I absolutely love this bass!!! The neck pick up can get you pretty close to a P Bass tone and the rest of them are so different from each other that you should be able to dial in exactly what you want. The feel is great - predictably AWESOME Music Man quality! JUST GET IT...you'll be happy. People say that Music Man has a signature sound (which happens to be killer) but with the extra pick up configuration, anything is possible!

I purchased the Stingray5 HH in ivory with a maple neck and matching headstock. I'm not usually a fan of gold hardware but the combination looked excellent. Out of the case the bass was perfect, the only issue was that the action was a little high, no big deal I thought. I adjusted the truss rod and figured that I'd let it sit a day or so to adjust and nothing. I took it to my luthier and his opinion was that the neck was back and would adjust to factory specs. I returned it Oct 26, 2016 and finally cancelled my back order Dec 20, 2016 when the new arrival date was April.

My local GC has the same bass in stock and has the exact same adjustment issue, it might have been a bad batch from the factory, who knows.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 5 HH 5-String Electric Bass:

This bass is a great choice if you are passionate about the low-bass sound and have already mastered the 4-string. I don't recommend learning how to play bass on a 5 string bass because the B-string is like a level up, and will be hard to get used to. This bass is extremely loud! It's even loud when it's played without an amp. I ordered this bass a couple weeks ago and I was very pleased. It comes with a protective hard shell case (the StingRay 5 case shown online) and it is wrapped up and well packaged. The bass is really heavy, but that is just part of having super high quality electronics. I have the 5 HH in stealth black. Before I finally decided on stealth black, I also had other color choices in mind. Just remember that super flashy and sparkly ones may look nice now, but they might be out of fashion in a few years. JUST GO WITH A CLASSIC COLOR like black or sunburst and you won't be let down. Great bass, worth every penny.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 5 HH 5-String Electric Bass:

I ordered this bass in stealth black with an ebony neck a few months ago. The reviews were wonderful, and the YouTube videos I watched of people playing this bass were really impressive. The bass is good quality, and it has a great sound, but I feel like it is over-priced. I thought that it would be worth every penny, but it did not turn out to be as magical as I expected. The harmonics aren't good at all on this bass. My cheap Ibanez Gio 4-string has a better sound, and I would frankly recommend investing in a Fender Precision or Fender Jazz instead. The bass is not poorly designed or anything, but there is a better option out there.

A Dynamic Dynamo!!! But so is the OLP

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 5 HH 5-String Electric Bass:

Over the course of a couple months, I logged hours on this thing at the guitar store. This bass is incredibly dynamic. The Low B-String is deeper and richer and more solid than any other bass I've played. This thing has got lower lows and higher highs than anything, and while this bass can do pretty much anything well, the halmark of a Music Man is definitely slap. Oh sure, J-Bass is my favorite overall, and the J-Bass, P-Bass, and in my opinion, T-Bird, all do slap well, but come on, when you think slap, you think music man.Adding the 5th string allows you get deep down, you can play it aggressive, sure, but it sounds even better when you do the low b gently more for ambience. Also, adding the 2nd pickup and the 5-way switch adds a lot of tone options that approach J-Bass, P-Bass, and of course, traditional music man, among others. You'll be able to kill a lot of time playing the same runs over and over on different pickup settings, factor in the 3 band EQ, and you'll really lose a lot of time! :-)Now, why will I not be buying this delightful bass? Because I bought the OLP MM32, the officially licensed budget version of this same bass (think squier, only for music man). Feature wise, the only thing the missing on the OLP is that the OLP has just a standard nut instead of the (compensating?) nut on the MM that makes the strings so steady. The OLP feels like it's made of lesser grade materials, but in a side by side contest, the sonic similarities are uncanny! Apart for the pickups on the MM having thumb rests instead of the blockier OLP pups, they keep right up there. All for $450 instead of $1600. They're both fantastic instruments. The only significant difference between the two is the price.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 5 HH 5-String Electric Bass:

I have a MM 5 HH and let me tell you, I absolutely love it. I owned a Fender pre-63, and Ibanez 5 and another Fender P and this bass just makes the rest look bad. I tone quality, and the touch on ny 5 is just so smooth and precise. it's also very forgiving, after long gigs and the finger don't press hard enough, the bass still punches out good tones without the buzz. I use Ernie Ball Slinkys and the match should be and is perfect. Whether I'm doing rock, funk, or reggae, this sucker is the bomb. Matched to a Hartke twin 4-10 cabs and Hartke 2400 head, i can load up anywhere. It is pricey, but oh so worth it. I looking at the Bongo 6 now, but this bad boy is hard to put down.

Get one for yourself and you'll see.

The Bass. Period.

By Christopher Williams

from Kentucky

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 5 HH 5-String Electric Bass:

I'm in the Army band. I've been rocking out in the army for two years now, and playing bass for at least 5 years before that. I'm not the most seasoned player, but I've played a lot of different basses in my time and this one really makes it hard to consider needing/wanting any other bass.

This sucker has a full low end that does NOT stop. A tight mid that has me playing "Express Yourself" almost everytime I pick it up because it's such a strong, punchy mid! And the highs are like bells: clear and pure. When I first tested this bass I turned to my girlfriend and said," Did you hear that?!" "Hear...what?" "This note! Seriously, check this out!", and I kid you not, I probably just sat there playing a high "A" for 5 minutes straight. I couldn't believe the sound I was getting!
The range sonically and melodically is outstanding, and overall this is just a very nice package! I have played this bass in every style, I toured it in the states, I brought it on deployment to Afghanistan, and it doesn't quit! This bass made me sell the other 5 basses I owned. Some of which had serious sentimental value...this just didn't come close to this bass!

It's a big price, but you get a WHOLE lot of bass!
Check it out. Play a thumping groove, hit a singing solo, do yourself a favor: give it a shot!
You have a 5th string. 5-way pickup selecting. Active 3-band EQ.

It's got the good essentials you need to hit a gig and hit it hard. No complaints.
Mine was used when I bought it and doesn't look a day old...I've had it for a year!
I am biased as a working musician and bassist. Anyone that plays the low end can tell you all of our gear is way pricier to our guitar-bretherin's prices in most everything. That being said it's common to see a 5 string costing several hundred dollars more than its 4 string counterpart.

I got my MM Stingray5 HH used, it was half the price and played better than the freshly opened MM's on the wall that day. If the price I payed was the price everyone played, we'd all be rocking this beauty. That being said, really, the bass is worth the price. If I had to pay full price, I would have. This bass does everything.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 5 HH 5-String Electric Bass:

It will do whatever you want it to. Every bass sound in my head is in this bass. The 5 way pickup selection and 3 band eq make it easy to do it all. The pickup are sensitive to touch, whether digging in, thumping, slapping, picking or tapping. A good, wide, comfortable strap is a must for the weight and you'll be good to go. MM customer support is top of the line on the slim chance that you need them or just have questions.

Comments about Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray 5 HH 5-String Electric Bass:

Back in the funk era, i saw Lou Johnson and others playing the Music Man and the sound that they produced had me lusting for one for years. So when I could afford it, I bought a 5 string Stingray HH and everything I imagined was totally true. I absolutely love it.I own a '62 pre-CBS Jazz, and Ibanez Silletto, a Kay acoustic 5 string upright and a Stagg electric upright, and except for the Stagg, the rest now live in my storage room. The MM is so powerful, great action, and the flexibility to go from soft jazz, right to string popping funk is a dream come true. Buy one...you won't be disappointed

I have been looking at stingrays for years and bought "Victoria" ( ivory with maple neck and gold hardware) in December on 18 percent off sale. I have settled for less than what I really wanted on most everything my whole life 62 years, And I am glad I did not this time. I have been playing Victoria three times a week for two months now at church and this bass almost plays itself. This is the sixth bass I own and have been playing an ESP surveyor 415 for the last 5 years and I thought that neck was smooth till I played Victoria. Listen if you want an American made instrument that will last you the rest of your life quit reading reviews and buy yourself on of these in the color that pleases you and be done with it.

Hands down the best investment I've ever made. The size was a bit intimidating at first, it's the Texas of bass guitars, but I've yet to put it down. The crisp, clean tone demands attention. Very little tweaking of my head was required as this instrument cuts through the mix perfectly on its own.

This is one of the best Bass Guitars I have ever laid my fingers on. There is a saying here in Tennessee, "when someone buys a Stingray Bass, they keep it". I am amazed at the tone, the feel of the neck, the "no struggle playing action", the quality of craftsmanship involved, not one flaw anywhere and, the guitar case is quality made too. Would I recommend someone layout their money for one of these?....YES. You will never have buyer remorse with this guitar. plus, it will make you become a better player. My compliments to the Ernie Ball Family...you did good!

Picked it up and played it at the store and fell in love with it right away. color was not exactly what i wanted (black/black/rosewood) but who cares. the neck is extremely easy, easier than my geddy lee jazz to an extent. action was great from the factory but a lil adjustment here or there was normal. Surprisingly easy to slap. Live playing is a great experince because i can be heard! especially thru an SVT-4/2x-410 rig. the B is piano- clear and the highs pop right out and the 5-way is the best for on-the-fly adjustments. 5/5 for features because the controls handle everything broadly and precisely as well as the tuning machines, bridge and other hardware are great. this also attributes to the quality. 4.5 for value because you do have to spend but thats everything really but its worth it. Overall, always room for improvement. it has made its home as my primary bass and is highly recommended for those looking for a professional intrument.

I am a professional musician for many years, played lot of basses From the Canadian F bass to and old vintage Fenders.I?m was looking to expend my sound, and I thought this will be a good powerful bass to add to my collection, which it is. I bought the Stingray 5 Hh and found out that the neck was bad.I took it to my guitar teqnition and he suggested that I?ll return it, I got my replacement bass couple weeks ago and the bass was just as bad. So? I might not be the lucky one, but what are the odds of having two stingrays with bad neck? Saying that I found out that Musicman mainly pitching on versatility of sound. Now there?s the hassle of returning it and the aggravation of want it - but not to sure anymore. I will probably stick to it my Pedulla and Other quality basses I have. I gave the bass 5 on features cause despite everything I thing it is a great sounding bass. I just wish they would carefully look at their quality.

I have toured, and performed with the Musicman Stingray HH for 2 years. It still sounds and looks just like new. I love the playability. It has a thin neck and lightweight body, making it easy to play for hours. The amount of sounds you can get out of this bass are great, the two hummbuckers can be run together or separate, to get rock, stinky funk, and smooth mellow tones. Its really responsive and warm sounding. I have loved this bass from day 1, and still going strong.

I bought this bass for recording in the studio. What a great investment. This bass has great tone which can be adjusted to any sound you want using the onboard EQ. Being a Ken Smith player, which is my bass of choice, this Music man bass adds to my arsenal and delivers a great sound.
