Designed by the KISS bass mastermind himself!

Designed in 1992 by Gene Simmons himself, the Punisher bass was created to solve problems the KISS bassist kept finding with other basses.

"I hate basses with their necks buried in the body. It prevents me from reaching the high notes. Also I do not like the sound of most basses. They are usually too round and you can't hear the notes. So I designed the Punisher to deliver a BIG SOUND." - Gene Simmons

The Punisher 2 is an update of the original with a mahogany body and bolt-on Canadian rock maple neck. Its rosewood fretboard is adorned with white pearloid diamond inlays. Mighty Mite MMPB-4 and MMJB-R pickups provide the kind of growl that Gene needs when he's conquering the biggest stages the world over. It's all packaged with a killer black finish with white trim. Includes a Gene Simmons custom softshell case with his image. Includes case.

Review from 'Gene' - KISS tribute band

Comments about Cort Gene Simmons Punisher 2 Bass:

Being 'The Demon' in a KISS tribute band let me give you all a review of this bass.

                    The bass first:

It has a very cool look to it especially when I'm in costume. I would suggest a nice wide strap since the neck does 'dive' quite a bit. I relocated to strap buttons to best suit me and I would suggest you do the same. There's a guy on youtube who put out a video on how to setup the bass properly...watch it!! Any new should ALWAYS be setup once you buy it..don't always trust the factory setup..it's not the best. Everybody likes a certain feel to their bass and the Punisher is no exception. I LOVE playing it once I set it up to my own personal feel. The stock pickups are fine. I use a Hartke full stack (4x10 and single 15" 500w head) and the tone is deep and punchy..like it alot! Your tone also depends on your bass rig..use cheap stuff and your tone is cheap. Take the mids out of the EQ and you will be amazed. Its a long scale at 24 frets so that takes some getting used to if you've played on nothing but 22 fret basses..not too heavy at all. Beautiful finish..nice and glossy. Again, once setup properly, it's a blast to play and has a great feel.

                    Now the case:

The case, though cool looking, is cheap. I take excellent care of the equip but one of the zippers broke off after only 4 months..cheap quality. The padding inside is very nice. It is also designed to be worn on your back with straps..unnecessary IMO. The case should have been a hard case rather than a rigid soft case, but still good enough to protect the bass. Storage area is pretty decent. Overall, I would give it solid 7 out of 10.

                    Surprisingly Impressed

Comments about Cort Gene Simmons Punisher 2 Bass:

I was very skeptical about the quality of this bass, being that it's an online purchase. You will be very lucky to find a Cort Punisher to play first before you buy it..it's very difficult to justify an online instrument purchase without playing on it first. That being said, I was actually very impressed when this bass arrived.

If you're looking to buy one of these Punisher basses, it's in your best interest to watch Scott Grove's punisher video on youtube. He will tell you all you need to know and how to get it set up for the best sound.

Mine was actually VERY close to being perfectly set up right out of the box..the neck had only the slightest backbow in it. I did exactly what Scott suggested and was very happy with the results.

I use a markbass 2x10 cabinet with the little mark3 amp head...this combo sounds amazing!! It may not look like a big bass rig but I have to say, it sure beats carrying a couple of hundred pounds of bass rig. The EQ knobs allow you to set whatever tone you desire..no lie. I like my bass tone to be slightly punchy but still being able to feel it. I was able to copy Gene's tone almost exact and my tone NEVER sounds muddy through the mains.

Back to the bass..it has a very nice feel to it. The finish is beautiful, smooth and looks like glass. I suggest you order a scratch pad to keep the back of your bass looking new over the years. Cort could have done a MUCH nicer job in the position of the front strap button. I suggest you take it to a shop and move the strap button above the point to eliminate a lot of the neck dive. Lower the bridge pickup to about half the height of what it is out of the box. Now you will be able to really hear the difference between all 3 switch positions.

Once you watch the punisher video on youtube and make the recommended modifications, this bass is a pleasure to play...AND it attracts a lot of attention. It does weigh 8 lbs so I suggest a nice wide padded strap if you're going to use this bass all night.

A very good buy for the money. With the exception of a couple of things Cort could have done better, I recommend this bass to anyone looking for Punisher bass.

The case is cheesy. The lid doesn't stay up by itself, which is a pain. Although the screenprint is cool, I would've rather preferred a hardwood case nicely dressed in black that says Punisher on it. It does have a nice amount of storage space for various accessories. I plan on making my own hardwood case, line it with foam and cut the mold for the body so it's a snug fit.

Hope this helps! Good luck...Coolbass :)

Comments about Cort Gene Simmons Punisher 2 Bass:

For the price and what it was needed for, this will fit the bill nicely! See above.
I have always wanted a Punisher, but could never justify spending thousands of dollars on one. Then, I see Cort has made budget-minded copies of the original. Around this same time, I landed a gig in a KISS tribute band. Unlike most gigs, this one requires a certain costume and instrument.
Being a total deal hound, I looked for months to find a good price on a Punisher II. My first KISS bass investigating prompted me to get a great deal on a used Axe on Musicians Friend. I was happy with this transaction, and loved the fact that I saved money. However, that was the Axe, an older instrument. The Punisher II was released in May of this year.

PROS: The case this bass comes in is so much nicer than that cheesy gig bag that is included with the Axe. The case zipper is nice, and the bass is well protected in its foam cocoon. Looking at this bass, it seems to be better made than my Axe. Its almost as if the Cort factory was learning on the Axe, and figured it out when they started making Punishers. Unlike my Axe, this basss tuners were all pretty straight. The finish has no bubbles or blems, and the white binding is part of the finish. The first thing I noticed is how much lighter this bass is compared to the Axe. My Axe is a touch over 9 lbs and the Punisher weighs in just over 8. The lighter weight made a huge difference after two hours of practice. No wonder why Gene plays his Punisher most of the night. The neck is the exact same as the Axe. I nice beefy P-Bass profile, but not like a campfire log/baseball bat. The strap pins are installed in the normal position, unlike the Axe. I love the white binding on the headstock, and the diamond inlays. The back of the neck is finished, but I never had an issue with it. Unlike the Axe, you can play the Punisher seated! A huge benefit when Im trying to learn new songs for the band.
CONS: The case is nicer, but still has cheap parts to it. For instance, the felt material pealed away from the cavity when my strap pin rubbed against it. Also, the case lid doesnt stay open on its own. I would use a different case, but the pointy end on the body makes the bass too long to fit in most cases or bags. The biggest surprise to me was the neck dive. I for sure thought this bass would have less neck dive than the Axe. After taking measurements, both basses pretty much have the strap button in the same place, in relation to the fret board. Due to its lighter weight, the Punisher neck dives more easily. If you have a nice wide leather strap, it isnt bad, and stays pretty much in place. The bass sounds okay with its stock pickups, but nothing to write home about. The tone knob has no gradual roll on/roll off. The tone is kind of brittle, and lacks any punch. I replaced my Axe with EMGs, and I will do the same with the Punisher. The Punisher has a barrel input jack. I dislike that jack because they fail so often. The Axe has the standard jack, which is simple yet effective design. Lastly, the Axe gets a lot of attention. While I prefer the way the Punisher looks, it definitely takes a back seat in the shock & awe department, compared to its Simmons sibling.
I now have the complete set. These are both great basses if given new EMG pickups, good strings, and a setup. ROCK N ROLL!!!!
Better QC than the Axe. See above.
Not versatile like a Fender, but a must in a KISS tribute band. See above.
