The banjo has a long and exotic history. No-one knows for sure where the banjo originates, though it's a widely held belief that it originated from Central Asia. The name banjo could possibly come from Portuguese or from the native language spoken in Angola. What we do know as the traditional banjo with a fingerboard and tuning pegs were first seen in the Caribbean in the 17th Century. There are a number of variants of the banjo, including the five-string, four-string, and plectrum, tenor and cello versions. In addition, the Banjo mandolin and the banjo/ukulele crossover, called the Banjolele. Commonly used in country and bluegrass music, notable banjo players include Earl Scruggs, Pete Seeger, Steve Martin and Scott Avett. As with everything we sell, all our banjos are supported by our price & satisfaction guarantees and free standard shipping applies to all orders except heavy items.
