This bass will put out volume as an acoustic and keep up with other instruments unplugged. Great Tone
I just picked mine up last night at Guitar center and I was impressed with the finish and feel of this bass. I have had a Takamine Bass that I paid 3 times more for and this bass has better sound quality both acoustically and amplified. I think the body is a bit larger but that is why the tone is better.

When I went into the store I asked to see this bass and they didn't have one on the floor so they went and got one in the box and brought out tuned it right there and I tried it out. first there was no buzzing on any fret, the strings that came with the dean are still on it right now and they sound decent, the intonation up and down the neck seem to be perfect, the action is really good and set low enough it is basically effortless to play without and problems.

I have played bass for about 30 years and I have owned several basses(Fender, Hammer, Tenada, Takamine and now a Dean) this is my second time to get an acoustic bass and I will say there are lemons in anything you buy but this is a good quality bass for the money. I don't plan on gigging much with this bass but if I decide to I do have a preamp and expect it to be able to deliver the sound I need through our Mixer or an amp.

I played this thing for almost 5 hours straight after I got it home and I think it's got great potential for what I want the volume I get acousticly will definitly keep up with other acoustic instruments.

I met another guy at the music store while I was there that has the same bass told me that his guitar was as Playable as mine when he bought his straight out of the box and that when he changed his strings he tried several brands but the Ernie Ball Earth Wood Acoustic Bass strings are the best strings he has tried so far on his so I will buy a set when I get ready to change strings.
I don't think anyone will go wrong with this bass I rated it as an 8 but only because other basses have better onboard electronics.
finish, playabliity, and workmanship are great
There are better basses you can buy but you'll have to shell out some dough to get them. This is the Best Bass you can get for under $500 in my opinion

This bass is OK for the price. if you use your fingers to play theres an incredible amount of rattle, it sounds ok if you use a pick. it doesnt sound all that good out of an amp you have to turn treble all the way down to make it sound better. I would reccomend this bass for someone who is just starting out, but be prepaied to upgrade immidiately, save up a couple hundred more and go with an Ibanez.

Comments about Dean EABC Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Bass:

This is a great bass for practicing, and maybe jamming with an acoustic. Don't try playing it plugged in! Even at moderate levels mine fed back like crazy. The tone was also poor, and notes on the higher strings were much lower in volume than those on the E and A strings.

use the right amp

By Tubatoothpaste

from Central Illinois

Comments about Dean EABC Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Bass:

The scale is so long that this will work best for slower stuff, especially when you first pick it up. If you use it as a practice bass, and then use a short scale, e.g., a Hofner Beatle bass, it will mess you up at first.

If you just want an acoustic bass and never want to amplify, I would say "But it now. Don't hesitate."

If you want to amplify it, please evaluate your amplification and pre-amp options carefully.
Your first impression will be: "Oh my gawrsk! It's a mariachi bass!" This thing really is huge, which can make it hard to play. That's why I gave it an 8. When I first got it, I would stand it upright on my wife's piano bench and play it like a big string bass, that's how big it is. And really, that is truly a comfortable position in which to play this bass.
Seriously, I tried a lot of different basses, and this absolutely had the best acoustic sound when unplugged.

You will see several reviews on this site where it's stated that the bass sounded lousy when run through an amp. I will tell you that is true if you try to run this axe through a standard bass amp. The first time I tried to amplify this, it was through a low-end, transistorized Crate, and it sounded awful. Just recently, I ran it through an amp made for acoustic guitar (a Kustom Sienna) and it sounded good, although there was a bit of a hum. I boosted the signal with an ART tube MP studio preamp, and it sounded even better, with just a little bit less hum.

My point here is that you need to have the right amp or preamp for this unit. If I still had my L.R.Baggs paracoustic, I could have given you more data.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy this unit, especially at the price.

EABC Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Bass

By Joseph Vargas

from Coconut Creek, FL.

Comments about Dean EABC Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Bass:

When I fret the bass, it feels and sounds right. I'm quite satisfied. The customer service at Musician's Friend is always top-notch. I feel confident shopping with Musician's Friend online and will continue to do so.
The bass has good action and a strong deep sound. I think its size gives it the full sound when playing acoustic. It plays fairly easy with no buzzing.
The EABC Bass is high quality for the money. This bass sounds like a really expensive instrument. It has a solid, heavy feel that will last a lifetime.
The price was very attractive. I feel like I bought a high end bass.

Comments about Dean EABC Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Bass:

For the price, it's a great bargin. I was looking for a bass to record with but was on a budget. Sounds great acoustically and very fun to play on. Have changed strings or anything with the structure so far. But I'm pretty impressed.

My First

By That Kid-EjgxY

from Pinellas Park

Comments about Dean EABC Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Bass:

This is my first bass, i bought it mainly because we are a guitar family and being so we have no bass amps, so i needed an acoustic. It's pretty good acoustically i can jam with my dad with his 20 watt tube amp soo... I've only plugged it in a couple time, sometime it takes a while for the signals to get flowing to the amp. The most annoying thing to me is the buzz... on the e-string buzz, others pretty good. I really like it. no problems with the tuners. Good Bass for the money

Not bad, could be better.

Comments about Dean EABC Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Bass:

Well I didn't pick my Dean up from Musician's friend(sorry guys) but when I bought mine, brand new in the box from G.C. I opened it up and the tuning knob has some sort of pitting and a thumb print in the finish. The matte clear coat looks like it was bumped a few times while it was drying because there are bubbles and scuffs on the finish. It does sound wonderful unplugged. When I plugged it in to a B100 Acoustic amp it was a bit quite, the preamp on the bass is not as great as I thought it would be. It's actually pretty basic. Just a volume and tone adjustment. It's really perfect for the price. If you are looking for a bass that isn't extremely expensive but worth the money you pay for it then here it is. Happy playing everyone.

not so awesome...

By bassman21

Comments about Dean EABC Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Bass:

this bass is pretty sweet when you get it. its got a really sweet finish and has an awesome neck. the tone is really solid unplugged and pretty good plugged in also. the main problem though: quality. the finish scratches pretty easily, which isnt really too bad of a problem, but the tuners are. the VERY FIRST DAY that i had this bass, the A-string tuner/winder broke. after having this bass for about 3/4 of a year, almost every tuner for each string is broken. im pretty annoyed at the moment and would just like to say, what you pay for is what you get.
