Magical flexibility, signal quality, and ease of use, specifically for acoustic guitar.
The Yamaha Magicstomp Acoustic Guitar Processor gives you superb effects for acoustic instruments. It's great for recording or direct into the PA. Designed especially for acoustic guitarists, Yamaha's Magicstomp Acoustic delivers a wide variety of powerful sounds and effects for studio and stage. Featuring 99 custom factory and artist presets, an automatic feedback eliminator, and a chromatic tuner, the new Magicstomp Acoustic also boasts microphone and speaker simulations, a headphone jack for private monitoring, and an interactive software based editor. In addition to a load of effects, Magicstomp Acoustic also boasts sounds from Yamaha's award-winning DG, AG, and UD Stomp pedals, as well as their timeless SPX series of professional effects processors--all in a footprint the size of a portable CD player.
The 99 factory preset sounds can be edited and then stored in any of the 99 user locations, in any order. Any 3 patches can be assigned to the Magicstomp Acoustic's heavy-duty footswitches for instant recall. The editor allows you to allocate any 3 parameter functions to the top-mounted control knobs (delay time, feedback, and mix, for example), facilitating on-the-fly adjustments -- made easy on dark stages by the backlit LCD display.
The key to Magicstomp Acoustic's power lies under the hood: a 24-bit A/D converter keeps your signal pristine, and a 32-bit DSP engine preserves the integrity of multi-effect chains. The Magicstomp Acoustic brings astounding clarity, punch, and definition to your guitar sound. In addition to its built-in programming flexibility, you can easily customize Magicstomp Acoustic by linking it to your computer with the included USB cable. Within seconds of installing the included software on your PC or Mac, you'll be navigating through the Magicstomp Acoustic's editor. From simple level changes to compressor and EQ tweaking, the intuitive nature of the interface makes it easy to go as deep as your ears and imagination will take you. If you don't have access to a computer, all parameters on the Magicstomp Acoustic are accessible from the control panel of the unit itself.
The Magicstomp Acoustic's power will continue to grow for years to come. You can update and reconfigure your Magicstomp Acoustic via a constantly evolving database of artist and user patches found at www.magicstomp.com. Great sounds, but there is no dedicated mix knob. There is a presence knob assignment on some setting, but still is hard to get a proper mix on an acoustic. It's usually too wet. The only way to use it is through an aux on a board. Overall it a really well made, great sounding useless pedal.
Man! This pedal has just about everything. Easy to mix sound via the computer interface (not so easy - manually on the pedal). The ability to program some live adjustments is cool. The instruction manual is a little vague. Need a way to copy the presets to the user programs to fine tune and save (you have to scroll through the manual settings on the pedal and copy down them down). A power switch would be nice. The web site is nice for downloading some user settings, however, not many acoustic guitar settings are available yet. The unit is bomb proof. I belive you have a winner here.
Great sound quality and easy to use.I've been performing for over 12 years and I have hated the piezo sound. Finally, this box makes my life MUCH more enjoyable!Doesn't matter what guitar you have (unless it is falling apart at the frets) it will sound good!It has brought back to life, several of my acoustics, that I would have never thought I would put on stage!Great purchase for me!
There aren?t many effect boxes specifically made for acoustic guitars. I found four models in the market: Toneworks PX4A, Alesis AcoustiFX, Boss AD8 and Yamaha Magicstomp Acoustic. All of them are based on electric guitar effect boxes with some additions or replacements in features for acoustics, such as notch filter for feedback reduction and preset effects for acoustics. For the purpose of adding effects to a guitar signal, we can use almost any other electric guitar effect box. But we will have to find the right effect settings ourselves. For the purpose of toning an acoustic guitar signal, we need a special direct box such as Fishman Aura. I needed an effect box.Comparing all four models mentioned above, I picked Yamaha. It has the simplest operation and the most functionality among the four. The price was at par with others except Alesis, but I felt that the design, built and features were worth spending a little extra in the long run. After spending a few hours playing, I am very satisfied with Magicstomp. Out of the box, plug it in, and it sounded clean. I used Ovation 1861 with Op30 preamp and Fishman Loudbox Performer, placing the Magicstomp in the effects loop. I like the solid construction and the old-fashioned foot switches. I checked all 99 presets, and several of them sounded just right without adjusting. I used companion software that came with it to upload electric guitar effects in the 99 user patches. I plugged my Stratocaster and put it in a PA system, and wow, it just replaced my old effect boxes entirely. My only complaint is the built-in tuner. It did not pick up B and high E well. I guess I won?t be using this feature, but I wish it worked better. Nonetheless, I highly recommend this product.
I've used Yamaha products for a while and figured the quality would be great. I ordered on Monday and had the Magicstomp AG plugged in on Wednesday afternoon. Lots of interesting stuff packed into this little box. My only problem is that loading the software could be a little more user friendly. Otherwise I like my new Acoustic Stompbox.
