Vox

The latest amp in the Valvetronix evolution with 99 presets, loads of FX, and more.

The convenient and powerful Valvetronix VT20+ combo amp delivers the guitar sounds sought after by discerning guitarists of every style. With a 12AX7 preamp tube, powerful new amp models, and the unique Power Level control, the VT20 Plus is ready to deliver the response and sound every player needs.

Tube-powered VOX Valve Reactor circuit
Every guitar player seeks the power and playability delivered by a tube amp; the fat drive tone, wide dynamic range, subtle picking nuances, and quick response. After painstaking analysis of guitarists' tastes and preferences, VOX has focused on the importance of the power amp circuit in creating the sonic characteristics long sought from tube amps. The VOX Valve Reactor was developed out of this power amp philosophy. Based on a 12AX7 vacuum tube, the Valve Reactor circuit at the heart of the Valvetronix VT20+ amp perfectly reproduces the operation, subtle nuances, and tonal character of a real tube-powered amp.

More amp models than ever before
The new Valvetronix+ Series boasts an amazing collection of 33 distinct amp models - a new milestone for Valvetronix amplifiers. In addition, the Valvetronix+ represents a giant leap in quality. The preamp EQ features Bass, Middle and Treble controls for precise tone-shaping. Beginning with classic VOX amps such as the AC30, the diverse amp model selection continues to encompass coveted amps from the pages of history, as well as the latest high-gain amps, providing a sound selection that spans the ages. Call up the sound of an old favorite, or experiment with amps you may never have tried - sought-after amps played by your guitar heroes, rare boutique amps, and vintage amps - and pursue unexplored sonic paths.

25 Diverse, high-quality effects
One of the best features of the VOX Valvetronix VT20+ modeling amp is the ability to combine the built-in effects with the onboard amp models to create a complete and powerful sound. Just as with the effects, the VT20+ makes no compromises when it comes to effects, boasting a level of quality that rivals top standalone units. The broad array of effects is divided into two sections: Pedal effects such as distortion, wah, and compressor; and Modulation/Delay effects such as chorus, flanger, and tape echo. In each section, there are 11 effects to choose from. Featuring easy-to-use settings, you can simultaneously select the effect type and adjust its parameters. In addition, there are three types of Reverb (Room, Spring, and Hall). With the addition of Noise Reduction, up to four different effects can be used at the same time.

99 Preset programs
The musicians at VOX have put together 99 preset programs for the VT20+, expertly voiced and ready for immediate use. Each of the 33 amp models provides three presets: Basic, Effected, and Song. An Effected preset calls up the correct combination of effect type and setting for a particular style.

Song presets are just like Effected presets; each one is a faithful recreation of the signature sound used by a famous guitarist to perform one of their classic tracks. Of course you're also free to edit any preset - or start from scratch with the manual setting - and save up to eight of your own custom sounds to the User presets.

Beyond the numbers
One of the greatest advances from previous Valvetronix models is the astounding sense of power generated by the VT20+. The power amp section has the potential to significantly exceed the wattage value indicated by the model name - as indicated by the shaded section of the Power Level knob. The new Valvetronix+ Series also feature a newly re-voiced VOX original design speaker that is sure to amaze you with a powerful sound that you would not expect from a chassis and speaker of this size. These fine Valvetronix+ amplifiers genuinely deliver sonic power that cannot be expressed by mere numbers.

Seize the power
The sense of drive produced in the tube power stage is what defines the inimitably fat and warm tone that's at the core of a great guitar amp sound. Our tube-driven Valve Reactor circuitry is at the heart of recreating this sound. Volume, Gain, and Master Volume controls provide key levels of controlling your gain to achieve a wealth of clean, overdriven and distorted sounds. In addition, these new Valvetronix+ Series amplifiers feature an altogether unique Power Level control. By lowering the Power Level, it's possible to achieve high levels of gain and distortion at any listening level. And, as was mentioned above, reserve power can also be dialed in using the Power Level control when you really need your amp to scream. The Power Level control allows you to take full advantage of the Valvetronix+ Series potential in any situation.

Convenient and versatile input and output
The headphone out jack can also be used as a direct line output. This output is equipped with the simulated response and character of a speaker cabinet, so you'll enjoy the natural spatial sense of playing through speakers, even when using headphones or when connected to a mixer or recording system. Plug your CD or MP3 player into the AUX input jack and enjoy jamming along with your favorite songs. In addition, the tuning function needed by every guitarist is built in, eliminating the need for a separate tuner.

Optional VFS5 footswitch operation
Plug in the optional VFS5 footswitch and use your feet to switch programs, turn the reverb and other effects on/off, and control their speed, providing additional options for sonic creativity and live performance power.

Every time I go to a music store to try out a guitar, I plug into one of these. So, I was delighted to find this under the Christmas tree. The sounds from this amp are magnificent. You can do anything with it. I have yet to gig with it, but I intend on hauling this bad boy on stage with me ASAP. I'm not too worried about the 8" speaker as this thing sounds tremendously huge. Lots of sound from this little guy. The tone is immense. For the price, this cannot, in anyway be beat. If you have a tiny budget, any VT series Vox amp is worth checking out. I would take this over anything else in this price range. There's just no comparison.

All I would do to improve this amp would be to separate the modulation effects from the delay effects so as to be able to control them separately with the foot switch. Also, it could do with more user preset patches. Otherwise, this amp is an absolute godsend!!!

I recently decided to move up from my Line 6 Spider IV 15, which is just a lousy amp. I was looking for a versatile, mid-sized amp with a warm tone, and preferably modeling capability. I did a lot of research and a/b playing, and settled on the Vox VT20+. First off, let me say that the features on this amp are fantastic. 33 amp models, 99 presets, 22 pedals in two banks, 3 reverbs, and 8 user channels. The attenuator, master volume and channel volume allow you to dial in that crunchy tube breakup, and clean or distorted tones sound great and organic. I don't play metal, but found applications for even the nine "metal" models on this amp.Unfortunately, this amp has a serious hiss problem, one I didn't notice in the noisy Guitar Center where I played a demo. On every channel, there is low-level background hiss. When you strike a note, the hiss jumps to meet the volume, then trails off as the note dies. The nature of the problem means that the louder you're playing (i.e., the more people you're playing for) the worse the problem gets. I found it debilitating. On fast playing, it makes you sound sloppy, and on slow, sustained notes, it is absolutely agonizing. I have now played five separate units of the VT20+, and one VT40+. Every single one had this hiss. It's heartbreaking, because the amp is excellent in every other respect. Sturdy, sounds great, lots of tones and effects...a real shame it has this problem. Luckily, the guy I bought it from is a good sport, and he's crediting me the cost so I can switch to a Fender Mustang II--definitely my second choice, but no hiss. If you don't think you'd mind the hiss, then go ahead and buy this amp. For me, it was a real issue. I'd definitely play this in person before you buy it.

Reverb is okay, but other effects are lousy. Way way too too noisy (white noise, hissing)...I'm returning it. I liked the tones and amp models, but the noisiness was too distracting.

Comments about Vox Valvetronix VT20+ 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Just received it today (the 20W) and LOVE it. Modeling amps have come a long way and the pre amp tube etc makes so many sounds..sound dreamy perfect. Not ALL the sounds are perfect but my goodness dozens are IDEAL. I'm getting the multi foot switch to change patches easier but I am IN LOVE with this thing. For bedroom, home studio and smaller gigs it's PLENTY CRAZY LOUD and mic'd for a bigger gig will sound authoritative, sweet bright, heavy crunchy saturated as you require. Dial in a HUGE range of tones, and the effects are surprisingly accurate and sexy. The "song" tones are so good you switch one in and instantly start sounding like your favorite guitarist. And so small and light... perfect!!!!

What a bargain for the price. So many different sounds and effects. I have read some bad reviews but decided to pull the trigger anyway. I don't have any buzz or noise that I had previously read about. I enjoy plugging in my headphones and playing with the different sounds that this bad boy can produce. All of the models don't have the same gain but that's no problem cause you can adjust easily with the guitar volume. My Les Paul sounds great with this little Vox.

A great amp for those just starting to play. If you want to know what a tube amp is all about, this gives you some idea without spending allot of money. If you don't read the manual and learn how to use the noise gate properly, you might find the hum on most amp models unbearable. If you want to play along with an mp3 or whatever, use good head phones or run the H/P jack through a stereo. You won't be disappointed. Vox gave me a wonderful amp for a great price.

This is a great sounding modeling amp. Both the models and effects sound good. I particularly like the Cali-Clean and US blues models for blues and blues-rock. It is not the absolute easiest amp to use, but with a little work, it becomes manageable.
