Comments about Dean Edge 09 5-String Bass:

Mine came w/ a tiny white scratch in the otherwise nice, glossy, black finish right under the control knobs. The other 2 flaws were a place on the edge of the fret-board around the 14th fret that looks like it was hit hard (dropped?) & the lower edge of the first 2 frets were still a might sharp. The shipping box arrived whole w/ adequate bubble-wrapping, so I'm thinking these flaws were factory QC oversights. I filed the sharp fret edges myself & since I was planning on doing some major upgrade modifications anyway (details below) & mostly need this bass for recording (I'm a songwriter) - I'm willing to overlook the cosmetic issues that don't affect "playability". Twenty / thirty years ago, a bass this cheap would NOT play this well nor sound this good "as is". The stock pick-up sounds okay & the action is decent right out of the box. My OLD 5-string bass is a Squire p-bass that I picked up used & THAT bad boy is just TOO dad-gummed heavy to keep slung off of your shoulder for more than 20 minutes at a stretch. This Dean is definitely lighter & plays / sounds comparable. My modification plan involves installing a new bridge w/ built-in piezo pick-up, adapting a piezo preamp w/ 9-volt battery to fit inside the bass & then re-stringing it w/ some Tomastik Acoustic-core strings that I don't believe would otherwise work w/ the magnetic pick-up. Bottom line: when you figure the neck alone is worth $100+ in craftsmanship, & I believe I just (bad) lucked into one that could have been quality controlled a little better, this is still a decent bass for the outlay, I'd say.

Comments about Dean Edge 09 5-String Bass:

While still a relative bass novice, I got asked to play in a show pit band and accepted. On seeing the score, I noticed it required a number of notes below the E1 a standard 4-string can play, so rather than trying to adapt to an unusual tuning, I decided to get the Dean Edge 09. Great value. It sounds terrific, and plays so well, I put my 4-stringer aside when called in to play in another pit. Great value for the price.

This was my first 5 string bass guitar buy! i have played bass for 5 years and thought why not try a 5 string. I loved the look and wanted a good price and got it! Love everything about it other than the fact the top B string is a little loose but with adjustment it sounds and feels better! i would defiantly get this for the price

Comments about Dean Edge 09 5-String Bass:

needed a 5 string, did not want to spend more on a bass then a car. bought this one showed up in 3 days, plays decently, not studio quailty, but decent, intonation good, a little pickup static noise, and fretts were sharp on edges, very sharp.
                but nice for the price.

                  Great bass for the $$$

Comments about Dean Edge 09 5-String Bass:

I am very happy with this bass, have gigged out with it a few times, using it exclusively
all night with no problems, got many positive comments, a couple wanting to know where
to get one! I like every thing about this bass, maybe they could offer other colors or finishes.
Sharp looking bass, light weight, low action, fairly narrow neck, very easy to play, great rumble from the low end. I play in a blues/rock/country band and it fits in all areas. I have 2 other Dean basses, and am afan, great stuff for the money!
Great finish, everything seems of good quality
If you're thinking about going 5 string, this is probably the best value for the money.
A quality instrument for a very low price.

Comments about Dean Edge 09 5-String Bass:

What Else can I say... once you go Dean, you cant go back. its an amazing guitar for an even more amazing price. I got it as my first bass (mostly because of its price)... But now I struggle to find somthing, even from Dean, and I have a Dean acustic bass aswell (the playmate if you were wondering), that plays, feels and sounds as good as the good ol' Dean Edge 09.
It has only one (all be it amazing) soap box pickup so... but ist really the only down side of the guitar.
I've had mine for quite awhile now, and it is still amazing. It dosnt scratch easly and struggles to come out of tune (It was even in tune when it arived). The sound is amazing and It can achive almost any sound or style, but it is easyest to play metal or grunge as the guitar just plays those styles so perfectly and efortlessly. Also, you cant go wrong with the brand and the strings are also amazing.
For its price its an amazing guitar. Its neck feels good and it plays even better. Everything else Ive played dosnt come close, wich is wierd considering the price of the guitar is considerably lower than that of the other bass guitars I've played.
