Comments about Fender American Special Jazz Bass:
This bass is a great addition to the Fender line: great craftsmanship, simple and elegant execution of an all-time classic. The neck is about as perfect as they get--slim, fast, and responsive. For the price, I don't think there's a better iteration of the Jazz anywhere.

Comments about Fender American Special Jazz Bass:
I'd been kicking around buying a fender bass for years and made the plunge on this model. I've owned several brands; esp, schecter, ibanez, and a few others that will remain safely anonymous. =) In my opinion, if you are looking for that classic fender tone, you can only get it with a fender. That being said, when looking at a Fender there are a few considerations to make; MIA, MIM, MIJ, New or Used? This model is a great MIA for a "moderate" price. It's a bit heavier than other basses, but far lighter than my MIM 'P' bass. The first thing I did when I bought mine was order a Hipshot bridge and Bass extender. I put the bass extender on every bass I own (it's a great investment) The stock bridge is plenty good in this case. (again, classic fender Tone) Over all, this is a great bass, sound engineers will love you. (industry standard for 50+ years)
Pros
- Fun To Play

Comments about Fender American Special Jazz Bass:
I wanted a jazz bass to get more tonal variety than my P bass could provide. I wanted an American made model but did not want to spend that amount so I was considering a MIM model. The American special jazz bass seems to me to be the middle of the road model. The pickups put out so much more than the MIM and the neck is also better. The bridge is compariable to the MIM model which did not bother me all that much. I played the MIM, MIA and MIA Special all at the same time and decided on the special. I prefer rosewood fretboards to maple so I bought the white one. I must say I really enjoy playing the bass and love the tone. I play in a band that plays a very wide variety of music and this bass will work for all. I am very happy I purchased the American Special Jazz bass.
Comments about Fender American Special Jazz Bass:
I wanted to like the American Jazz Standard better; I've been looking for an American Jazz for a couple years now. As always, i'll shop around for an instrument i instantly connect with. So i tend to play several of the same model before i buy. But, this was the first American Special i pulled off the rack. The neck on these instruments is very, very good - solid, sleek, and very fast. It fits like a glove. The thinner radius really makes a difference. The setup was very good (perfect and needed no adjustment). I purchased a black jazz, with a maple neck. The maple does NOT make this intstrument overly bright as i thought it might. To my ears, it makes the bass bite just a little bit more, and the tone more focused. If anything, very ideal for a great rock sound. And a step up from my rosewood necks. I A/B'd the Special next to the American Standard and liked this instrument better!! I played through the same amplifier, BUT the Special did have the maple neck. The tone from the Special seemed a little hotter, and with more bite. Great! The neck felt even better than the Standard. The only "downfall" i could see was the cheaper fretmarkers on the side of the neck (looked like Sharpie dots), and the Special comes with a gig bag-instead of hardshell. I really wanted to buy a genuine American Standard, but IMO the Special was equal or better than the Standard. Check it out!

This one is the best value out there. Lows are deep, Highs are crisp. The only down side is the weight. 10lbs. 8-9 is normal for this type of bass. Other than that, best bass I ever played.
Comments about Fender American Special Jazz Bass:
I picked this up at a local GC and it sounded amazing. The tone was better then the MIM and it sounded just like the MIA. Its too much for my budget right now but the cost of this bass is worth it. Has great playability, the pick ups sound fantastic. It's pretty light weight, which is always good. The slap tone was very clear and had a punch as well as the pop tone. I would definitely recommend to the musician on a budget since this bass is extremeley awesome. Still a lot of money, but it's all worth every penny.
