Here is the deal with the VOX Valvetronix AD100VTH head, it sounds great through great speakers. I used it first through a line 6 412 cab with Celestion G12's and it sounded good, I then put together an empty Marshall 412 cab and loaded it with Celestion Vintage 30's and OMG what a huge difference that was. I hooked them up to an A/B switch and went back and forth and it is very clear that with the high end speakers this Head sounds amazing.I found it difficult to dial in a nice distortion so I picked up a great distortion pedal and I could not be happier. The knob on the back that allows you to adjust the power out put is great. You keep your great dialed in sound and tone and either crank the volume or bring it way down. I never touch the volume on the face, just the back.

I have the 50 watt Valvetronix amp.I liked it a lot so i ordered this 100 wattamp head.Unfortunately when it arrived I couldget no output to the speakers. I spent a lot of time messing around with it. But it wouldnot power my speakers. I tried all the trouble shooting tips and checked the ohms etc.I had to return it for an exchage.I was on the Amptone website recently and they said this amp has a problem with the effects loopsand the footswitch jack when it is stuck inan open position the speakers go dead.I suspect now that this could have been my problem. I just wanted to give the heads up to anyone who might have this problem.I did not use a footswitch or any external effectshowever so i am not completely certain that was it.But everything else checked out. I really like the sound of this amp soI was really disappointed when it didn't work.Amptone recommends you put in and pull out a 1/4 inch jack on those inputs to close the jacks. As a temporary fix, loop the in and out of the external effects send.

This amp is amazing and loud although it does take a bit to find a good distortion. The effects sound great way better than any line 6. The amp models built in sound incredible and give you many different tones to choose from.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix AD100VTH 100w Guitar Amp Head:

I have this head running through a Egnater Tourmaster 4x12 cab and it's the exact sound that I've been looking for. Clear and beautiful cleans and brutal distortion with plenty of punchy tone. I fell in love with the warm valvetronix vibe the first time I plugged into one. The only bad part about it is the poor quality handle. I have heard stories about the handles breaking on these amps and they do feel very flimsy. But besides that this head is just amazing.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix AD100VTH 100w Guitar Amp Head:

Wow! I bought this amp on a whim and wasn't really expecting much from it. However, after a few minutes I realized that this amp is incredible. I enjoy it so much that it's now my primary go-to amp when our band is doing a show. Everyone I show it too is absolutely impressed with it. I used to run a Pod X3 Live into a Tube poweramp but the TONE on this amp sounds so much better. Definitely worth the money!

This amp is amazing all though I wasn't a huge fan of the distortion. All the effects are grade A perfect sound. Now the distortion isn't bad it's just not my taste I bought a BBE crusher pedal and its amazing with this amp Overall this amp is perfect for small shows or jamming with friends and still have a lot of extra power

Comments about Vox Valvetronix AD100VTH 100w Guitar Amp Head:

I just go this amp for christams, I'm extatic. I plugged my American Strat into it and gave it a good whirl. It raised the hairs up off my legs. With all the awesome features on it, like UK 80's sound and other things like ultimate overdrive, its like owning a piece of history. I am very stunned with its quality, and am probally going to be using it for years to come.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix AD100VTH 100w Guitar Amp Head:

Of course there is a clean channel on the amp. All you have to do is turn down the gain and turn up the volume (not master volume). And I do agree that it did cut out considerably when I had played it. I figured it was a bad cord because how could VOX sell so many AD100VTH amps with having such a fault as that. My suggestion would be to take it back and get a different AD100VTH amp. My opinion is that this amp ROCKS! It has everything you could possibly need, form 3-4 levels of clean and the rest distortion! And how could you go wrong with so many effects right on the amp! In conclusion it's sweet!

Good head for practice...

Comments about Vox Valvetronix AD100VTH 100w Guitar Amp Head:

...but can't take the volume. This head isn't bad. I had it with a Marshall 1960 Vintage 4x12, so it could clearly handle high wattage, but the head just mudds up. There's a ton of options, but I would get sick of them pretty quickly. Nothing seemed to have the initial sound I would get at Guitar Center when I was trying it out.It has the valve which gives it a tube-ish warmth that the Line 6 stuff seriously lacks, but it sadly doesn't go much further. That is over about 20 watts or so when it mudds up. I just don't think the electronic style heads have gone far enough to justify using them for much other than practicing or recording. Granted there are options, but most of them aren't practical short of a few various styles, but there's no footswitch to make them all practical live. And some of the premodeled amps make you wonder who was programming this thing from the start. It has it's ups for sure, but if you want loud and clear, I'd save the cash for a used tube amp and some effects pedals.

The sound I've been looking for

By Hardrock (not metal) man!

Comments about Vox Valvetronix AD100VTH 100w Guitar Amp Head:

I've been playing in bands for years, I've always wanted a mesa boogie triple rectifier. Well, I've never had that kind of money. One day at a music store I stumbled on the valvetronix series. What a sound! Very Tubey! (on account of the tube inside). Big, warm, beefy, crisp, loud, life-like, growly distortion. IT WAS THE SOUND I'VE ALWAYS WANTED. Now, if you have 1,800 dollars to blow, get the triple rectifier. But, if you live in the real world like the rest of us, this amp will come as close to it as possible for hundreds of dollars less! I bought it a week later, and i am in love with it. Every time I play it I am blown away by it's pure tone! Great job on this one VOX, please buy this amp.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix AD100VTH 100w Guitar Amp Head:

I have played many amps in the past few months and I have not been pleased. Most if not all guitar and amp companies have been in a dry spell fir the past couple of years. And not to mention a good majority of the musicians out there all want to use tube amps. But if you want an amo that totally kicks ass and is a bang for you buck, I suggest buying this amp. The only amp that compares to this is maybe a Mesa. The cool thing that I noticed is that the louder the actual volume is on say a tub e setting like US High gain, you can actually hear the tubes squeezing like actual tube amps do. You can do so many things with this amp. I'd honestly put this head up against a Line 6 HD147. This amp will smiply amaze you. Try it out today!.

Playing for over 30 years, I needed an all-inclusive head for quick gigs & jobbing. Since I had success with the 30 watt combo, it was a smart move. Great sounds, power, FX and lightweight.

The best of digital modeling amps

By FTP767

Comments about Vox Valvetronix AD100VTH 100w Guitar Amp Head:

I am a purist for the Vox AC-30TBX sound. In general, I'm not a fan of solid state amps and usually dissapointed with modeling amps. This is a hybrid amp. Effects color the sound of an amp so much, it is next to impossible to recognise the amp. If you are heavy into effects, this amp is great. If you want the pure sound of a tube/valve amp, this is a compromise. It is a good sounding amp. I set up my amps for a side by side evaluation with an A/B switch to dial the amp in as close as possible. To be fair, I was comparing Celestion BLUE Alnico speakers on the vintage tube amp with ceramic magnets on the AD-100vth, so it is not going to be exact. The AD-100VTH is not as crips and chimey as the AC-30, it is a little muddy. These are very subjective statements. All in all, I like the amp and maybe with a tube preamp or Brian May Vox amp going through the effects loop, I can get the sound closer to the real thing. But if you are trying to get the real classic sound of an AC-30. I recommend doing a side by side comparison to avoid dissapointment. I will change the factory tube and get try a couple of Groove Tubes of different ratings one clean and one mid rating. Vox has done an outstanding job in the design...and the AC-30TB is very good model, the other amps that are modeled are even better, trying to digitally clone the AC30TB has to be the most difficult task. It is impossible to clone perfection of the pure class A valve sound. This amp is light years ahead of every other modeling amp.

Gigged with it for years

By Sir Gigs-A-Lot

from Fort Worth, Texas

Comments about Vox Valvetronix AD100VTH 100w Guitar Amp Head:

I've been playing guitar for upward of 6 years now and have tried everything to get my sound the way I wanted it for a reasonable price. The Vox AD100VHT is extremely versitile, and has a sound for every style of music I play. It is also capable of drowning out both my drummer and bassist at the same time... (drummer has a Gretch Catalina kit with Zildjan A's, bassist has a 450w head and ampeg 15' speaker cab, I use a single Marshall 4x12 cab with celestions) Before I bought this head I was skeptical about modeling software because of the line 6 amps. But the effects and different amp settings all sound great, not fake like the line 6's. I just wish it had more channels to use (the reason for the 4 stars on features) though some of the effects arent that great, the delay, reverb, chorus, and flange are what make this amps effects worth trying out. All of the effects have three different peramiters that can be tweaked to get your sound... read the manual. I have yet to find a pedal to match the useable range of those four effects. The distortion ranges from clean a twangy to distorted dirt in your teeth with almost every possibility in between.... great amp!

Simply Amazing

Comments about Vox Valvetronix AD100VTH 100w Guitar Amp Head:

I just picked this up yesterday. It just amazes me how many sounds you can get out of it. It has 11 models that all sound great. I also like how you can lower the power in order to get a cranked tone without the volume. I haven't really used the onboard effects, but the few I tried (reverb and delay) were great. I would definetly recommend this amp to anyone. It also looks great too.

This amp offers the best tone, warm and smooth for a great price. Get your hands on this baby as fast as you can. As a lead guitarist in a band for 5 years, I have used many amps including marshall, laney, line 6 etc., but this one is the one I settled on. I could not believe how great the overall quality was for such a great price. If this head is in your price range, hold on for one wild ride!

A great amp for a great price

By BritInvasion

Comments about Vox Valvetronix AD100VTH 100w Guitar Amp Head:

I bought this amp to power a Marshall 2x12 cab playing a Fender Telecaster Deluxe Reissue. I can say that this amplifier is an unqualified winner. I can get so many different sounds out of it that it still blows my mind. Don't make the mistake of comparing this to a cheesy, digital-sounding Line6 in the same price range. Vox has completely changed my opinion of modeling amps. One of the amp models, Boutique CL (CL for "clean") delivers a great clean sound that, with a touch of reverb (built-in) sounds phenomenal. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this amp. It cuts through the mix of a band without being overpowering and really allows you to tweak your sound.
