OVERVIEW

A modernized classic with all the right moves from Fender.

Fender's American Standard Jazz Bass fretless scored a giant bass hit with its introduction in 1960. With its sleek offset body; thin, fast neck and rich, growling tone, it was a raring, roaring racecar of a bass that quickly established itself as a must-have instrument. The new American Standard Jazz Bass fretless is an even finer instrument; a modern interpretation of a classic built for modern players.

Features include a high-mass vintage bridge, Fender Custom Shop '60s Jazz Bass single-coil pickups, thinner finish undercoat that lets the body breathe and improves resonance, improved Fender tuners that are 30 percent lighter while keeping the classic look, richer and deeper neck tint for a more elegant appearance, great-looking gloss rosewood fingerboard, satin neck back for smooth playability and Fender Tolex case.

Beautiful, but not a "Trophy Wife!" This bass is great quality. Very happy.

Comments about Fender American Standard Jazz Bass Fretless:

Bought an "open box" version of this bass, which is now discontinued in lieu of the new "American Professional" series. Seized the opportunity to get one of these at a nice discount as the new models don't have enough extra (in my opinion) to spend the extra $$ on the new models (although i do appreciate the new colors they're adding).

The bass plays amazingly. The neck is a thing of beauty, the j-bass shape you'd expect, but with a wonderful satin (smooth) finish treatment, I have no trouble sliding up and down with ease. The pickups sound fantastic, and i wouldn't change anything about this bass. I exclusively play flat wounds (and have for 20+ years) and this is the first bass I've ever owned where I didn't immediately need to go put a set of my usual D'Addario Chromes (100-80-60-40) strings on it. The Fender Flat Wound strings that came with it are fantastic -- it's nice to not have to immediately spend $$ right out of the box with a new bass. The Fender strings are allegedly the same gage (100-90-60-40) as my usual "custom light" Chromes, but feel lighter.
