OVERVIEW

A modernized classic with all the right moves from Fender.

Fender's American Standard Jazz Bass scored a giant bass hit with its introduction in 1960. With its sleek offset body; thin, fast neck and rich, growling tone, it was a raring, roaring racecar of a bass that quickly established itself as a must-have instrument. The new American Standard Jazz Bass is an even finer instrument; a modern interpretation of a classic built for modern players.

Features include a high-mass vintage bridge, Fender Custom Shop '60s Jazz Bass single-coil pickups, thinner finish undercoat that lets the body breathe and improves resonance, improved Fender tuners that are 30 percent lighter while keeping the classic look, richer and deeper neck tint for a more elegant appearance, great-looking gloss maple fingerboard, satin neck back for smooth playability and Fender Tolex case.

Comments about Fender American Standard Jazz Bass with Maple Fingerboard:

I have had a love / hate relationship with Fender Jazz basses my whole 30+ years of playing. My first "real" bass was a 1993 MIA Am Std Jazz that I had until I sold it in 2011. My main bass is a 2008 Am Std Precision bass that is just perfect in every way. I always tended to come back to that bass for every gig - always brought it, even if it was for back up, and always ended up playing it. Until this puppy...

The new 2012 Jazz basses feel amazing. It's actually lighter than my 2008 P-Bass. The neck feels already worn in due to the satin back. And it is fast! The case is amazing (who says that?!?) and the finish is top notch. The Custom Shop pickups, however, are the big difference. My problem with Jazz basses in the past was the the "thin-ness" of the tone. These pickups get more than enough bottom end while maintaining the Jazz punch.

These are a little more expensive than Am Std Jazzes of the past, but I feel like they are completely worth it. I've played this next to a other premium basses ($2K+) basses and this one stands up and is a great deal overall.

Bottom line, if you are still looking for your number one, go to bass, the 2012 Fender American Standard Jazz is waiting for you.

Comments about Fender American Standard Jazz Bass with Maple Fingerboard:

SIMPLY PUT, MOST INCREDIBLE BASS GUITAR I'VE PLAYED IN 35 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE. OUT OF THE BOX ACTION WAS A LITTLE HIGH FOR ME,(PERFECT FOR SOME,I LIKE LOW), ADJUSTED THE BRIDGE, PLAYS LIKE NO OTHER. THE TONE FROM THE CUSTOM SHOP 60'S PICKUPS IS POWERFUL, YET SMOOTH. VERSATILE ENOUGH TO DO ANY GENRE.GROWLS WHEN YOU NEED IT.HIGH DEFINITION BASS GUITAR COMPARED TO OTHERS.

Comments about Fender American Standard Jazz Bass with Maple Fingerboard:

i've been playing bass for 17 years. the last 7 professionally, multiple national tours, i've been on tour in japan, and own a slew of basses. prior to obtaining my am std jazz w/ maple fretboard my main player was a am std p bass w/ maple fretboard. i can't begin to explain how much i love my jazz bass. i picked mine up used via a trade on a peavey cirrus that i just wasn't digging. the peavey's electronics were failing and i didn't like the tone. once i aquired the jazz i never looked back. mine's a '07 or '08, i dont have it with me to confirm via serial # but somewhere in there. it's awesome though. the neck feel, the ease of set up, just wow. i've played several am std jazz since aquiring mine but they don't compare. i still use my p-bass from time to time when i'm looking for a specific tone but like the feel of the jazz more. these basses are built to last and can take a thrashing and still maintain their tonal integrity. just beautiful instruments. i'm also sponsored by emg so i swapped out the originals for the emg j-set. however the originals are awesome but i just really like the boosted output of active electronics.

Comments about Fender American Standard Jazz Bass with Maple Fingerboard:

I have a P-bass, gibson t-bass and 6 other basses and this is the sound I have been craving. My am std deluxe and am std p-bass are still in my arsenal of
awesome, but have been regulated to backup status. I changed to D'Addario flat wound chromes and then "crack" the barrier dropped and "the sound" we all want sprung forth. Thank you musicians friend and the awesomely cool people at fender for crafting and selling this bass. I am officially jazzed for life. Rock on brother's.

Comments about Fender American Standard Jazz Bass with Maple Fingerboard:

When you spend serious green on an American Standard you expect excellence. The action was terrible out of the box and the A string buzzed beyond belief. I called fender and was told it was "normal" due to the width at the nut. Well, nice story but when I had a pro setup my very experienced guy said the nut was poorly cut and the neck behind the nut nicked in the process. He had to fill it in a place a small amount of foam behind the nut to get the buzzing to stop. My guess is that the Christmas rush at the factory and the Sale led to sloppy work due to the numbers produced. My Indonesian G & L Tribute was better put together. Sad.

Comments about Fender American Standard Jazz Bass with Maple Fingerboard:

This American Jazz Bass was marked as "blemished" and I cannot find any on it.
I can see that someone else opened it, and tried it, but it looks perfect to me!
This is one of several open box deals I've gotten from MF and I have been very happy with each one.
