I always wanted a 5-string bass and saw the Breedlove ABJ25/CR5 in a guitar magazine. I went to my local dealer and had to order one. It was shipped from another store in New Jersey. When I go it, I was absolutely floored! It is a beautiful instrument. It was set-up spot on and I love the neck. I have an old Guild acoustic bass (4 string) and it has a very thick uncomfortable body. How this guitar generates so much tone with a 5" thick body is amazing. The tone is gorgeous, although I might restring it with a .125 B instead of the .130. I love it! I am not at all surprized they are hard to keep in stock.
I have been playing professionally for over 20 years, exclusively electric bass. My lovely wife and I recently started our own little project with another couple. The style of the band is totally acoustic with everyone singing and everyone playing. What to do? I had absolutely no experience with the acoustic bass guitar. My short list ended up being the Tacoma 5 string or the Breedlove. The Tacoma was backordered, so I took a chance on the Breedlove. A month, 3 live gigs and 5 recorded songs later I am deeply impressed. The tone, both acoustic and through the pickup, is excellent. The fit and finish are superb. The bass required no adjustment at all out of the box, the intonation is spot on. The hardshell case with the shoulder strap is great. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone looking for an acoustic bass guitar.
I purchased an Breedlove Atlas ABJ25/CR5 Plus 5-String Acoustic-Electric Bass after checking out many other 5 string acoustic-electric basses available and am extremely happy with the decision. Their are other makers that approach its quality and tone but the unique bracing system and the larger resonant cavity really sold it for me. The bracing system allows stringing without the usual peg style string holders and with the girth and tension of the low E and B strings it is a superior design. The onboard Fishman is great and the included case is bullet proof and beautifully designed. I bought the Breedlove to add the right color to a show that featured all Larry Gatlin tunes and it beautifully offered a cross between a country acoustic flavor to a believable upright bass sound if played and tweaked right. I really like the different colors that this bass offers to my pallet of electrics and upright basses and I resolve that it is well worth the price.
WOW... This is some bass guitar Breedlove has designed. I have had mine since last fall and tone gets sweeter & sweeter every time I play it. The Rosewood is some of the finest I have ever seen and together with the cedar top this baby is real honey. Rich in color and very soft to all you senses. The sound is so deep it rattles the walls in every venue I play in. So many have commented on the bass I think I have spoken every word known to man to describe the bass. If you have a chance to find one (NOT EASY) do not leave the shop with out it...You will be back...Peace, Robbie Mays The Paul Paoli Band
