This is a great bass with a couple of tweaks. Spend $50.00 bucks (or do it yourself) Switch out the junk pots with CTS 1MGs in the volumes and a 250k in the tone, put in a good cap (I used an orange drop) replace the plastic nut with graphite or bone and do a set up. This Bass comes alive! Sounds as good or better as the GIBSON version for hundreds less and holds its own against many other Basses that are three tinmes the price. Great neck, smooth frets and easy to adjust to you style of playing! This is a Great Bass!

I play in a rock band and when I first got this bass it played great. If i had done this review 6 mos after I got it, it would've gotten a 5 across the board. But about a year after I got it the neck started bowing to side and backwards. I sent it to Gibson and even though it was bowed they just made adjustments & replaced the nut. I played it for a while and it played alright but now i've run out of adjustments and the e string when playing an f or f# buzzes bad so now i'm sending it back to Gibson a second time. I still like epiphone guitars but I gotta tell you i'm overall a little disappointed.

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special Bass with Flame Maple Top:

Have had this bass a while. I am new to the world, but enjoy buying basses that get good reviews. I have the AXL and Gretsch along with an OLP Stingray. I hated this bass initially. The strings were a bit high and I struggled to get sound after this. But, now that I am getting just a bit better at this, suddenly all the reviews from experienced players are making sense. I am enjoying this as my main practice bass as I learn how difficult it is to be proficient. Drums came easy, this is not. I highly recommend this bass for those that like a very versatile bass that sounds good through an acoustic mini stack of a vintage Ampeg SVT set up.

...Best Bang fot the $Buck$...

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special Bass with Flame Maple Top:

I ordered the black flame maple version and absolutely love it. For the price it's hard to beat this baby. With it's set neck and skinner neck, I can say enough about the playability of the bass guitar. It arrived on a timely basics with no damage what so ever. I did order the Epiphone hard case too, which I am sure helped protect it in shipping. The only other things I added were, a set of strap locks, ?black? to match the all black hardware, and a set of DR High Beams - Medium Light Strings (45-65-80-100) I don't think you can go any bigger on strings, with out having the nut worked on. The grooves are kind of small. All I can say is ?she plays like a dream? If you are on a budget like me, give this bass a try...

I purchased this bass in trans black back in December and was so pleased with it that i ordered one in trans red this week and i received it today and couldn't be happier, the picture doesn't do it justice it is a lot better looking than the picture shows, however i do recommend that you go ahead and order new strings and strap locks other than that it is perfect!!!

I had an early 60's Gibson EB-O that I let get away in the early 70's that I am still sick over!
For my 65th birthday last year I broke down and gave myself this Les Paul Special in Cherry.
Other than having to "loctite" the output jack that kept coming loose, this axe has been amazing! The finish is flawless, the sustain is amazing and the neck is at least as good as my old Gibson!BUY THIS GUITAR!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special Bass with Flame Maple Top:

I bought one of these in trans black because I found myself playing in a few bars where they sweep up the eyeballs at closing and I was paranoid about hauling my custom Fender J in such places. I didn't expect much for the price but was very pleasantly surprised at the versatility of this bass. It needed a bit of tweaking on the intonation but other than that it was A-OK out of the box. The set neck really does sustain and if you're looking for a rock bass this is perfect. I have been very pleased with this axe and if I ever have to use it as a shield or club at least I won't be out 4 grand! Buy it, thrash it, love it!

    The Bass From Hell

    By bwpbassist

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special Bass with Flame Maple Top:

Its bad enough that gibson are going down the tubes, but thats nothing compared to these epi's. They're made by Samick! Samick! They have no money to buy decent woods. I have never played an instrument I hated more. It's comparable to Daisy-Rock.

    A solid inexpensive bass

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special Bass with Flame Maple Top:

I got this for Christmas in 2006. The sound on mine is awesome. It has a great low end. The soap bar pickups are nice. The wiring job inside the cavity is clean and neat. My strings were a little flimsy so I replaced them with Slinky Hybrids. The construction is solid but the bass is a little heavy and the neck does dive to the ground when you arn't holding it. I added 1.3 lbs of lead fishing weights to the cavity (wrapped them in electrical tape so they wouldn't move and break any of the wires or solder). It balanced it out a little better but did make it even heavier. I use a cushion strap with it. I tune this bass down to d and c and I love the sound. It is a good deal and a good bass to by if you like the style.

I'm a guitarist who started messing around with home recordings. I wanted to buy a bass (for simple bass riffs) to add to my recordings. I am very happy with my purchase. Great price, good quality and a really beautiful look--Les Paul styled. Based on this purchase, I now find myself intrigued and inspired enough to learn how to really play bass. Thanks, MF!

Comments about Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Special Bass with Flame Maple Top:

I really don't understand why there is all this talk about something being a begining bass or a professional Bass etc. This is a great Bass to have in your arsenal whomever you are. Put some strap locks on it, change the strings and rock on. This Bass is well made, great set up and FUN to play. The pickups sound better then the Gibson Les Paul model and the finish is nicer too. The Gibson has that cheap and cheesy washed stain look, and just lacks the character this baby has, really interesting too for the difference in price. I tried both, could afford either one and hands down liked this model better from the sound and finish to the hardware. The sustain on this thing is UNBELIEVABLE through a good amp! Put this thing in a Coffin case and it really looks awsome!
