Comments about Danelectro Hodad Electric Bass Guitar:

This is a great little bass, that sounds like no other. It has a great round and warm sound. My bass arrived in perfect condition and plays well right out of the box. The metallic blue color is really sharp. Because of it's construction, it has a bit of volume when played acoustically, making it fun to just pick up and noodle around on. Plus, it is really light weight, and the neck length is perfect for everyone with normal arm length.

The workmanship is perfect, everything works, it looks and plays great, what's not to like?

Grab one before they are discontinued!

Comments about Danelectro Hodad Electric Bass Guitar:

Anyone familiar with Danelectro will know what to expect. That being you are going to send about a half a dozen of these things back before you get one that you can play. For those who don't know Danos this is a short scale bass that must be strung with the lightest strings money can buy. The reason being the bridge is a tiny, flimsy affair that a set of medium gauge strings would squash flat (not that you could feed them through the thing anyhow but the point stands). Mine had a busted tuning key on the D string so I can't really tell how the neck would adjust out but I did tune the other three strings, plugged it in and discovered an absolutely horrible squeeling roar when either tone knob was taken off of zero. For me that was strike three and I'm sending it back in exchange for a nice Epiphone. If you go to a music store and find one thats playable you will have a neat little retro guitar with punchy output that weighs almost nothing. Its finding one thats not a complete piece of garbage thats the trick.

Comments about Danelectro Hodad Electric Bass Guitar:

This is my 6th Danelectro bass. I sold all the others. Various models, but I had the old Hodad. Which I loved. I loved them all actually, but each had one of 2 things that made me not want to hold onto them. The neck that had to be removed in order to adjust the truss rod, and/or the non adjustable bridge. The new Hodad has an adjustable bridge, and you can access the truss rod at the headstock.

Why I claim this bass is the most underated:

First, nothing sounds quite like a Danelectro, and only those who have experienced them know what I'm talking about. They're thick, gooey, punchy, and sit in the mix like nobody's business. They have a barky quality that's also all their own, and sound like none of my other basses (and I own lots). They work really well in a band mix and cut through like a razor, but not because of lots of clackety highs. There's just enough top end to do the job, and still sound awesome. I know some might find this frightful, but when I had my old Hodad I brought it to a few gigs and A/Bed it with an American made P deluxe. The hodad had way more bottom, and in 2 seperate situations the band liked the tone of the Hodad more. They thought it had more punch and more character.

While I just got this bass today and haven't brought it into a band setting, I immediately smiled when I plugged it in for the bedroom test. Has the same Danelectro character that I'm sure will shine when it gets to a gig.

The other things with this particular Dano that stand out though (aside from what I already mentioned) are first that the fit and finish were flawless. Even the neck pocket was wicked tight (not really sure what that has to do with anything, but people always talk about it). The paintjob is perfect, and even the tape around the body looks like a bit of an upgrade from the older stuff. It has a pattern in it that's a little more intricate than remember seeing in the past. The neck is also painted but not sticky, and the nut I think might be graphite, or something I'm not familiar with. Looks cool though. Frets aren't sharp at all, action is great, the bass came with a great setup... and the price is super right, especially if you have a 20% off coupon. Oh yeah, I noticed too that the upper frets are real user friendly. Easy to get to because of the way the neck is set in the body, and there are 24 of em. I can even squeeze a note out of the non existent 25th.

Great bass. Lighter than anything else I know of too. If you want something uniquie with lots of bottom, bark and bite - you won't be sorry.
