I just recieved this pedal a few days ago, and I am very impressed. Almost immediately I was suprised by its small size, it makes my boss pedals look big! So that was an awesome bonus since it was going onto my pedal board. Now it also looks really cool as you can see in the picture, but it shinier in real life. So first off I set all the nobs to 12 and tested it with my bogner alchemist and strat plus. Both channels on the pedal sound fantastic! The boost isn't strictly a volume boost, but rather it works as an overdrive that can boost your gain/volume as much as you want. It is effective at making a vintage distortion tone that pushes your amp and seems to add some sustain. The distortion engine side adds another dimension to the sound, adding a very thick more aggressive gain than the boost side. It is a very beefy sound as the other reviewer put it, with a lot of bass, maybe more bass than some would want, but I absolutely love it. My strat has never sounded so fat. In drop D, my strat almost sounded like it had had a humbucker in the bridge! Overall, its a great sounding distortion/boost pedal that is full and clear, not muddy like some other overdrives can sound. It is great for thickening up your solos or adding some chunky rythm to your playing. Its also built solid, compact, and looks great. I know its a little pricy, but its totally worth it. The Box of Rock is a great little pedal!

try MXR overdrive or Modtone dyno drive pedals, they have better tone
I give it 2 stars cause it is not terrible, just not the best tome for hard rock, classic rock, overdrive, if that is what you are looking for, it is actually 2 pedals in one and has a boost option for lead which works fine. Me myself, I dont care for the tone on it, I have played with it for a week and returned it cause I could not get a real good classic rock sound, it sounded either very thin or very fat depending on how you used the controls but I could not get it in between, I have tried many overdrive and rock pedals the one I have to say stands out the best is the Modtone Dyno Drive, give that a try if you are into classic overdrive
its built very well but does not deliver on tone
way overpriced

Comments about ZVex Vexter Box of Rock Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
I've had the BoR for over 2 years. I use it after a ZVex SHO into a Fender Stage 112 SS Amp. Through the Fender's Clean channel, it works best with single coils, not much drive, to sound like a Tele on the edge of breaking. The BoR always sounds too trebly to me through the Clean channel. If I switch to the Dirty channel (very Tube-Screamery by itself), this pedal really comes to life and delivers the Marshall tone as advertised. The Boost feature is very useful, with or w/o dirt. Pedal seems to prefer single coils in any case. I have a PRS guitar with coil taps, and I use the BoR with both single - and bucker configs.

Had to mess around w it a little before I found the sweet spots.
I like it.
Although you can dial up the dirt, it still stays somewhat clean/transparent.
The clean boost feature is nice to use on it's own or to push you above the mix.

Comments about ZVex Vexter Box of Rock Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
A friend recommended I get one and I can't thank him enough. Not only is the quality of the sound tasty, but the boost opportunity really takes the pedal to the next level. I am running it into and H & K Tubemeister which frankly didn't need any help in sounding great, but I am really glad I added this pedal to my set up as it really is an upgrade. -JVV

Comments about ZVex Vexter Box of Rock Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
I loved Davey Knowles's live tone with Back Door Slam; He uses one & I had to have one. When trying one out in a music store the sales staff came running to check out that great sound. Box of Rock, Fender Blues De Ville, Slash Les Paul = tone heaven. The salesman said he was getting one on payday! Clapton's bluesbreakers tone!

Comments about ZVex Vexter Box of Rock Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
I have owned the pedal for close to 3 years (unit #0049). I'll keep it short and to the point. The descriptions offered by the other reviewers are spot on. The Boost option (I use it for solos as I don't trust the sound guy to read my mind) really adds to this pedal's value. Service from ZVEX is great as well. The only problem I had with my pedal was I had a faulty circuit on the boost side, which they replaced for the cost of shipping, even when it was beyond warranty! Only other minor criticism is that this model does not offer the 3 way bass toggle switch offered on the new Zvex Distortron (stand alone BOR w/o boost). you will notice a bit more low end when you switch on/off between your clean channel, but then again, I bought the pedal to be beefy, so it's more a comment than a criticism. though I have not tried it myself, I have heard consistent comments that this pedal does not sound quite as good when paired with some fender amps. Bottom line, if I lost it, I would be definitely buy it again.
Comments about ZVex Vexter Box of Rock Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
I usually wait about two weeks to a month before I write a review on a product but this pedal, the Zvex Box Of Rock is simply astounding. The case is top drawer being not only beautiful to look at but very sturdy. But honestly the looks don't mean a thing if the tone's not there. I can't tell what good or bad tone is,it's subjective and relative. My comparison is a Fulltone GT-500 and a Tech-21 XXL. While both of these work very well for me the BoR has a huge fat, warm and meaty sound to it. I can finally use the volume control on my Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster to good effect. It cleans up in very nice way and the boost is very transparent. I run my guitar into a Dunlop wah, then a BBE Soul Vibe then into the BoR, then into my other distortions, fuzzes, a MXR Micro amp as well as a Phase 90, ISP Noise reduction, Electro Harmonix Electric Mistress and finally a TC electronics Nova delay and Nova Reverb. The signals (stereo) goes into two Epiphone Valve Jr. heads. My main complaint before I got the BoR was that the tone was ,well it's very hard to describe but I didn't know what I was missing until I added the Box of Rock into my rig. Now it sounds and feels complete and did I mention how quiet it is? I better stop I'll probably start gushing again. I highly recommend this pedal for anyone. I can't wait to use it on stage cranked.

I have gone through a ton of pedals and spent a lot of money to get here, but this pedal is the one. I bought a jekyll and hyde pedal and sent it back, I bought a satchurator and no longer use it. This pedal destroys them all.Save up your pennies and just get this one, you won't be disappointed.
Comments about ZVex Vexter Box of Rock Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
The point of this box is to give you the sound of a classic driven Marshall amp. I haven't had a classic Marshall amp, so I tested this by seeing if this box could make a Fender strat in bridge pickup mode get tone like Andy Summers. And it can! So yes, this does what it says it does. Now to the box: it's the most versatile disto/OD pedal I've played. It really sounds good at almost any setting. You can give yourself a clean boost, or a subtle overdrive at low gain settings, or roaring nasty crunch at high gain. If you turn both the disto and the boost knobs on, it gives you beastly hard rock distortion that begs for AC/DC power chords. The tone knob -- always a hit-or-miss feature on a disto box -- is very effective, especially between 9 and 3.The only problem with is that it crackles when you adjust some of the kobs. They say this is normal, though it's mildly bothersome. Also, as it's supposed to simulate a Marshall amp at full gain, to my ear it also tends to run a little hot and trebly, so if I play with it on for hours I get ear fatigue. I solved this by getting a more subtle, warm and less trebly OD pedal to go with it, the Death By Audio Interstellar Overdriver, and I switch between them. Also, it's good-but-not-great at cleaning up on low guitar volume settings, but I just think a guitar on 10 sounds better than a guitar on any other #, period, so maybe it's just me.Anyway, point is, I'm a major pedalhead and the Box Of Rock is a permanent fixture on my board.
