I bought this pack new from a pawn shop when I started playing 3 years ago. It is still the only bass I practice with every week and play every Sunday, but the amp is seriously NOT a bass amp; the speaker is too small and cheap, and is just not able to handle low frequencies. I complained to the store and got them to trade me a larger used Crate amp, but it too quickly did not perform; you need A LOT of speaker cone area and magnet to handle bass. That said, the bass has been incredibly high quality for the price. I upgraded the strings twice and between my pro amp and high quality strings the bass sounds great. It stays in tune well, is solidly and well built, and has a great finish. I have had absolutely no issues with anything breaking, bowing, etc; quality is perfect. I give the pack a 4 out of 5 for value because it's a great bass for the money, but the amp is whack. I am pleased with my purchase but you WILL need more amp, especially to perform.

I had ordered two from another vendor, same bass, but the Standard with 2 humbuckers. Both had laterally bowed necks. The first ones finger board delaminated from the neck at the Nut end, the replacement, second in a row had the same sideways bow G string side.If not for these issues, which spooked me... into not trying another one when they come in, it would have been an awsome bass. The other pro online reviews were accurate. It lacked a little bit in the High end treble, but mid range and low end were distinctive.Oh well... very surprised at this from Epiphone. Kind of stuff that kills the China import reputation.

broken nut - amp smokes

By riderinthesky

Purchased this same set twice - the first one, the amp started smoking as soon as it was plugged in. The guitar had a broken nut where the neck joined tuners. Returned this package and requested a replacement. Replacement packet amp was good, but had the same problem with the nut. It didn't appear broken, but when trying to tune, the edge broke off just like the other. The dip for the strings is too deep which causes it to break. Manufacturer problem.

Okay

I must say this bass has been challenging in some ways. The E string broke when I was only tuning it however this could be a shipping problem. Then after about ten minutes of play the amp started smoking fortunately it caused no harm to anything and I think this is a rare thing though. All the other parts are wonderful and so is the instrument it self, I mean its not the best but for the price you really can't go wrong. And finally I would say that anyone wanting to start bass could not do any harm in buying this kit it comes with everything including a dvd which I think would be helpful for beginners.

overall good bass

I actually only bought the bass and not the pack but i have almost nothing bad to say about it. I was looking for a backup bass and obviosly the price stood out. I have played it daily since purchasing and had no major problems. it lacks a bit on the high end but is awesome in the middle. it would be nice to have a bit more tone selection but im not complaining.

The Bass is great, but the amp started smoking almost immediatly after plugging it in. I missed my band's vocal tryouts while getting another one! The accessories are great though!!

Nice pack!

By basswhore2000

I bought this Epiphone pack about two years ago and it hasn't failed me yet. I played the amp constantly, and it burnt out just a few months ago. The bass on the other hand sounds very nice and bright and I use it for gigs all the time. I replaced the amp with a much bigger one and I sound great. I've never needed another bass, but the amp you might want to replace once you get a little better.
