice and heavy, small footprint, solid construction, built like a tank. Pots feel very smooth, no artifact noise when moved while live.
This is a steal. Bottom line. This amp can do almost anything, and does it well. If you don't believe me, go try it out.

One of my better purchases.
Everything they say it is. Awesome tube tone in a no frills portable pkg. East to move around, light weight powerful, killer tone and great to look at... Well Done VOX!

Comments about Vox Night Train NT15H 15W Guitar Amp Head:
I rated this amp a 9 [as with all Vox amps] because the only place you'll find a 10 is in Heaven. Vox [meaning Voice] amps have a very distinct and listenable voice --- good from clean to 10. Experiment with this pupppy and you'll be glad you did ---don't be afraid to try something new! This little amp is worth your hard earned money!
Comments about Vox Night Train NT15H 15W Guitar Amp Head:
I got this brand new in august 2010 and I used it sparingly, somehwere around 9 hours. Then inMay 2011, when I switched it to "Triode", it started humming really loud, almost as if it wasmade of very low quality materials. I did a internet search for "vox night train humming" andone solution is to replace the tubes. I'm doing better than that because my made in Vietnam vox night train will be replaced by a made in U.S. Fender. This thing, which presently does not hum when in "Pentode" mode, is nice and chimey, responds perfectly to pick attack through 490R and 498T humbuckers, and makes an SG sound so absolutely beautifull through a Celestion Blue. Indeed, the sound this thing makes is easily worth whateverit costs, and that is where it all ends. This thing truly is "low on features" and also low on reliability and has some irrelevant"features". One thing that is odd is there is no footswitch control, which would be great toswitch from a distortion mode to a nice and clean and chimey mode. So then this lack offootpedal control really limits what can be done. Also what is limiting is there is only one channel. On the other hand, Vox decided to have a switch to bypass the tone controls, which does not make a whole lot of sense as the tone controls make only the slightest difference. Most odd is the ability to go from Pentode mode, or 15 watts output, to Triode mode, or 7.5 watts output. Apparently this is done to lower the sound output of the amp while allowing the user toincrease the gain on the tubes to get that nice and delicious and chimey distortion out of the tubes. Vox should have concentrated less on the tone bypass and switching from Pentode and Triodeand more on installing quality materials in their made in Vietnam made amplifier. That is more true because to get the sound of an overdriven tube, such as at bedroom levels, a more logical approach would be to use a modelling amplifier, or some other arrangement such as a Marshall JMP-1 preamp with a transistor power amp. Competition wise, this thing is remarkably uncompetitive with domestic made amplifiers. For onlya few dollars more, or fistfull of dollars, the U.S. made Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb is a complete bargain and chock full of nice things including a tube rectifier, 2 channels, Tube spring reverb, Tube vibrato, and a footswitch. It is hard to believe any guitar amp is more musical than theNight Train, and with a little reworking from VOX, this thing would be a real winner.
Comments about Vox Night Train NT15H 15W Guitar Amp Head:
I've owned my 15 watt Night Train for almost a year and half. The first time I saw her it was love. I AB'd oodles of heads in it's class just to be certain I wasn't in love with just a hot nasty hoe. She sure is good looking.
After owning a Vox AD 60 and AD 120 (KILLER SOUND!!) I was leery because the Chinese electronics in the AD 60 and 120 fail reliably once a year on each amp. I just fixed the 120 kast night (4.2011). Still I was in love and since I repaired the other amps myself I figured I would give the NT15 a try. 1.5 years and 27 gigs later she is amazing!!! She's reliable and tough as nails and holds her own next to the AC15. Go Vox or Roland. Can we somehow get these things built in the US or England? I would feel better about my purchases.Great EQ. An effects loop would be really cool.
After a year and half I've had no issues
Great deal!! Seriously. I have a feeling I will own this amp for a long time.
Comments about Vox Night Train NT15H 15W Guitar Amp Head:
I play this threw a full stack 2 4x12 cabs .My friend who;s been playing as long as i have asked me what was different about the head .I said its stock. It gives a real lynch like sound ;pinch harmonics all over with any guitar i used . clean as clean can be even when distorted every note is audable. I recomend this head for anyone. This is a professional head in a little form that kicks ass. At 7 watts you;ll be turning down the volume on your axe. This head is completely easy to use ; reliable and the tone is sensational. Out of all the botique heads and i own a peavey classic 50 ; rebel 20 and a carvin 3v100 this is my favorite and go to head. Buy it you won;t be dissapointed. It loves pedals also single coil or humbucker style guitars all scream with this baby.

I play a les paul. The combination of the vox, my paul and using a 1984 fender delux 85 as the cabinet is amazing.. Found a tone and sound that I had been looking for. I love it :-)
