Comments about Whirlwind Selector A/B Box:

I had an older version of this pedal, with the mini plug power inlet, this version has a standard Boss type (2.1mm) inlet, and when you select the both setting whichever A/B was active before, will blink, so that way, when you come out of it, you'll know just where you'll be. So your using the A side of this pedal then select the both option, but when you come out of that you want the B side, just hit the A/B button, the B side LED will blink, while you in the both mode, as soon as you push the both button, you'l now be on the B side. It's a good feature especially for peformance. Hope this provide some insight.

    Perfect Direct Box

    By Mick

    from Massachusetts

Comments about Whirlwind Selector A/B Box:

Does exactly what it's supposed to do.
Rugged, all the inputs and outputs you'll need to run 2 amps simultaneously.
Completely quiet with absolutely no signal loss.
This is an expensive piece of hardware--but looks like it should last your entire career.

    Great Switcher

    By Jeremy Dewall

    from Minnesota

Comments about Whirlwind Selector A/B Box:

Overall this pedal is fantastic, especially for my application. I wanted a pedal that was quiet, didn't distort my signal literally at all, and didn't have a latency when switching channels. This pedal does exactly that perfectly. I have a Sennheiser wireless reciever unit for my guitar (Which is a Les Paul) that has 2 outputs on it. I am running one into channel A and one into a Dunlop Wah Pedal and then into Channel B. I have one cable going from the single output on the pedal to my Marshall 210h. I found the tone I fell in love with on my amp and when I added a wah pedal to my chain I noticed that it just wasn't the same since the wah, even when bypassed, distorted my signal a little bit. You can see now that I wanted a switcher that had almost literally no distortion at all since the little bit by my wah pedal was enough to make me want to spend some money just to get rid of that little bit of distortion. There is literally almost no signal distortion or noise with this switcher. I understand that you can run it in the opposite direction than I am using it to have 1 signal source and split the signal to 2 seperate destinations. This seems more common than what I am using it for. I think I am using it in a way that would be considered "backward" of usual but it works flawlessly never the less. One really cool feature for me is the ability to select BOTH which combines the two signals into one output. If you had 1 input and 2 outputs, this would send the signal to both destinations at the same time. This pedal could be used as a combiner, switcher, splitter, or even a gate to send a signal without a destination for use when moving cables around without getting any popping and banging if you wanted to. Since I have 2 almost identical signals going through it when I use the BOTH option, the level is identical to using just one channel, which is really convenient when you are playing live. I could see how not having 2 of the same signals at the same time could cut your level down so be aware of that. I can use the BOTH option to have a flat signal with a wah signal so the result is like a wah with half the intensity. This is really cool if you want to use your wah for like a phase of flanger style effect that you can control manually, which I like to do. The BOTH effect mixes the signals makes it more subtle which is really cool. The only thing that I am not sure about is ease of switching batteries because I use the power supply with mine and haven't even had the back cover off.
The ability to switch between A, B, and BOTH channels is really cool to have. You really are getting a switcher, combiner, and splitter all in one.
MXR pedals which have a really stiff button that it almost to hard to push and makes it easy to miss when trying to engage it. BOSS pedals have almost a lazy feel to them in my opinion since the whole front plate moves. This pedal feels right like a perfect sweetspot in between the two. With this pedal, the buttons are easy to push but still firm enough so that you know you pushed it successfully without having to worry about not engaging because you didn't press it hard enough. (This is the same way the footswitch for my Marshall 210h feels also) The LED lights are super easy to tell which channels are on without blinding you. There is no guessing with this. It looks and feels super solid too, not cheap or weak at all.
I'm giving value a 9 because you really are getting the benefits of having a switcher, combiner, and splitter all in one but the price for such a simple pedal might be a little bit steep for all it does but you definately get what you pay for with this almost silent pedal. That being said, if I ever had trouble with this pedal, I would replace it with another one immediately.

    Life Saver!

Comments about Whirlwind Selector A/B Box:

This thing is built pretty solid. I've had various liquids spilled on it and had it stepped on and thrown around. Had equipment fall on it and it still works really well. I've done over 45 shows with it and used it for an equal amount of practices and still doing fine with the 1st 9v battery I put in. It is completely noiseless when switching. And it doesnt affect the sound what so ever. I only put a 4.0 on value because it seems a little spendy for what it does. But I'd buy it again no questions asked. The 2 problems I noticed which is my own fault is that the buttons are a little close together when rocking out and jumping around on stage and you need to do an on the fly switch from amps. (my own fault though) and 2nd issue is that if its not bolted down to your pedal board it gets pulled along with the cables fairly easy and will move around on stage.

    A+B Mode decreases signal strength!

    By ElmoMich

    from Seattle, WA

Comments about Whirlwind Selector A/B Box:

I bought this pedal for use on a Keyboard & a Synth. I use my Korg SP-300 to control my Korg X50 Synth, and both have their own output (so that I can combine the sounds when I want to, or play them separately via my stage piano & this switch). One annoying problem I have found with this and other switches like it is that when you try to use the "BOTH" mode, it significantly reduces the signal strength of both inputs. For those of you guitar players who use it simply as an "A or B switch", you will never encounter this problem... But if you try to blend 2 inputs, you will lose volume in both, and you will send a sound/mixer technician crazy trying to re-adjust you during a gig... If this is your intention, you should probably get 2 of the AB-2 2-way switches.A OR B = GREAT PRODUCTA AND B TOGETHER = NO-GO

    Addendum

    By Rayplayguitar

Comments about Whirlwind Selector A/B Box:

I wrote before about not being able to find an power adapter--turns out that Whirlwind was able to point to the right place to order one. I still find it a little irksome that they aren't easier to find but just wanted to at least give Whirlwind some credit for tracking down the T401-ND power adapter.

    Well Done Whirlwind!

    By Brother Dave-MLJxZ

    from Albemarle NC

Comments about Whirlwind Selector A/B Box:

Use decent quality cables & it is transparent. I use it to switch between 2 basses into my pedal board. The Selector is the most expensive of 4 A/B units I've used BUT works exactly like the others claim they do but in reality don't. The others are junk. It is noiseless in operation & very durable. The power jack on this pedal is the 2 conductor AUDIO STYLE MINI-PLUG and not the usual stubby power adapter connector on most wall warts. If you want an A/B switch that works like it should, here it is. WELL DONE WHIRLWIND!
