OVERVIEW

Want more kick for your kick? Try the 2009 Summer NAMM's Best in Show.

The KickPort's design enhances the sound of your kick drum by porting the kick drum in the same manner as a bass reflex speaker cabinet, which boosts low frequencies. It adds ideal dampening directly to the resonant head, which allows you to remove most”if not all”of the internal materials, thus reclaiming all of the natural resonance and tone of your drum. The KickPort bass drum enhancement also focuses the air as it exits the kick drum, creating a natural compression that increases punch.

As if that wasn't enough, it's tunable! Due to its broadband design, the KickPort bass drum enhancement improves the sound of bass drums sized 16" to 28." It can be tuned up or down by adjusting the tuning of the resonant head.

All of these benefits add up to more lows, more tone, better definition, and more punch in varying acoustical environments. Make no mistake, it's not just for the audience or the sound engineer”these are benefits the drummer can feel behind the drum set as well.

FEATURES
  • Fits kick drums sized 16"-28"
  • 4" diameter opening
  • Fits a 5 to 5 1/4" hole

I put this on a 22 emad batter, rite away it sounded great, nice and punchy, also saved my head from being damaged from people trippin on mic cords n tearing the head. a few months later it started to vibrate on the head, i stuffed underneath the rubber with foam, and this still gave my kick the "kickfart", seriously what it sounded like, I couldnt even remove it without a chance of damaging my head, so i had cut the rubber off completely, Im thinkin im just gona get that plastic in a can and spray around the hole. dont buy the kickfart

Everyone should have this product!

By GRANT ADAMS

Comments about Kickport Bass Drum Sonic Enhancement Port:

I have put this product on 3 different bass drums...It is amazing! If you can tune a bass drum, then a kickport will help you feel it in your chest. You can move this to other kits... you can take this on and off without tearing up your resonant head. There are some people writing reviews on this product that probably can't tie their shoes if they are having the problems they described. The only reason I bought a second kickport is that I sold my Yamaha Recording Customs, and the guy who bought them said the kickport had to come with it. I now have a kick port on my DW Customs and it made a big improvement again. If your shells are cut well, you have good heads, and you can tune a bass drum.... then this product will make an incredible difference. If you can't do the first three, then do not buy this product.

To the people saying it rattles,my guess is you didn't install it correctly.I've only used it in my practice room so far,but I can hear the difference even from behind.More bottom & it's rounder & fuller from my old Ludwig 14x24.

Comments about Kickport Bass Drum Sonic Enhancement Port:

I have always played my 22" Pearl kick drum with a full resonant head (no hole cut), usually miked near the head. I didn't want to trade the nice, deep, full resonance for volume. Still, I had to use a pillow inside the drum to eliminate ring from both heads, and never got the punch I wanted. I thought about just cutting a hole, but read the reviews on the the Kick Port and decided to give it a try.All I can say is WOW! The first thing I noticed it "hey, I can really hear and feel the kick drum from the throne!" And the tone is so much deeper and thicker.Even without a mike the difference in volume and tone is astonishing. And there is no ring from either head (I use an Aquarian kick head with the muffler ring attached). This was a really outstanding addition to my kit, I highly recommend it.

Comments about Kickport Bass Drum Sonic Enhancement Port:

I used to think these were another one of those gimmick products that do more for the aesthetics than the actual sound, itself. I was very wrong. I finally broke down and bought one to try it out, because I heard everybody raving about them. I am a believer. I can't own a kit without one of these anymore. It punches you right in the gut. I just got a new kit, and the first thing I did after I got it home was got a KickPort and installed it the next day. I have a 22" kick, and with the Kickport, and the plastic side of the beater, I get the deep, low end of a felt beater, but the attack and clarity of the plastic beater. I also have a 20" inch kick drum, and with a KickPort, it can stand up against 22" kick drums, any day. Great product. If you're considering getting one, do it. You'll be happy you did.

Here's a quick tip: For a cleaner look, install the reinforcement ring on the inside of the head.

Comments about Kickport Bass Drum Sonic Enhancement Port:

I'm very satisfied with the results. It provides a distinctive lower frequency boom or full round tone that my 22" bass drum lacked. I thought I needed a 24" for a bigger sound but I'll be contented with the 22" now. And it's not as boomy as a 24". It's not too boomy.
A new beater head improved the attack and now I'll add a pillow to provide that additional kind of feel and sound,or pillowy effect. It should be about perfect then.

If you already have a nice drum set, don't waste your money on this overhyped piece of plastic. I bought one today and have to warn you. This ugly accessory makes any kick drum look cheap and tacky. And, more importantly, the product takes away from the real sound of the drum. I happen to have a nice set of drums (C&C), and this product takes away from the natural sound of them, almost to the point where the kick drum doesn't sound like it belongs with the rest of the kit. The only good reason to buy this would be If you're looking for more attack and punch, especially if you have a lower end kit that needs some more umph. But be warned of the lopsided volume increase.

I've toured Brazil twice with the kickport and not only the response from the sound engineers but the drummers went crazy. You must follow some guide lines in order to maximize the affect. I use no extra muffle inside the kick and tune on the loose side of tuning. I use with Aquarian Super Kick and Regulator series heads. You will need to widen port hole on Regulator and thats all.

The descriptions say exactly what it does. Controlls the flow of the air, which increase the bass and the punch

The one peice of gear I have been using lately on every shoot is the KICKPORT! It is hands down the best situation for mic'ing a kick in live or studio recording, we called the company to get the Kickport and the new Cajon port in our mic cabinet on the rare occasion that a superstar drummer does not already have one installed on his kit. As a recording and stage tech, this is my secret weapon, as a drummer, this is a must have!

                  Kickport on smaller Bassdrums

                  By Anonymous

                  from Undisclosed

Comments about Kickport Bass Drum Sonic Enhancement Port:

With a bassdrum of this measure ( 15" ) it's very difficult to have a really low note. This bassdrum by Canopus Drums Japan already has great lows but I wanted a little bit more since I had to muffle the reso head and I don't like to do it, I like the reso head to feel loose and resonating a lot. When I put some muffling like a blanket inside the bassdrum touching the reso head I felt I was closer to the sound I want but the bad things were that the head wasn't resonating at his fullest since the blanket will only touch a small part of the head making it to sound muffled where is touched but on the upper part it's open. So with the blanket I won't have the reso head at his fullest, I've gained a lower note but when I asked someone to play the bassdrum and go to the front I realized I wasn't having a round, low and resonant note. So, knowing what the KICKPORT did to all my 20" and 22" bassdrums I thought of trying it on my 15" bassdrum since I know that the KP will resonate WITH the head, not AGAINST the head, and it will lower the fundamental note of it, focusing the sound. And so my thoughts were right! I didn't muffle the reso head at all with anything inside the bassdrum and with the kickport I would have a low note, a focused sound and above all I knew that it wasn't taking off the resonance of the head. Then, I placed a microphone in front of the KP hole on the bassdrum, put my headphones on and with the same EQ played it with the KP and without the KP. Uowww! What a difference! So I fully recomend the use of the KP in any kind of bassdrum, no matter what size, wood type and bearing edge. See for yourself, try it and you'll see the diference! Doesn't work and it damaged my head

                  from NYC

Comments about Kickport Bass Drum Sonic Enhancement Port:

I bought this because it claims to get your bass drum lower and who doesn't want a lower bass drum. I have a 22" Pearl Session Custom. I use a GMAD and an Onyx resonant. Not only did my drum sound better WITHOUT this thing, when I tried to remove it, I ended up pulling the head and damaging the left side. The left side of my resonant head will not tune. I understand I used it with a 5" port and not 5 1/4" like they recommend, my geez, they have got to engineer this thing better. Your bass drum is not a subwoofer and it does not move as much air as a subwoofer. If it moved as much air as a subwoofer this might be useful. It's hype and it's overpriced at $40. Do two things 1. Don't port your head 2. Use what Bonham used...Use something like a coated emperor over an ambassador with felt strips. Even with a 22" you will shake the walls.
