Comments about Fender '50s Precision Bass:

Best P-Bass I;ve ever owned and I had them all from the 70's models to the Japanese to the U.S.A to the mexican. This Bass exceeds in sound quality and looks. My favorite feature are the reversed tuning pegs.I could do away w/the gold anodized p-guard for a white one but for now it's ok.The sound is what's most important.I play it through a Fender bassman 250/210 combo(Another nice product)and kiks proverbial butt!

Comments about Fender '50s Precision Bass:

This is a no frills "meat and potato" P-Bass but built superbly and great sounding --- no mods needed here , can't beat it for the price . I also have a Vintage '64 Jazz Bass and a Custom Shop Vintage Jazz which I'm a little more protective of so the Precision is the one I carry into bars and other venues .

Nirvana, Renunciation, & Love

By cnorden

from Moscow ID

Comments about Fender '50s Precision Bass:

An outstanding instrument, one of two P-basses I've settled in with after literally decades of hopping around with one bass after another. Beautifully solid instrument, great intonation, and killer deep tones, plus nice but fat highs. Only complaint is the tuners, which were very sloppy at the outset, very approximate instead of being precise, though they have settled in a bit after a year or so--the more you use them, the quicker they seem to settle in. Provided you're OK with fairly wide string spacing (I am), this is a beautiful, super high quality instrument, with unparalled tone. Same as other reviewers, I say Viva Mexico; this is as good a Fender bass as I'll ever want or need, better than many of the American versions I've played, both tone, precise tolerances on neck & pickup, finish, neck (especially!), and general workmanship.

One Great P-Bass

By Billy-Bob

Comments about Fender '50s Precision Bass:

After going through several P-basses, this is the one I have been looking for. Excellent craftsmanship, great fit, finish, feel and tone. If you are looking for a real Fender P-bass, start with this one, you'll save yourself a lot of searching.

Good Bass, Good Value

By frankensteinvswolfman

from baltimore, md

Comments about Fender '50s Precision Bass:

My '50s P Bass just arrived. The neck shape is wide and medium deep. The piece of maple has alot of grain character and a vintage amber tint to the thick poly finish. The body is medium-light in weight with a really nice glossy poly finish in which I can find no flaws. The stock hardware is sturdy and well installed. The reverse vintage tuners will take a minute to get used to I think but they are solid and tight. My only real gripe is the pickup. It sounds just like a P Bass should but it was a little cock-eyed coming right out of the box. I own a screwdriver so no big deal. Otherwise the factory set up is great; straight neck, low action, good intonation. The bass was almost still in tune. I don't think "for the money" should even need to be mentioned. This is a good sounding, good playing, good looking, well made traditional P Bass that just happens to be very reasonably priced. Don't be afraid of the "Made in Mexico" either. The '50s P Bass is a solid 4.5 out of 5.

Comments about Fender '50s Precision Bass:

Great Bass. I've been playing professionally since I was 14 years old and let's say I'm mildly seasoned. I started with P basses back in 74... Oops! Any way, I love these basses. They're on par with my 74, and 78, and I don't have to worry about somebody ripping a vintage bass at gigs. I got 2 of these actually. First one I bought in like 93-94 when they were made in Japan instead of Mexico, I put Quarter Pounders in it but it wasn't much of a difference. It didn't NEED pick ups, but you know. Quality, fit and finish was top notch on both. I guess my only gripe if I had one is the fact it comes with a gig bag instead of a case (Who started this s#$t) but since the bass is so reasonably priced, you should be able to buy a nice (Fender) case with some of the cash you saved. Also, when recording, I rarely (never) use this bass. Preferring an old Jazz bass. But live, the P Bass is the one. I highly suggest and recommend it. Buying the case and the bass.

INCREDIBLE Bass Guitar. Best bang for the buck!

By TheReaganEighties

Comments about Fender '50s Precision Bass:

I started out playing Fender Precision Basses about 7 years ago. I've tried Gibson, Hofner, Music Man, and everything in between. I always came back to the goold old Precision bass. Right now, I own an old Squier Precision, an '01 Standard Precision (which I outfitted with Duncan humbuckers), an '87 Jazz, and the new 50's Precision. The 50's Precision is far and away the best bass I've ever tried. Its neck is extremely comfortable, despite being thicker than today's Standard Precision neck (and far wider than the Jazz neck). Its softened D-shape relaxes the fingers and makes reaching the frets exremely easy. I'm only 5'6", and I have extremely tiny hands. Take my tiny-fingered word for it when I say this bass's neck is lightning-fast! The finished maple makes playing smoother than on today's satin-finish necks and allows for a brighter, punchier sounds similar to a Jazz Bass. But don't worry--the bottom-end, resonant characteristic P-Bass tone comes through loud and clear. The result is a far more articulate (but no less warm) tone. Best of both worlds! Moreover, the added weight of the neck counteracts the body's weight, allowing for a more natural position when playing. The tuning machines are vintage-style and extremely tight (though they're not post-tapered). It's very difficult to knock this baby out of tune. The vintage-style pickups give a "thump" that modern pickups, even the Duncan SPB-3s, don't match. As far as craftsmanship, this is as good as any American-made I've ever played. The laquer is perfect, the body is beautiful and resonant. It sports Fender's old "spaghetti" style logo. It fits the '57 Precision's profile perfectly (even has a shallower "comfort curve"!). The gold anodized pickguard, the sunburst finish... it's my perfect bass. And I didn't have to spend thousands of dollars! If you're considering buying a Precision, BUY THIS ONE. You won't be disappointed. The only changes I made were adding a vintage "ash-tray" bridge cover, strap-locks and a thumb-rest. You might want to tweak the depth of the pickups and the action at the bridge. In my opinion, this bass guitar is absolutely perfect... eleven out of ten.

Comments about Fender '50s Precision Bass:

When I bought this guitar I did not expect it to be like the one I had twenty years ago, but was I shocked when I started playing this axe. It felt like an old friend had come home. This is the one I play when I hit the stage, forget about the bass with the battery, no worry about losing power in the middle of a proformance. The quaility on this bass was execellent, made in mexico or not. Don't hesitate to buy one of these if you are a little short on cash. I have the sunburst with gold metal pickguard, beautiful guitar. Great player and a nice sound.

Comments about Fender '50s Precision Bass:

I have been playing one of these for two years. This is a very well built bass. I too changed the pups to fenders and this thing growls. Been playing bass for thirty years, and this is a lot of bang for the buck. It does have that vintage feel.

Comments about Fender '50s Precision Bass:

Just bought this. Even though it's made in Mexico, this P-bass is killer. I got the honey blonde version. Absolutely beautiful. I swapped out the pickups for Nordstrands and replaced the bridge with a Badass II, but that's just my preference. Very good bass.

Comments about Fender '50s Precision Bass:

wow, this bass is an amazing value:) I just recently purchased one for christmas, I traded in my peavey 6 string for this bass and it was probably the best decision I have ever made. Not only does in look beautiful (honey blonde version), but it sounds even better. From it's high twangy sounds to it's low thunder sounds, this bass's tone is just awesome. I rated it 4.5 for features because it only has only two knobs, but despite only having these two knobs, you can make it sound just about any way you want it to. I am a slap bassist, but I also love my low end thumps, so this bass fits me perfectly. Beautiful sounding and looking bass for an amazing value!!! GO BUY ONE!!!:)

Comments about Fender '50s Precision Bass:

I've been playing bass for 26 years and have a nice collection of basses, including a few very nice vintage Fenders from the 60's and and 70's. My favorite, however, has always been the '57 "reissue" P-Bass I bought new in 1983. That bass and I have played in bands ranging from new wave to country and everything in between. It bass sounds great, plays great, and records like a dream. In the past few years I've tried about 4-5 times to find another reissue that came close to it. Nothing has measured up...until this bass! It is scary that a bass that sells for less than half of what a new reissue costs comes so close. This bass may be made in Mexico but the workmanship is awesome: the neck is flat and wide, the body is lightweight alder and produces lots of high-mid growl, and the hardware and electronics are sturdier and better-sounding than I had ever anticipated. As far as P-basses go, this is very certainly the best "bang for your buck" there is!

Comments about Fender '50s Precision Bass:

This bass was as close as I could find to my dream Fender: Fiesta Red finish with maple fingerboard. I'm a Fender devotee, so my review may be positively biased.
The Precision Bass remains largely unchanged for over 50 years because the design is about as good as it can get. The pickup on this 50's Classic is pure, noiseless, definitive P-Bass tone. The reverse tuners were a surprise to me, but only took a few seconds to get used to. I didn't care for the texture of the anodized gold pickguard, so I swapped it for a modern 1-layer black one and it looks perfect to me. The contrast of the finish, pickguard, and fingerboard is striking.
Good looks aside, this bass has everything you'd expect from a Fender Precision: tons of that SWEET tone, and a spacious neck. I understand the truss rod adjustment is at the heel of the neck for authenticity, but it sure is inconvenient. Fortunately, my Fenders rarely require any adjustment there. Reliability, performance, and style are what I love about them.
