Vox

The rock-solid, no-compromise, all-tube VOX head for the musician on the go.

Whether you're adding your hot sound to a late-night demo, sitting in at your favorite club, or jamming with friends, the Night Train NT15H is your new best friend. Whenever and wherever, the Vox Night Train will deliver that smooth and satisfying all-tube sound. You don't want to choose between killer sound and total convenience—with the Vox Night Train amp head you never will.

If Looks Could Kill

Solid enough to inspire confidence, Night Train weighs just under 17 pounds, and the "armored lunchbox" dimensions provide extreme portability. Finished with a cool chrome mirror-finish, the signature VOX diamond design reveals that inspiring vacuum-tube glow. And of course, the Night Train NT15H guitar amp includes its own padded carry case to protect your investment.

True Tube Power

The sound is pure VOX. Inside, a pair of EL84 tubes deliver on the tube power promise. Two 12AX7 tubes drive the preamp stage with both power and clarity. This is the same winning tube complement as the classic VOX AC15. From chime-like clean tones to the warmest overdrive, there is no mistaking that harmonic richness of pure tube performance.

Dual Nature

The Vox Night Train's single switch lets you select between Pentode or Triode tube operation. In the Pentode mode, Night Train delivers a full 15 watts of power. In the Triode mode, the power is cut to 7.5 watts. The Triode mode also relaxes the tube power stage, letting that silky-smooth, mellow tube character shine through.

Preamp Pizzazz

Night Train greets you with a clear, simple panel design, offering the familiar Gain and Volume controls. The Tone controls include Treble, Middle and Bass, allowing you to dial up just the right character for your individual, signature tone. In addition, the preamp section features a mode switch, offering both Bright and Thick options. The Bright mode accentuates the high-frequency components for a clear, ringing tone; the Thick setting bypasses the tone circuit to boost the gain and create a chunkier, heavier sound.

Cabinet Convenience

Equipped with both 8- and 16-ohm speaker jacks, Night Train amp head can be used immediately with nearly any speaker cabinet. This extra measure of versatility is just one more example of why the Vox Night Train might be the one amp you never leave at home.

Features

  • Rock-solid, all-tube head made to travel
  • Uncompromising sound with 2 12AX7 preamp tubes and 2 EL84 power tubes.
  • Selectable Bright or Thick mode switch provides EQ and Gain variations for just the right tone

  • Master Volume control preserves your gain settings at any playing level
  • Solid, industrial-chic mirror finish exudes tube coolness

Features:

This thing is fantastic. The only reason it doesn't get a 10 is because I felt like a footswitch option would have made good sense, considering the switching between modes. Even still, this amp does everything from squeaky, chimey clean to buck-nasty. It is certainly not a one-trick pony.

Quality:

Nice and heavy, small footprint, solid construction, built like a tank. Pots feel very smooth, no artifact noise when moved while live.

Value:

This is a steal. Bottom line. This amp can do almost anything, and does it well. If you don't believe me, go try it out.

Overall:

Here's the deal: my Soldano and Fender DeVille sound great. I play this thing for a little while, and then A/B it against both of them, and by comparison, they don't sound as good to me- which makes me sick considering how much money that was dumped into both of those amps. You can't miss with this amp, really. It's one of those things that's so user friendly, it's hard to make it sound bad.

Features:

I rated this amp a 9 [as with all Vox amps] because the only place you'll find a 10 is in Heaven.  Vox [meaning Voice] amps have a very distinct and listenable voice --- good from clean to 10.  Experiment with this pupppy and you'll be glad you did ---don't be afraid to try something new!  This little amp is worth your hard earned money!

Buy it and Rock!

I have not owned a tube amp before...Didn't really know what the fuss was about untill I bought this one. I have always had solid state amps and can make them sound great with effects and pedals. I just recieved this amp. Super simple to operate and when I turned it on I was amazed at the tone. This amp pumped my 4x12 cabinet with a killer tone! The clean is very bright and gives my guitar the best rythem sound that I have ever been able to produce. The distortion tone about 3/4 up is really a nice tight sound. I was and am amazed! I can't wait to play it again.

I now look at all my lines six equipment and just shake my head. So fancy, so complicated, so many choices...too many! The vox is tiny, simple, great to look at, and sounds amazing! I don't even need pedals. It makes my PRS guitar sing. Now my neihbors can trully enjoy my practice times!

Well built, It's small but heavy. Not sure yet how much tubes are yet but because it sounds good...I really don't care. Prepare to polish it a lot! It looks great...

Excellent price...espeacially since Musicians Friend always has sales. They are sending me a $100 off my next purchase because I bought this through one of their promotions. Thanks you guys! I love not paying sales tax and shipping.

I got this brand new in august 2010 and I used it sparingly, somehwere around 9 hours. Then in May 2011, when I switched it to "Triode", it started humming really loud, almost as if it was made of very low quality materials. I did a internet search for "vox night train humming" and one solution is to replace the tubes. I'm doing better than that because my made in Vietnam vox night train will be replaced by a made in U.S. Fender. This thing, which presently does not hum when in "Pentode" mode, is nice and chimey, responds perfectly to pick attack through 490R and 498T humbuckers, and makes an SG sound so absolutely beautifull through a Celestion Blue. Indeed, the sound this thing makes is easily worth whatever it costs, and that is where it all ends. This thing truly is "low on features" and also low on reliability and has some irrelevant "features". One thing that is odd is there is no footswitch control, which would be great to switch from a distortion mode to a nice and clean and chimey mode. So then this lack of footpedal control really limits what can be done. Also what is limiting is there is only one channel. On the other hand, Vox decided to have a switch to bypass the tone controls, which does not make a whole lot of sense as the tone controls make only the slightest difference. Most odd is the ability to go from Pentode mode, or 15 watts output, to Triode mode, or 7.5 watts output. Apparently this is done to lower the sound output of the amp while allowing the user to increase the gain on the tubes to get that nice and delicious and chimey distortion out of the tubes. Vox should have concentrated less on the tone bypass and switching from Pentode and Triode and more on installing quality materials in their made in Vietnam made amplifier. That is more true because to get the sound of an overdriven tube, such as at bedroom levels, a more logical approach would be to use a modelling amplifier, or some other arrangement such as a Marshall JMP-1 preamp with a transistor power amp. Competition wise, this thing is remarkably uncompetitive with domestic made amplifiers. For only a few dollars more, or fistfull of dollars, the U.S. made Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb is a complete bargain and chock full of nice things including a tube rectifier, 2 channels, Tube spring reverb, Tube vibrato, and a footswitch. It is hard to believe any guitar amp is more musical than the Night Train, and with a little reworking from VOX, this thing would be a real winner.
