I've owned this bass amp for a couple of years and since bass isn't my first instrument, I couldn't justify spending a ton of cash on a flashier name brand. Luckily I needn't have worried. A lot of bassists have used that amp and came away extremely impressed with its colour and tone. I don't run any effects - compressor etc - just whatever that amp (and my bass) provides and I haven't wanted for anything. The sound is very clean and I've never heard even a peep of distortion from this workhorse.
I am deaf in one ear and found after I lost my hearing that I had to forgo playing with my fingers as I just couldn't get my bass amp clear enough or loud enough to hear my playing. When I bought the XM100 I was able to adjust the scoop to provide the frequency that my hearing could pull out of the mix and have been able to go back to fingers!
For most of the gigs I've done - rock, pop, funk, blues, metal, country gigs - I haven't had to have this amp cranked beyond 5 on stage. I should say that most of the gigs are in smaller venues - (200 people +) and outside gigs.
I've used this amp direct for recording and have been very pleased with the results. The engineer didn't have to do much at all and we all agreed it was a crystal clear signal, no noise and warm and punchy with great depth. He actually said that he felt he should be doing more to look important but the sound was so great right off the bat that he just needed a little tweak. Home recording with this is also a breeze thanks to the XLR DI.
Any bass amp is just a vessel for the instrument you're plugging into it - garbage in = garbage out, so it does pay off to have a quality instrument with quality pups plugged in to begin with. That's 90% of the battle right there. With the XM100 in your corner alongside a good instrument, you'll be definitely making sounds that will be music to your ears and to your wallet.

This is my first bass amp and it is awesome. Smooth operating controls, very clean sound, loud and wide range of controls and a super heavy-duty package, how can you go wrong with this unit? Also, 10 year transferable warranty!
Yorkville makes great amps and you can't beat the warranty. Very sturdy. Good tone.
