Crunchy distortion goodness with outstanding tweakability.

The Fat Sandwich Distortion represents an advanced era in guitar pedal design for Way Huge. In addition to carrying on the Way Huge tradition of amazing tone and rugged construction, the Fat Sandwich Distortion Pedal delivers heaps of crunchy distortion goodness via its innovative multi-stage clipping circuit. Meticulously designed from the ground up, the passive tone stack was tuned to bring out the "sweet spot" with any guitar and amp combination. The Volume control produces tons of output, making it ideal for driving the headroom out of the most powerful tube amps. Additionally, the Fat Sandwich guitar effect pedal has two internal mini controls: the Curve knob lets the user fine-tune the corner frequency of the overdrive filtering and the Sustain control adjusts the gain of the final distortion stage. The Fat Sandwich is versatile and over the top — the consummate distortion pedal for any genre of playing style.

Each pedal has been rigorously tested to ensure quality, durability, and reliability and will deliver many years of exceptional performance. All Way Huge guitar pedals feature: heavy-duty footswitch with quiet relay-based true bypass, blue LED indicator, 2.1mm power jack with AC protection, easy access (non-detachable) battery door, super-duty .09 aluminum anodized chassis, high grade components, great tone and cool name.

Launched in 1992 by Jeorge Tripps, Way Huge Electronics began as a result of Tripps' search for great tone, and his desire to perform with reliable, rugged and pedalboard-friendly effects that had the magic of his coveted vintage pedals. The very first pedal — simply labeled "Fuzz Box" — was quickly followed by such staples to the product line as the Red Llama Overdrive, Foot Pig Fuzz and Green Rhino Overdrive II, which quickly found their way into the hands and onto the pedalboards of the world's guitar elite. Ensuing years would see the introduction of pedals such as the Swollen Pickle Jumbo Fuzz, Aqua-Puss Analog Delay, and the Saffron Squeeze. Over the span of a few years, Tripps helped revolutionize what would later be known as the 'boutique' effects market. In late December 1999, the company closed its doors as Tripps pursued other opportunities, sending demand for Way Huge products soaring, and driving online auctions well into the hundreds — sometimes thousands — for used Way Huge pedals. Now teaming up up with Dunlop, Way Huge pedals will once again be available to the masses, so all can enjoy their finely tuned electronics, high-grade circuitry and road ready construction, built under the watchful eye of Mr. Huge himself.

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE301 Fat Sandwich Harmonic Saturator Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal can give you many different tones depending on your guitars volume control and picking style.I set my guitars volume to about 6.5 then set up a crunch tone on the Fat Sandwich. When I turn up my volume all the way my tone gets way huge(the name says it all). This pedal may take a lot of tweeking so be patient. If used properly it can produce a very brown sound.Great buy

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE301 Fat Sandwich Harmonic Saturator Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is a nice distortion pedal. I had loaded a DS-1 and TS-9 on my board because I could't really decide if "distortion" or "overdrive" was what worked for me. My goal is one pedal. This pedal is rally in between. It has aspects of distortion and overdrive. But unlike the classics in either category you can set the breakup and then adjust tone without really changing the overall character of the main effect. And it has a elegant articulation that just seems to put it in a category of its own. Pedal has a huge range in term soy familiar places. so it took me about 2 hours to find my sweet spot.

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE301 Fat Sandwich Harmonic Saturator Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

The build quality of this pedal is amazing. It is literally built like a tank. I have a number of boutique pedals and this one is definitely the best quality in terms of durability.

The sound is fantastic, I've been able to dial in some awesome high gain 80's sounds (which is why I bought it) on the clean channel of my tube amp. If you are looking for a versatile high gain pedal, this one fits the bill. The extra tone knobs give you a huge range of sounds, none of which sound muddy.

If you want low gain/overdrive sound, this is not the pedal for you. On its lowest gain setting with single coil pickups, you still get a fully distorted signal. I love it, but a clean boost / low overdrive pedal this is not.

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE301 Fat Sandwich Harmonic Saturator Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Another really nice pedal from Way Huge. Excellent construction quality and sound. Really fat "brown sound". The only downside is it's not too versatile. At the lowest settings, it's still pretty distorted, and at it's highest settings it might not be enough for metal guys. Perfect for classic rock, heavier electric blues, and garage rock. Sounds great in front of a clean tube amp.

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE301 Fat Sandwich Harmonic Saturator Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

If you're in doubt whether you have a true distortion box in your arsenal or not this pedal ends that debate. Back off 2 of the small knobs on the inside about a quarter of a turn and this thing sings (leave the 1st knob alone - factory setting) - and you get that "harmonic saturation" that would rip amplifiers apart if they had to do it alone. This is one firey pedal - and the price drop recently was a freak of nature. Really happy with this product - turns your guitar into a flame-thrower. Sweet harmonic and musical feeback (if you want it) and all the howl and rip you could hope for.

Through my rig, this pedal nailed Billy Gibbons' tone on Tush. Harmonic saturator is right--the pedal is well named. Lots of spongy harmonics on tap. Not the tone I was looking for, so I returned it, but I could see applications for it.

Comments about Way Huge Electronics WHE301 Fat Sandwich Harmonic Saturator Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have to admit, out of the box I wasn't too thrilled with the factory settings. Then I realized I had to hold the mayonnaise with my Fat Sandwich. In order to hold the mayo I had to open up the back & adjust the trimpot to dial down stage 2 gain, a lot. There is a lot of gain available in this device. An interesting thing is that when I was trying this out, I thought it sounded reminiscent of Craig Anderton's Tube Sound Fuzz in his book Electronic Projects For Musicians, a project which I have built & used several times. This project features the CD4049 CMOS Hex Inverter, a digital chip used in an unconventional analog fashion. When I opened up the case to adjust the trimpots, lo and behold, a CD4049 was there, along with additional circuitry. There is definitely a diode clipping circuit in there in addition to the 4049. Other trimpots are useful for dialing in the overall tone. Once I had dialed everything I was satisfied. On the cons category I had to add that my first unit completely died the very first day I used it, came back after a 2 hour break & it just wouldn't work anymore. Musician's Friend was very good at sending a replacement, & my 2nd unit continues to work.
