Comments about Danelectro Wild Thing Electric Bass Guitar:
I've had mine for a little over 2 weeks now. This is only the second time I've bought an instrument without playing it first. I decided to take a chance on it because it's inexpensive, I LOVE the way it looks, and I like how Fat Mike's DC3 sounds.
Mine was made in Korea (they just moved production back there for 2012). The scale length is actually 30", not 32. This was not set up very well at the factory. The strings were really loose; I was getting all buzz and no tone quality from the first 3 or 4 frets. Adjusting the truss rod and putting on new strings helped. Intonation just sort of disappears around the 9th or 10th fret, especially on the bottom 2 strings. I am still experimenting with the bridge (you can adjust it - just not very easily), but I don't expect it to ever be perfect.
As far as looks go, everyone who's seen it so far has been impressed. The picture doesn't do the blue finish justice, and the other thing you can't really see is the white "ostrich" side tape, which looks really cool. I like the look of the stacked knobs, even if they are super-cheap plastic.
Neck pickup sounds like it should, bridge sounds a little too hollow for my taste, but when they work together you can get a variety of rich tones (not to mention loud).
My only other complaint is I wish it came with a gig bag. I was worried about the upper bout's irregular shape. I took it to my local George's and it does fit into all the bags they sell - but just barely.
Overall, it's a cool-looking, fun-to-play instrument at a reasonable price. Get it if you want something that looks obnoxious, you want a lightweight short-scale bass, or if you just wish you were in NOFX.
Comments about Danelectro Wild Thing Electric Bass Guitar:
This is a great looking bass! I got it in black. I think the black is very classy looking. Love the lipstick pick-ups, makes for a great sound plugged in! And since it's a Dano, the semi hollow body gives it ALMOST an acoustic sound. I can hear myself playing this much louder than my solid body basses. I don't really like the pick guard. It's textured, and feels very flimsy and cheap. The bass is inexpensive, but I own another Dano that is way better quality. Overall the sound is great, if you're looking for the old school retro sound. Also, out of the box, after tuning it, there is still a little fret buzz. It's easily fixed with a little adjusting and better strings. This thing is larger than my two other basses but SOO much lighter! You can really thrash around with this beauty! Love this bass for the value.
Loved the stacked tone and volume controls! Cleaner, cooler look!
Some of the features are cheap. But hey, look at the price.
Perfectly priced for the sound!
Comments about Danelectro Wild Thing Electric Bass Guitar:
Like the onboard electronice so you can use either pickup or both. Has lots of treble if you do lead or solo bass runs!
The new WILD THING BASS from Danelectro looks real cool on stage. Wild shape and two famous lipstick pick ups with onboard electronice for using either pick up or both. Lots of treble if you do lots of bass runs! I use this with my Peavey Firebass 700 amp and Kustom tuck n' roll cab with 2-15's! Monster sound. I ordered mine in blue. Lightweight and real retro looking! Danelectro has done it again. I just wish they had it available in more color choices. Like Purple! Anyway, very decent bass for the money! Dude, it's a Dano!
