I recently bought this bass, and I feel that it could have been made better... I've had issues with Dean products in the past, but this was the cheaper bass I could find at my music store. I'd say it would be a good beginner bass, but whenever you try to play something on the top three frets on all the strings you get a harsh crunch. Not the metal kind of crunch, the 'oh no my strings are stuck on the fret lines" crunch. Other than that, it seems to be a good bass for it's price...Next time, though, I'll probably spend the extra $ on something else.

This is the worst bass I've ever owned. After only 2 weeks of playing(which it's hard to say I was playing because it dosen't hold a tuning for 5 mins.), the neck broke. In half. I used replaced the neck with one from my old Dean, and used the same strings and tuners, and it played OK, but then I dropped it and one of tuners busted. This is a peice of crap. Don't buy it!

      My purchase

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

Well, I am really pleased with my new toy, I did not really care about how long it took for me to get it because, I got it at the very end so, that is aaaall that matters to me, just one thing, it was in a good shape, its not hard for me to tune it, its easy to handle, as it was my first experience buying an electronic instrument I never thought it would come out with the cables and all that haha, but anyway...it was a bit scratched on some parts, it had some parts where at least a small scratch and that made it NOT look new 100% but I think thats the way this works...but well, other than that I am really happy with it and I hope I get to buy something else from you guys in the near future, peace.

      quality control

      By mechaniczz

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

After using the Dean XM to record,I found some shortcomings. Two wires from the pickup,in the body cavity, were shunted together and left dangling.I had to tighten the jack and machine heads. The strings that came with the bass are pathetic. Most likely the cheapest they could find in bulk. I replaced them with a standard set that had nearly twice the windings per inch resulting in huge gains in tone. This is a good bass at a cheap price. I expected and resolved all the minor issues. I'd do it again.

      Great tool

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

I bought the Dean Zone Xm for studio use. It does it well. The string buzz was nasty but I adjusted it out with the saddles.I claned up the nut with fine sand paper and adjusted the truss rod. No buzz, great action. A good guitar tech at any guitar store can set it up if you don't feel up to the task. It has solid sound, good hardware, and it's cheap. What's not to like?

This was my first bass ever, I like it. I still play it from time to time when I need more than one bass for different tunings. I play a lot of Metallica, and it never gives me problem with it.

      Dean Zone Xm

      By DrivenUnder95

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

This is my first bass. I've played it all day and it is pretty good. I just wanted to get a cheap one while i take a break from guitar. The only thing I don't like about it is that the strings rattle a bit. I'm gonna replace them soon. But, If you're looking for a good starter bass, this is the best deal for value. It plays very well, and the pickup is high-output for a stock pickup.

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

this is an excellent bass for any person wanting to learn how to play bass guitar. its got good looks and performance. but, as a few people have said in their comments, there is a large amount of rattling while playing this instrument. but overall, a mighty fine bass to have.

      Beginners look out!

      By jackson soloist 420

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

Ive recently bought this bass guitar and my frist impression was wow. This bass has few fearures but offers great tone and looks. I have only one problem with it and that is the amount of string rattle when playing, but this can be fixed with an adjustment or two. ive been playing guitar for around 6 years and decided two play for a friends band so i already have coordination and muscle need to jump right in and start playing bassand this bass made it even easier. It is very affordable and would be a great bass for any begginer or slightly intermediate player. so all in all id have to say it was good purchase.

      Great for any bass player!

      By John Osborne

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

I love pasive basses with one pickup. I own one of this since a little more than 2 years ago... In its range of price ($100 to $200) is the better choice. I must say that I tried a long time with a JACKSON c20, a EPIPHONE eb-0 and a SQUIER affinity bass, this DEAN sounds really better than any of this three. This DEAN is also easy to play (soft and light).Clear sound with fingers and pick, even have a nice tone for slap (is not a FENDER jazz bass, don't compare). Electronics are OK, no hum, buzz or something like that even after more of 2 years of hard playing and some falls (SQUIER's got really low quality potenciometers). The pickup is really comfortable, but if you can, replace it with a LACE alumitone bass bar 4.0 for an excelent performance.I recomend it not just for begginers, every bass player can use this one without complains... By the way, try it with ROTOSOUND 77 strings.

      Respectable

      By Mr. Leavitt

      from Nampa, ID

Comments about Dean Zone XM Bass Guitar:

I recently received the Dean Zone XM Bass as a gift, and I must say that I love it. Simplistic volume and tone controls dial in the sound you need, and the Soap bar is in the right place, good for pop and slappers, or those who use picks. I did need to make a few adjustments to the bridge, but despite this, i would definitely recommend this bass to both beginners and to vets.
