This bass has much to offer for beginners, and most certainly intermediate players. Solid build throughout at a remarkable pricetag. However, always keep in mind that most of your tone comes not from your bass alone. A decent amp + speaker cabinet + string choice is just as vital for one to attain great tone. Above all else phenomenal tone truly comes from the player and their own vision for him/her self.
Solid active EQ, Pristine fret job out of the box, solid neck and body construction. Stable bridge/nut.
I could not be more amazed at the quality of this more than affordable instrument. I strung my "classic black" Dean with some D'addario Chromes and could not be happier with the tonal color. I was looking for a fast playing active 4 string with dual soapbar humbuckers and this model first caught my eye with its unbelievable price and plethora of positive reviews. Out of the box I feel it was almost ready to go. All it needed was a quick string change and truss rod adjustment to accommodate for the higher tension of the flatwounds. The photographs of this bass do not do justice to the actual finish, this is one gem of a guitar that leaves me questioning why it is so cheap.
As said from above the value is out of this world! I would have probably still bought this bass if it was 3x time the retail price. This was my first active bass and I am well pleased. With a simple adjustment of EQ on the bass. I can go from warm thumpy upright tones to cutting aggressive thrills, and anywhere in between. This bass is an unparalleled investment for those looking to get their feet wet in the "active" bass world. I played most other popular basses in this price range, from the Vintage Modified Squiers, Epi ThunderBirds/EBO lines, to the Ibanez Gio. And I have to say that the Dean Edge 10a out plays these basses in terms of overall value, tone quality and build construction.

Bass played well, sounded pretty good too. Not as hot as my friend's Dean, another model with active also, but for the money seemed like a bargain. About3 months later it is dead. Absolutely no sound at all. Checked battery and obvious, no obviouosly bad connections or anything, but don't know the cause of the problem at this time. Very disappointing and inspired me to buy a passive bass, which can easily be fixed on the spot if there's a problem. I may pull out the preamp and use it as a backup, or may get rid of it.

Comments about Dean Edge 10 Active Electric Bass with Active Electronics:
Fantastic build and pickups. smooth playing that is virtually effortless. This bass sounds leagues greater after rewiring it passive and discarding the cheapo preamp that leaves you sounding rather sterile without adequate note definition. Stock pickups sound good v/t/v/t and dont even need to be upgraded. this bass is greater than anything in its price range and seems to compete with basses three times the price. Dean definitely amazes me with how they offer such great products for such little $$.
Simply an awesome bass at a great cost.
Wicked Value.

Comments about Dean Edge 10 Active Electric Bass with Active Electronics:
Like a few others, I bought this guitar to play bass on Rocksmith. Out of the box it looks great (black), intonation looks about right to me. My only complaint was when I went to plug it in for the first time, there was zero sound output. The factory 9V battery was dead. So after a quick trip to the store, I was back in business. I put some new Ernie Ball's on it and so far so good. Fun to play and quite a new experience after playing 6 string for a couple years.

Comments about Dean Edge 10 Active Electric Bass with Active Electronics:
I've played guitar for years, but this was the first bass I ever bought. Picked it up to play RockSmith bass mode and just jamming. I'm quite impressed for the price tag. The active pickups are awesome and provide for a very large range of tones.
Out of the box, it needed only a little work. Had fret buzz pretty much all along the board. Had to do the normal stuff, change stock junk strings, adjust tortion bar, and adjust saddle hieght and intonation, etc. But after setting up, there are only a few places that I get a little fret buzz. Certainly nothing that affects it.
All in all, for just messing around, or if you want a cheap bass to play RockSmith, this is the one to get.

Comments about Dean Edge 10 Active Electric Bass with Active Electronics:
Great playing bass, cheap pots, but easy fix. Even if you hace to replace pots it is still worth every penny.
Awesome active pickups. I love the tonal control of eq.
Right out of the box it had a very straight neck, dead on intonation, well set frets. What I didn't like was the quality of the pots. Treble was very scratchy, and mid was somewhat scratchy.
Easy fix if you know how to solder. I question Dean's decision to use cheap parts.
Other than that a very solid bass. Great balance, great action, and I love the thinness of the neck. Feels great in your hands
Really a great bass for the price. I've played many more expensive guitars that did'nt play as well as this.

Great
I bought this Bass for my Husband who used to play Bass a lot and now is trying to get back in the game. He is real impressed with this. Has nice comfort, light and is a beautiful guitar. I would recomment it!
Comments about Dean Edge 10 Active Electric Bass with Active Electronics:
Bass is great. But the battery slot has issues. I had to send my first bass back because the battery slot didn't work. The second bass only works with the 9 volt panasonic battery that came with the guitar. Duracell 9volt batteries are slightly shorter then Panasonic batteries and don't seem to work in this bass, which is really weird. I think this bass is just going to stop working in a few months. Pity because it is such a great bass otherwise.
When you get this bass, make sure to check if the battery slot works!

BEST BASS FOR THE MONEY BARR NONE!
LOVE IT! JUST MAYBE TELL DEAN GUITARS TO INSPECT THEIR ELECTRONICS A LITTLE CLOSER.MINE WERE LOOSE AND THE POLES CROSSED THUS NO SOUND AT FIRST BUT I REWIRE ALL MY OWN STUFF SO NO PROBLEM FOR ME BUT SOMEONE ELSE MIGHT NOT KNOW HOW TO SIMPLY TURN THE LOOSE CONTROLL TILL IT PLAYS AND THEN TIGHTEN
THE NUT.....OVERALL I AM VERY PLEASED.
THE ACTIVE PICK-UPS ARE GREAT! IT PLAY AWSOME! IT HAS AN AWSOME GROWL TO IT IF YOU WANT IT TO.
I SAW THE STICKER THAT SAYS MAID IN CHINA ON IT WHEN I UNPACKED THE BASS.
I DIDN'T KNOW DEAN HAD A CHINESE LINE.SO I THOUGHT BEFORE FIRST PLAYING IT OH MY GOD ITS A CHEAP PLYWOOD GUITAR ECT....IT IS ACTUALY VERY GOOD.IT PLAYS AS GOOD AS THE $450 IBANEZ AND OTHERS COSTING 3 TIMES AS MUCH
IT'S PLAYED GREAT FOR 6 MONTHS NOW AND HAS NOT WARPED ECT.SOLID WOOD CONSTRUCTION NICE ROSEWOOD FRET BOARD FOR THE MONEY.
NEED A GOOD BASS BUT CANT AFFORD IT NOW YOU CAN BUY IT AND YOU WILL BE PLEASED THE ACTION IS SUPERB RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX..JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE VOLUME AND TONE CONTROLLS ARE TIGHT MINE WERE NOT AND IT WOULD NOT TURN ON AT FIRST BUT I TURNED AND TIGHTEND THE TONE CONTROLL AND ITS BEEN FINE SINCE.BUY IT TRUST ME IT'S A GREAT BASS.
UNBELIEVABLE GOOD QUALITY FOR UNDER $200 OR EVEN FOR THAT MATTER $400.
NOTHING COMES CLOSE TO THE VALUE YOURE GETTING WITH THIS BASS! SOLID BODY ACTIVE PICK-UPS AND GREAT ACTION AS WELL AS SOUND.
Comments about Dean Edge 10 Active Electric Bass with Active Electronics:
Selecting a bass is about tone and feel. This one has plenty of both. Active pickups provide tone usually found in much more expensive guitars. A thin fast neck, comfortable body shape and weight, and great balance make playing it a pleasure. The finish is simple, but very good quality. I prefer this bass to a Squier Jazz costing twice as much. FYI, automobiles come from the factory with default settings, You have to adjust the seat, steering wheel, mirrors, climate, stereo, etc., to your preferences. When you purchase a bass, change the strings, check the neck adjustment, string height, intonation, and pickup height. The difference in comfort and performance can be day & night.
