OVERVIEW

It only sounds expensive.

Small in price, but big on tone, the ESP LTD B-104 Bass is a perfect bass guitar for someone looking for an interesting looking axe that is not too over-the-top. Fat, beveled edges accentuate the basswood body's curves. Combined with the elongated upper horn, deep cutaway of the much smaller lower horn, unique angular cut at the end of the fretboard, shapely headstock, and chrome hardware, the LDT B-104 bass exudes high-class style. But all that flair would be nothing if it didn't have a sound to match. Not to worry because it definitely delivers a mean punch with dual ESP SB-4 pickups and ESP ABQ-2 2-band active EQ. The B-104 also features a thin, bolt-on, U-shaped maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, 24 XJ frets, ESP tuners, and ESP DB-4 bridge.

Case sold separately.

Comments about ESP LTD B-104 Bass Guitar:

OK ? admitting is the first step! I?ve played bass for many years before switching to guitar and back again. I always played basses with big, chunky necks ? Thunderbirds, Ibenez DB-800X, SG and umpteen-eleventy bazillion P basses and P knockoffs. When I picked up the ESP, LTD B-104 however, I was hooked. I really looked it over for fit and finish and loved everything I saw and I was amazed at how much I loved the feel. Played without an amp, this bass is very friendly; it?s smooth, fast and easy ? it fits very comfortably in your hands. Played through an amp?.hang on to your butt; this little puppy has teeth! The tone is incredible. The active electronics give the B-104 a wide tonal range that suits just about any kind of music ? especially the aggressive stuff!! I play everything from classic hard rock to hair band metal to modern alternative and I never have to touch my preamp ? I get everything I need from on-board ABQ-2 2-band active EQ. A tweak here and there and I?m ready for the next song! I can?t say enough good things about this bass ? I am hooked on ESP.

    Blown Away!!!

    By Sergio Azevedo

Comments about ESP LTD B-104 Bass Guitar:

I can't tell you how surprised I am by this guitar. Who would've thought that I could get such a well built, solid-feeling bass for under this much?!?! This is the first bass I've ever purchased, so I have nothing to compare it to, other than my 5 other guitars, but man am I impressed with it. It really feels like it should have cost way more than what I paid for it.

The neck is super smooth and fast. I only get some wrist strain when playing in the first few frets, but that's because I have small hands and I'm not really used to playing bass, just yet. My 7 string ESP causes the same pain. The controls work nearly perfectly (the bass knob sticks a bit, but that's no bigger) and the sound coming through it is totally on point. I was a little concerned with the color as what you see on a screen is rarely what you see in real life, but it's actually pretty nice. I wouldn't get a regular guitar in the same color, but it really works for the bass. It adds to the funk.

I've only played it through my MPB/GarageBand, but will be picking up an amp within the next couple months. I've noticed a little bit of fret buzz, but that could be due to me just hitting strings too hard or in the wrong way (Still learning, here!). I'll eventually get it set-up the way I like and maybe change the strings, but what's on there works for me.

All in all, this is an absolutely perfect bass for anyone just getting started. It feels great. It plays great. The value is just undeniable!

Comments about ESP LTD B-104 Bass Guitar:

First off, dont let the color or the basswood full you. It is a much darker purple in person and the grade of basswood gets amazing tone quality. I put in emg 35 hzs and this thing rips now. Even with out the emgs it almost sounded like a p/j bass. Esp forever!

Comments about ESP LTD B-104 Bass Guitar:

I actually don't have this EXACT bass, but I have pretty much the same thing. I own the B-154, which I guess has been recently discontinued, and which I'm pretty sure is the exact same thing (same price and all), except mine has a flamed, transparent blue finish instead of the sparkle finishes of this newer model. Anyway, I was suprised because I'm not really a fan of ESP guitars, but I was super stoked by their basses. Especially this "B Series". The weight and contour of the body make it perfectly balanced. The regular bolt-on neck that comes with this bass is awesome, too (especially compared to the necks of other brand's basses in this price range). Very smooth & fast. My B-154 had perfect action out of the box, as well. The 2 band active EQ sounds fantastic, definitely better than passive pickups, and I can't tell too much of a difference between them and active 3-band pickups. I was shopping around for basses in at this price range to about $100 more expensive, so I can tell you with confidence that you should compare this one to basses that are almost twice as expensive...not basses in it's actual price range. This bass (along with some of the Peavey basses) represents what I've found to be the best combo of price value & quality/features. Buy it!

    Worth more than new price.

Comments about ESP LTD B-104 Bass Guitar:

This bass is absolutely worth every penny. I find myself going to it more than American made basses sometimes. If you want a lightweight bass with a super thin neck and some growl, this is the way to go. The only reason it's not 5/5 is some neck dive. But it's so light that any good strap will negate that.

Comments about ESP LTD B-104 Bass Guitar:

I purchased this bass back when I was 15 and just starting on the instrument, and let me tell you, this is still one of the best basses I've ever played. I now own 3 basses and this is STILL the one I go to time and time again to play shows. I purchased an ampeg BA115HP about 3 years ago and I can say if you pair this bass with a nice rig like that, you'll be able to compete with the best of 'em out there. my guitarists play on 5150's and this thing cuts RIGHT through. BUY. THIS. BASS.

Comments about ESP LTD B-104 Bass Guitar:

I purchased this bass at a local music store about 2 hours ago and man! I just stopped playing it, only to write a review about how amazing it is! Its much more beautiful in person, the price is outstanding(the store matched MF's price), and the sound is crisp, clear, and defined. And I'm even playing it out of a regular guitar amp! I'm going to purchase a good Peavy rig or something within this week so I'll most likely love it even more by then... BUY THIS BASS!!!

Comments about ESP LTD B-104 Bass Guitar:

I've had my B-104 for 9 years and have had absolutly NO problems with it at all what so ever. By far the best bass at the best value. I can't believe they're basically the same price now as they were back then. It's definitely worth a lot more. Whether you're just starting out or have been playing for a long time you can not go wrong with this bass.

Comments about ESP LTD B-104 Bass Guitar:

I have an Ibanez GSR200, and have been looking into getting this bass...I played it at a local music store, and was blown away. It is fantastic. The only beef I have with it, is that I play Death/Thrash metal, and the glossy purple isn't the best looking color... but as long as I get that out of the way, I love this bass.

Comments about ESP LTD B-104 Bass Guitar:

at first i did not want a bass like this b/c it looks more like a "metal" instrument but, i have to say it's the best bass i've ever played the neck is thin, smooth and fast and the body is not heavy at all the action is the main thing that i like about this bass, i normally play short neck bass guitars b/c of their great action and weight, i own an epiphone s.g bass and i love the ltd b-104 better that it.

Comments about ESP LTD B-104 Bass Guitar:

I am a drummer by trade and have wanted to buy a bass for a few years but always seemed to put it off. Recently, however, I needed a bass for a school musical I am directing and began to seriously look around for a quality instrument that I would enjoy. My decision to go with the B-104 was a good one. Right out of the box it is completely playable (It was even nearly in tune). I put GHS Boomer Mediums (45-105) on it adjusted the actions slightly, and now it truely sings. It has a super fast neck and the active pick-ups sound nice and full. If you are interested in getting an instrument that plays well and won't break the bank, this is a serious contender.

Comments about ESP LTD B-104 Bass Guitar:

I just recently picked up this bass at a local music store. It is an amazing bass for the price. The only downside that I came across was that the one I purchased has a small scratch on it, but it isn't that noticeable. Also, it has active pickups, and the cover over the battery was hard to remove. Other than that, it is one awesome bass guitar.

Comments about ESP LTD B-104 Bass Guitar:

The GoodTone is phenomenal for such an inexpensive bass, The neck is blazing fast and the electronics are perfect, the active EQ gives You a tonal range that You can't get with passive basses. The BadOnly has one volume so You can't play with each pickup separately, but not a big deal.Other ThoughtsI don't know why MF has "short on scale" listed on the site as that's standard scale. The purple is a little brighter then what is pictured, so the B-104 actually looks nicer in person then on the site. The strings blow (too bright) so You may want to change them.Mine required ZERO set up out of the box other then a quick string change Simply put, active electronics, wicked fast neck and great tone make this a need to have bass.
