OVERVIEW

An amp simulator and bass effects pedal with every conceivable sound at the twist of a knob and stomp of a button.

Zoom's B3 Bass Effects and Amp Simulator combines the ease of a stompbox pedal board with the power of a multi-effects processor and a USB audio interface. With complete control over individual effects and amp modeling, you can change your tones on the fly for both stage and studio.

Three stomps. One pedal.
The B3 offers three large LCD displays and corresponding footswitches that form a graphical interface, allowing you to utilize up to three stompbox and amp effects simultaneously. The interface has also been simplified with three control knobs for each display. This intuitive design makes creating, saving and rearranging the effect chain of your sounds a breeze and provides easy navigation in live and studio settings.

Evolution of tube amp simulation.
A newly developed sigmoid curve clipper re-creates the smooth clipping of a tube amp's waveform. From the warm, fat sound of R&B to the intense, aggressive tone of metal, the B3 can simulate amplifier sounds that are authentic to the original models while maintaining the nuances of fingering and picking techniques.

Super-real amp modeling.
The B3's 12 super-real amp models range from vintage to the latest trends in amp technology, each with its own distinct cabinet modeling that can be used to alter its tone characteristics. By combining different amplifiers and cabinets, you can digitally create your own custom rig. The B3's modeling technology provides the best tone for both live performance and direct recording.

[Modeled bass amplifiers]
AMPEG SVT / FENDER BASSMAN 100 / HARTKE HA3500 / SWR SM-900 / AMPEG B-15 / ACOUSTIC 360 / AGUILAR DB750 / POLYTONE MINI BRUITE III / MARSHALL SUPER BASS / GALLIEN KRUEGER 800RB / EDEN WT-800 / MARK BASS LITTLE MARK III

The B3 offers 99 diverse types of stompbox effects, including some of the world's most popular bass pedals and rack-mounted processors. You can use up to three effects in any combination, as well as its high-quality stereo tube presets and bass synthesizers. It also includes patches personally designed by four of the world's top bassists: Victor Wooten (Bla Fleck & the Flecktones), David Ellefson (Megadeth), Frank Bello (Anthrax) and Doug Wimbish (Living Colour). In addition, the B3 can store up to 100 of your original creations without a hitch.

The newest generation of DSP: ZFX-IV.
The all-new ZFX-IV DSP effects processor boasts amazing power and clarity, upgrading everything from sound to functionality and operability over previous ZFX versions. By using 32-bit floating-point processing, the B3 can produce amplifier sounds that are more realistic than ever before.

Looper function with 40-second phrase recording/overdubbing.
The B3's Looper capabilities include 40 seconds of phrase recording and overdubbing. The "sound-on-sound" function allows you to layer bass sounds as many times as you want in real time and use looped sounds as simple backing tracks. You can even create a "full band" feel with the built-in drum machine and DSP effects for a live solo.
Note: When the UNDO/REDO function is enabled, the recording time is limited to 20 seconds.

USB audio interface for DAW recording.
The B3 operates as an audio interface, letting you record directly to your computer via USB. All of your sound settings used during rehearsals or live performances can be recorded to your favorite DAW such as the included Steinberg Sequel LE recording software. The pedal's direct monitoring capability eliminates latency issues, assuring realistic studio conditions and hassle-free operation.

Your personal drummer.
Every bassist needs a drummer, and with the B3 you can choose from 40 different rhythm patterns, including 4, 8 and 16-beat, shuffle and many others. The tap key also makes it easy to set the tempo and start a one-man jam session anytime.

Balanced XLR output for DI use.
With its built-in XLR output, you can avoid DI boxes completely and connect the B3 directly to any mixing console to maintain a balanced, high quality signal. Its convenient Pre/Post switch can direct an effected sound to the main outputs while sending the original analog bass guitar signal directly to the XLR output without passing through an A/D converter.

Add a B3 to your pedal board.
The B3 is perfect for use in combination with traditional stompboxes. By adding a B3 to your pedal board, you can decrease the size and complexity of your setup, while expanding your system's effects and modeling capabilities.

Accurate, real-time Tuner function.
The pedal's Tuner function offers smooth, real-time response with precise bass tuning accuracy. Whether you're in the middle of a performance or practicing alone in your room, simply hold down the pedal's center footswitch to start getting your strings back in tune. In addition, the B3's LCD displays and LED indicators make the Tuner easy to see on a dark stage, where you can also mute the output to tune silently.

World's fastest patch change speed: 1ms.
With the B3's amazing 1ms patch change speed, you'll never miss a beat. Change from rhythm playing to a solo in an instant by simply tapping a switch.

Runs on batteries, AC adapter, or USB power.
The B3 can operate on three different power sources: AC adaptor (included), batteries or USB bus power when plugged into your computer. Four AA/LR6 alkaline batteries provide over six hours of continuous use. Whether on stage or in the studio, the B3 gives you reliable power options.

I LOVE the Zoom B3! I recently purchased an Ampeg SVT 410 hlf cabinet and a used Ampeg SVT 450H to power it. No matter how hard I tried, I just could not get the tone I wanted out of my rig. I could not afford to purchase an all-tube Ampeg head or the multitude of effects pedals needed to shape my sound to my liking. I ran across this pedal on MF and discovered that ALL of the pedals that I would like to have were combined in this one single pedal. I mentioned it to my wife and she bought it for our anniversary. BEST GIFT EVER! I'm not big on effects and usually set my EQ pretty much flat so I used the pedal sparingly. With just a couple of effects (Sans-amp, Compressor, and Exciter) I was able to dial in the exact bass tone that I had been searching for all those years. Now my rig sounds like a glassy tube beast that really cuts through the mix. My solid state head is still a solid state head, but with just the right mix of effects from the B3, it now sounds pretty close to the old Tube SVT monsters of yesteryear. I play in both large and small venues and I now receive regular compliments on my tone. Don't get me wrong, when I'm at home, I love playing around with all of the other cool effects and weird sounds that you can get out of this thing, but I mainly just use it to get my "One Sound". I've been playing for years and can tell you that from my experience, this is the best thing to come along for bass players in many years. It's like having a full professional level pedal board in just one small ruggedly built unit. I LOVE it!

Comments about Zoom B3 Bass Effects and Amp Simulator:

I have used this in front of my vintage tube and modern solid state amps, passive American Fenders and Active Alembic. If you like effects, the features and effects this unit brings to bear should cover all of your needs. Solid construction is the first impression right out of the box. The ability to power from AC, batteries, OR USB is a nice touch. Being able to fine tune effects without being overly complicated to the average user is a huge plus. The looper function works great as well. The three displays serve two purposes by not only showing current settings but also providing instructions depending on the feature being used. The drum beats are good, not too many but enough to cover basic practice and impromptu jams.

Comments about Zoom B3 Bass Effects and Amp Simulator:

I have been playing bass casually for a few years now, and decided to look into getting an effects pedal. After looking at varous pedals from Digitech, Boss and Zoom, I decided on the B3, and I have not been disappointed yet.

There is an endless selection of effects and pre-configured patches and they are easily modifiable. The tuner is really easy to get to and use and the XLR out is great.

All in all, this is an awesome pedal and I would strongly reccommend it to anyone.

Comments about Zoom B3 Bass Effects and Amp Simulator:

I'd been using individual effects, but with more live performance recently I have found doing the tap dance with pedals just isn't working. I also need to augment my sounds, getting quick accessible to tones for bass solo spots or have access to some other effects from time to time. So while I love the sound of the individual pedals, there was just overwhelming logic to move to a multi-effects unit.

The Zoom B3 seemed well rated and very reasonably priced, and since my needs were fairly minimal I thought this would be a good bet. On the plus side, the unit is extremely easy to use/program. It totally feels like using effect pedals or amps, and it's easy to either start a sound from scratch or edit a sound that is close to what you want.

I'm also very happy with the individual sounds. I needed a good chorus, and this one has several. I'm also making great use of the auto-wah (one of the best I've ever used) and the model of Xotic Boost, which is awesome. Also surprisingly good are some of the bass synth sounds, and I'm actually using one on a song, which I've never done before.

The unit seems solidly built, and all the switches and controls are highly responsive. Switching from patch to patch is totally seamless so quick changes are no problem.

With only three effect spots, which would have to include any compression, noise reduction, amp modeling and any other effects you want, the unit is somewhat limited. I actually kept my compressor and noise gate pedals, which I leave on all the time. This frees up two spots on the Zoom that would otherwise have been unavailable. So if you want to run a number of effects and want this to be your only unit, you may find this somewhat limiting.

The other thing I don't like so much is that when you are in patch mode, your only controls are up/down for patches. I'm used to having a "bank" of patches available, and it would have been better in my opinion had the three buttons each accesses a patch when in patch mode. Of course, this would mean another switch(s) would be needed to change banks, so I see the logic of this design. But given this, I will likely do most of my work form the "home" mode, giving me the option of turning on/off effects within a patch using one of the three switches. If your sounds need radical change from patch to patch, though, this may not be possible.

Overall this unit meets my needs. I can work around its limitations and it has already simplified my situation so I can focus on playing, and not on which pedals I need to stomp on. The most satisfying thing to me is that the unit sounds great and that I can easily access a wide variety of very good sounds.

Comments about Zoom B3 Bass Effects and Amp Simulator:

I had a digitech rack mount along time ago. I was so frustrated from trying to adjust the parameters and saving the program that I pulled the plug and have been playing straight into the amp for years. Then the guitar player in my band got a zoom and I was impressed. Playing in a cover rock band you need some effects to make the tune sound right and this pedal offers everything you could use. Setting things up the way you like it is easy and I'm 54. Nice pedal for the buck.

I discovered the reason the tuner was tuning my bass sharp - the calibration had somehow gotten changed from being based on 440 Hz to 444 Hz. I changed it back to A-440 and should now be good to go. Changing my rating to 5 stars.

Comments about Zoom B3 Bass Effects and Amp Simulator:

I have a Zoom B2 - nice unit but difficult to program. The B3 seemed much easier to work with especially with the graphic displays. Since I only need a max of three effects + chromatic tuner, I decide to buy the B3 and I'm VERY glad that I did. There are a lot of FX on the B3 that are really good and a few that I didn't like at all - but that's me. I really like the HPS pitch shifter - if you're experienced in working with harmonizers this is really helpful in filling out the sound of a 3 piece band. The unit is well built and solid with XLR out, active/passive switch, an "econ" mode when using batteries, PLUS a USB port and software to program the unit on your computer. The B3 is a great product - I should have gotten one of these when they first came out but at least I have one now.

I bought it for learning the Bass, I wanted the drum effects and metronome and looper. The built in tuner is so easy to use I tune every session versus tuning every few days. The different amp simulators are fun to use and I find myself using a few most often. I will definitely look at these amps when I go bigger. The effects are fun to play with but I don't see myself using them.

If for no other reason, you should consider buying this for use as a pre-amp because the amp/cabinet simulations are just that good. 80% of the effects are spot on and the other 20% are close enough for live work. Holds 100 customizable patches using any combination of 3 simultaneous effects/simulations. You can set up a patch for each song in your setlist if you like. Also great if you use few effects, but like to experiment. The drum machine, looper with overdub capability, and recording software are pretty nice if you want to lay down a quick demo of an idea before you forget it. Hands down, the best bang for the buck I've gotten in any gear purchase over the years.

Comments about Zoom B3 Bass Effects and Amp Simulator:

Just got this and barely scratched the surface. A lot of the effects are similar to just get that out of the way. I believe what I bought it for was to have my opportunity to explore several distortion, delay, filters, and on, and on. The amp models really change things up. That's the big seller for the box. I love that I can choose USB, ac power, or dc along with a pair of headphones to rock out in any environment, no amp needed. The recording software and patches have a pretty good sound quality for under a couple "hundo". No regrets here.
