This is a great bass for the price. sounds awesome acoustically and plugged in. The satin finish looks very natural (wood isn't naturally shiny) The tone of this bass is great and it even sounds good when playing slap bass.
my electric bass is fretless and i use fender tapewounds so this bass was a completely new experience. the action is high, but not unplayably high, and the strings are roundwounds, not as finger friendly as tapewounds, but expected.
This bass plays very well and is a joy to own. acoustically it is fairly loud, although you might have to use a pick (I know a lot of pick haters out there would disagree) but it is sometimes necessary to cut through the sound of other instruments. This bass won't out-play any other acoustic instruments but it is able to play with them. Electrically this bass is a little weak, it has alot of finger noise but if the tone is turned all the way down it sounds almost the same through the amp as it does acoustically.
This bass does great when jamming with an acoustic guitar or two and even a cajon (box drum) or other slightly quiet percussion.
Overall this is an amazing acoustic bass that is fun to play and is loud enough to be used as it is intended; Acoustically
good tuners, straight neck, well dressed frets, no buzzing when fretted with enough pressure, and nice finish. The only complaint I have is the one strap button (common with acoustic guitars) so i just use string to tie my strap to the headstock. still an awesome bass nonetheless
best value as far as acoustic basses go. This thing rocks and its cheap too. You can get that acoustic bass sound you've been looking for without breaking the bank.

I ordered my EAB a few years ago and was very disappointed. At first, when I had ordered it, it was on back order. I had wait for over a month to receive it. I had called at one point to see why it was taking so long. The explanation was "the gig bag was unavailable at this time." I had them send me the guitar and then gig bag later. A week later the gig bag showed up, still no guitar. A few days later I got the guitar, well my neighbor got my guitar. At some point the last part of address got dropped off and it was send one house over. After opening up my first "brand new" guitar I found the neck was twisted. So bad the E string was hitting the first fret and the G string was hitting the bottom of the fret board. The fret buzz was terrible. I tried to adjust the neck but there was no adjustment. I took it to a local music store to have it "set-up." I was told to send it back. I called once again, to find that my guitar was now "outside the guaranteed time period." I then had to pay to have the neck milled flat, so that the guitar was playable, which cost another 100. After the neck was milled (or also called "decked") it still had fret buzz and couldn't be played without an amp. I left it in the gig bag in a closet. Each year I get it out and play it a little, but the quality is just poor as best.

Dean EAB Natural Satin

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

Considering the price, I really expected this thing to show up with problems. To my suprise it seems someone actually took the time to set it up properly, which is more than I can say about other guitars I've mail ordered for 3 or 4 times what this costs(I'm lookin' at you Epiphone!). It sounds great, suprisingly loud for an acoustic in this price range. I have the natural satin model. I havent tried one, but I would imagine the gloss paint on the black one would not allow the top to vibrate as freely. The action is perfectly set up nice and low with no fret buzz anywhere. Extremely satisfied with this one, props to the folks at Dean. I'd recommend this to the beginner or experienced. Seriously, at this price why not grab one.
Low end passive electronics, only volume and tone slider controls. They do function fine and sound decent enough, though personally I don't plan on plugging it in very often . On board tuner would be nice, I believe the similar priced Ibanez has one.
Showed up flawless, seems very well built.
Great buy for the low price.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

For the price that this guitar is being sold for it deserves nothing else but 5 stars. There was a learning curve I had to go through before I really appreciated it. First, I had to undo a lot of electric bass tendencies. The action was high. I was very tempted to lower it, but after some reading I decided to leave it high, and I'm glad I did because I got used to it.Definitely you will HAVE to change the strings before you do any serious evaluating. I put on Ernie Ball Earthwood Phoshpor Bronze's the bass really came alive. There's going to be some finger noise, but that, too, will lessen as you get used to it. Once I started lightening up my right hand picking and concentrating on keeping the left hand relaxed, it improved finger noise a lot.I had no problems when amplifying. I just had to experiment with settings to get a real nice sound.Workmanship and finish are excellent.I don't think this bass would be the best for a beginner. It would be awkward for a beginner to hold and with the action as high as it is and as far away as first position is on this bass, again, I think frustration would set in.For an electric bass player with a lot of hours under his/her belt, this would be a pleasure to play.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

The bass feels good, sounds good, it came with the strings attached, it was in perfect tune when it was shipped and I played it for 5 days straight never even having to pull out my tuner, the strangest thing I have encountered ever buying an instrument.
I love this bass, can't believe the cost.

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

...meaning, like everything else that I've received through the mail from 'Musician's Friend' (and any others that I've dealt with, lucky me) the product arrived on time, in working order, and without a scratch! As for the Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass, I again give high marks. First, as others have mentiond, this is a big boy! My cousin (with whom I occasionally jam) mentioned recently that if he were get another guitar anytime soon, an accoustic bass would be a good idea, because you always have plenty of guys bringing guitars, but basses and bass-players are rarely on hand. Having a little bottom end would definitely make the the play arounds a bit richer and more lively. So, up comes this item offered to me in conjunction with a pretty fair discount, meaning that I could own it for less than the already low price! "Done and done!", says I. I'm not a bass player, but like noodling around and, as with anything else, you can't help but get better if you have the incentive to work at it. This big black beauty allows me that incentive. Once tuned up, it stays in tune. There are no sharp edges and it is well-crafted, solidly put together and produces a rich, thick sound. All of the frets were fine, (no sharp edges) I get no buzzing, and the action is perfect. It needed no set-up and it sounds pretty cool plugged into my small practice amp, as well. I like this critter! It's cheap, pretty, and worth the price. Thank you, 'Musician's Friend' from a happy and satisfied customer...

      Great deal - good guitar

Comments about Dean EAB Acoustic-Electric Bass:

With only a slight truss rod adjust, it has near perfect intonation. The tuners work very well, and the acoustic sound blends in perfectly with two acoustic guitars. I really like the jumbo body with the large round lower bout. IMHO that is what adds to the great acoustic sound of this Dean EAB acoustic-electric bass guitar.
I haven't used the electronics yet because I bought it to play acoustically. So far this Dean EAB acoustic-electric bass has been outstanding. I can't put it down.
So far I have found just one little blemish on the back of the neck. It is barely noticeable, and doesn't get in the way of playing at all because it is cosmetic only.
The best deal I have ever gotten on a guitar, bar none.

The fit and finish on this was near flawless. I did not have any issues with set-up as did others. Played good right out of the box. Surprised by the quality of this at this price, I don't care where it's made, whoever can deliver this quality at this price gets my money, no regrets.

I go this as a practice instrument mainly. I like to just pick it up and start playing without any need for an amp or headphones. I can play it quietly in my house and can still hear it clearly without waking everybody up at night.Since it is a little harder to play than my electric bass, it is helping me build up my left hand wrist and fingers giving me better technique when I do play the electric. Someday, I hope to play with acoustic guitars in an unplugged setting and I think this would work well.

Amazing value for the money. Construction is generally good, but had some sloppy spots inside. Not super loud, but, good enough for the jam.
You will need to expect to do or get a complete setup on the bass from the start-neck adjustment, saddle lowering, nut adjustment-otherwise it is difficult to play comfortably.
One last thing. This guitar is big and heavy. The neck is long and unless you are a good sized player this won't work for you. Small folks beware!
