OVERVIEW

Crunchy distortion goodness with outstanding tweakability.

The Fat Sandwich Distortion represents an advanced era in guitar pedal design for Way Huge. In addition to carrying on the Way Huge tradition of amazing tone and rugged construction, the Fat Sandwich Distortion Pedal delivers heaps of crunchy distortion goodness via its innovative multi-stage clipping circuit. Meticulously designed from the ground up, the passive tone stack was tuned to bring out the "sweet spot" with any guitar and amp combination. The Volume control produces tons of output, making it ideal for driving the headroom out of the most powerful tube amps. Additionally, the Fat Sandwich guitar effect pedal has two internal mini controls: the Curve knob lets the user fine-tune the corner frequency of the overdrive filtering and the Sustain control adjusts the gain of the final distortion stage. The Fat Sandwich is versatile and over the top ” the consummate distortion pedal for any genre of playing style.

Each pedal has been rigorously tested to ensure quality, durability, and reliability and will deliver many years of exceptional performance. All Way Huge guitar pedals feature: heavy-duty footswitch with quiet relay-based true bypass, blue LED indicator, 2.1mm power jack with AC protection, easy access (non-detachable) battery door, super-duty .09 aluminum anodized chassis, high grade components, great tone and cool name.

Launched in 1992 by Jeorge Tripps, Way Huge Electronics began as a result of Tripps' search for great tone, and his desire to perform with reliable, rugged and pedal board-friendly effects that had the magic of his coveted vintage pedals. The very first pedal ” simply labeled "Fuzz Box" ” was quickly followed by such staples to the product line as the Red Llama Overdrive, Foot Pig Fuzz and Green Rhino Overdrive II, which quickly found their way into the hands and onto the pedal boards of the world's guitar elite. Ensuing years would see the introduction of pedals such as the Swollen Pickle Jumbo Fuzz, Aqua-Puss Analog Delay, and the Saffron Squeeze. Over the span of a few years, Tripps helped revolutionize what would later be known as the 'boutique' effects market. In late December 1999, the company closed its doors as Tripps pursued other opportunities, sending demand for Way Huge products soaring, and driving online auctions well into the hundreds ” sometimes thousands ” for used Way Huge pedals. Now teaming up up with Dunlop, Way Huge pedals will once again be available to the masses, so all can enjoy their finely tuned electronics, high-grade circuitry and road ready construction, built under the watchful eye of Mr. Huge himself.

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE301 Fat Sandwich Harmonic Saturator Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal gives me the exact tone I was looking for. It took me about 10 maybe 15 minutes of tweaking before I got it. I had to crack open the back of the pedal to access some extra knobs for. Once I had it all dialed in it gave me one of the best sounding tone I have ever heard. Its heavy and powerful but its not too distorted and fuzzy. Which was exactly what I wanted.

FAT SANDWICH RULES...

By Marshallman64

from VA

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE301 Fat Sandwich Harmonic Saturator Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Fat Sandwich arrived late yesterday and I ran it through my 3 amps and it was very compatible with them all. I connected it to my Marshall Bluesbreaker RI,(I liked the best tones through this amp), Fender Tone Master w/ 2-12 cab and Marshall JCM 800 2103 w/ 4-12 Jubilee cab last. This pedal will take up permanent residence on my small board as I'll be selling my;Diaz Texas Ranger, Homebrew Power Screamer, original Pro Co rat, English Muffin, Carl Martin Plexitone...you get the picture. I've been playing for 30+ years and played through alot of amp/pedal combinations. This is a very versatile pedal from Hendrix to Halen and cleans up nicely with interaction with your guitar's volume knob. It's been quite awhile since I've ranted about a product.

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE301 Fat Sandwich Harmonic Saturator Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

If you're in doubt whether you have a true distortion box in your arsenal or not this pedal ends that debate. Back off 2 of the small knobs on the inside about a quarter of a turn and this thing sings (leave the 1st knob alone - factory setting) - and you get that "harmonic saturation" that would rip amplifiers apart if they had to do it alone. This is one firey pedal - and the price drop recently was a freak of nature. Really happy with this product - turns your guitar into a flame-thrower. Sweet harmonic and musical feeback (if you want it) and all the howl and rip you could hope for.

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE301 Fat Sandwich Harmonic Saturator Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I'm a hobbyist who has tried quite a few pedals out, but not as many as others. Though, I've never focused on distortion as much as overdrives and fuzzes. I left the three internal trim pots at the factory settings though, I opened it up to check. I used a Spot One power supply and a Kustom Defender 15V with tone 12, 4 watts, bass response all right or British. Fender Am Del Strat w/ SCNs and G&L ASAT Tribute Blue Burst MFDs. I've heard this is supposed to be like a JCM800, and I could see it from my inexperienced perspective. It has tons of volume and a good deal of gain; but you could increase this with the internal trim pot. Not crazy about the small knobs because if you use it as a stand alone pedal, then you'll want to manipulate these some. WHAT I LOVED ABOUT THIS PEDAL WAS THAT IT WAS LIKE A TRANSPARENT DISTORTION. This meant it was versatile and you could play The Beatles to AC/DC to Cream by manipulating the gain. I would say it's a distortion and not an overdrive, but the transparency lends itself to many applications as an overdrive allows. I could see using this as a stand alone pedal for practice all the time due to the transparency. I would buy another Way Huge Pedal after this purchase. If, you want color or bass, I might look elsewhere, though I believe one of the internal trim pots is for tone. I just felt you might want something darker for certain songs; though, this pedal would likely sound good no matter depending upon your other equipment.

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE301 Fat Sandwich Harmonic Saturator Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have to admit, out of the box I wasn't too thrilled with the factory settings. Then I realized I had to hold the mayonnaise with my Fat Sandwich. In order to hold the mayo I had to open up the back & adjust the trimpot to dial down stage 2 gain, a lot. There is a lot of gain available in this device. An interesting thing is that when I was trying this out, I thought it sounded reminiscent of Craig Anderton's Tube Sound Fuzz in his book Electronic Projects For Musicians, a project which I have built & used several times. This project features the CD4049 CMOS Hex Inverter, a digital chip used in an unconventional analog fashion. When I opened up the case to adjust the trimpots, lo and behold, a CD4049 was there, along with additional circuitry. There is definitely a diode clipping circuit in there in addition to the 4049. Other trimpots are useful for dialing in the overall tone. Once I had dialed everything I was satisfied. On the cons category I had to add that my first unit completely died the very first day I used it, came back after a 2 hour break & it just wouldn't work anymore. Musician's Friend was very good at sending a replacement, & my 2nd unit continues to work.

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE301 Fat Sandwich Harmonic Saturator Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

With this pedal you can dial in a great range of distortion from fuzzy overdrive type distortion to just barely clipping. I have several great tube amps that have excellent high gain distortion, but this thing isn't just for dirtying up your clean channel. If you want to take your amp from, say, a highly overdriven Marshall tone to something completely different by stomping on this pedal you can get there. My point is that you can get a wide range of distorted sounds while still using your drive channel(s). Plays nice in the sandbox with others.

Best distortion pedal I've ever owned and I've had some good ones.

      FOUND IT!!

      By Failing Words Band

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE301 Fat Sandwich Harmonic Saturator Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I recently bought a '77 Les Paul Standard and wasn't happy with the sound I was getting out of my old pedals (especially my Boss Overdrive Pedal - the Orange one). After doing some "research" I decided to buy this pedal. I went immediately down to a rehearsal studio so I could really test the pedal out, and within five minutes I had a big smile on my face. My '77 LP Standard sounds killer through this pedal. I've found the tone I knew I could get from this guitar, but hadn't been able to with my old setup. This pedal is quiet, has tons of boost and can drive an amp to sound like a woman in bed, or a rabid bear (what I imagine a rabid bear to sound like in any event.)Anyone who says they can't find the "sweet spot" with this pedal, clearly doesn't know how to properly utilize the volume and tone knobs on their guitar.Highly recommended!(P.S. A compression sustainer before this pedal makes a killer combo, bringing out a little feedback and crushing the amp into submission!)

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE301 Fat Sandwich Harmonic Saturator Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Fat sandwich has tons of distortion. I like the fact that I can get plenty of distortion at low volumes. A lot of the clubs I play are small. I can't really turn up loud. If I keep my amp volume down at 2 or 3, I can turn my guitar volume up almost all the way. Then you can adjust the distortion and volume on the sandwich to your liking. It sound great on classic rock. I find thought that I have to adjust the sandwich on every job. I haven't got into the inside adjustment yet. It doesn't sound the same at any two places. I use a Fender Stratocaster through a 68 fender vibrolux. I really love this pedal. Tons of room to adjust the sound you want. My next purchase will be the Swollen Pickle.

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE301 Fat Sandwich Harmonic Saturator Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I bought this pedal to replace my MXR Doubleshot distortion. It was well worth it! Not only is there knobs for adjustment on the outside, but also on the inside too. Doesn't do metal, but it gets close. Hard rock tones from the 70's and 80's. It's built well and worth the money.
