Comments about Fender American Standard HH Dimension Bass IV Maple Fingerboard Electric Bass Guitar:

I got this American Standard Dimension Bass IV on the 'Stupid Deal of the Day'. A chance to get a new American Fender for less than a grand, and I just love a maple fretboard - I had to! (I swear!). I have many basses, lots of Fender P & J, one other American (P-V) to compare to. This bass has the great finish and detail I expect from an American Fender. The hand-rubbed oil neck back is wonderful. It's better looking than in the pictures! It feels great and seems a little lighter than a usual P or J bass. As advertised, the new neck profile and radius do make it comfortable and easy (and Fun!) to play. The noiseless aspect of the pickups is great, the bass is free of noise. The sound is a little brighter than I had anticipated but I always use the tone shaping of my amp and got some very nice sounds from this. I need to play a new instrument for about 6 months for a final verdict, but I am using and enjoying this bass quite a bit (I play in several bands and gig and/or practice 4-5 time a week). I expect it will be great for recording (I generally use my American Fender P-V for five string recording). Wasn't sure what to expect as the info wasn't complete; it came with the covered wooden fender case (in black) with a strap and cord. I prefer the tough plastic case. My only other issue was the fret dressing was not consistent with my expectations for an American instrument; you could feel the roughness along the edges which detracted from the otherwise wonderfully smooth neck finish. All in all though I feel like with was a SMART deal of the day! A great, fun to play, good-for-anything quality instrument!

Comments about Fender American Standard HH Dimension Bass IV Maple Fingerboard Electric Bass Guitar:

Got an excellent deal from MF! Purchased an open box unit which was flawless. Always wanted an American Standard instrument. This one is white with black highlights and came ready to play out of the box. Feels beautiful in the hands and I love the neck. Very nice Fender case. Good tone; works well with my Fender Rumble 500 and matching Fender 15 inch cabinet. Controls are a bit touchy near maximum volume. Quality and workmanship seem top notch.
    Thanks, MF!

Good construction, played nice, was not into the tone it produced. I exchanged it with a deluxe 5HH dimension which has more versatile tones.

Comments about Fender American Standard HH Dimension Bass IV Maple Fingerboard Electric Bass Guitar:

I like this bass a lot. Criticisms are minor (for me) and pointed out here for those to whom it might matter more. I did a direct comparison to the Jazz, Precision, Gibson SG bass and Rick 4003s as well as a few other lesser known instruments in my stable. I have play for many years in a classic rock band in mostly smaller clubs.

The contoured body is a welcome carry over from other Fender solid body basses. Like those, the balance is excellent with no neck dive. High mass bridge allows for good intonation and action adjustment.. Pegs are smooth and hold tune very well. Fret finishing is excellent as was the overall fit and finish of the entire instrument.

I find the satin finish maple neck and finger board very comfortable. Neck width is slightly wider that the Jazz (closer to the Precision) but narrower that the chunkier Rick. The truss rod adjusts at the body via a wheel that can be easily turned with a narrow allen wrench WITHOUT loosening strings or removing the pick guard! Much easier and allows for a stronger headstock. This base has 21 frets instead of the 20 on the J or P basses.

Welcome addition are the gloriously powerful and SILENT humbucking pickups. Much more powerful that any of the comparative basses and much more silent than the noisy Rick PUs. You won't get quite the high end of the Jazz, but it can still slap and pop with the best of them. PU heigh can be easily adjusted. A bit more work that The tone is great for my style of playing.

One master tone may limit some other players. Like the Jazz, there is no PU switch. Instead, there is a volume pot for each PU. It's great for dialing in a blend. But, you need to turn down both volumes to silence this bass. Not an issue for me. But other players might prefer a master volume which would allow you to dial in that PU mix and leave it alone to turn off the volume.

Comments about Fender American Standard HH Dimension Bass IV Maple Fingerboard Electric Bass Guitar:

I will use this for my regular gigs as my go to bass. I've been playing a Lakland Skyline 44-01 since 2012, but it just became my backup bass. It plays like a dream. It needed some minor adjustments but it's ready to go now. I am a Fender guy since the 60's. I was playing my 75 Fender Jazz at gigs but stopped for fear of losing it. Too many people noticed it was a vintage bass. I will keep my eyes and hands on this new Fender Dimension of which I am very proud to own for a very long time.

Fender really raised the bar with these American Standard Dimensions. Tone and feel is incredible. I prefer this bass over my Jazz and Precision basses because it has an incredible passive tone. Plug and rock!!!
