Comments about Warwick BC80 80W 1x12 Bass Combo w/2" Horn:
I would one day like to meet Jonas Helborg just to shake his hand for helping to create a line of combo amps (the BC series) that do for an electric bass what only a bass player with a very discerning ear and knowledge of audio technology could finally do. I now own both the BC80 and the BC150 and am a very happy guy!
The sound produced by these combo amps is the cleanest I have ever heard. The tone is full, focused and smooth. All of the 4 EQ knobs actually affect discernible differences when moved even the slightest amount; I can't say that for any other amp I've ever used. Somehow unwanted note overtones that I used to get with other amps are no longer there.
With 80 watts and a 12" speaker this unit can do the job for a small combo gig or be a great bedroom practice amp. I use it with fretted, fretless and acoustic bass guitars.
The aux input and headphone jack both take mini-plugs which is so much more convenient than using a 1/4" adapter like I had to with my former SWR and Genz Benz amps. The MP3's play beautifully balanced through it allowing a fun jam along, with or without headphones.
The build quality is excellent and I appreciate having the handle on top of the unit. The one thing that I'd like to see them change though is the power switch which is at the back of the cabinet near the floor. It would be more convenient on the control panel in the front.
And best of all, I no longer need either my compressor pedal or Bass EQ pedal; there is a built in compressor that works great and the onboard EQ knobs dial in my tone perfectly.
I am in serious love with both of my BC amps and I really feel they have made me a better bass player just by instilling me with more confidence in what comes out of my instrument and by adding sheer joy to my playing. I plan to also buy the BC10 (very reasonably priced!) for overseas travel because of its mini size and great tone, for playing in my hotel room.
Phenomenal amps at great prices!
