I have the American Jazz Bass in Vintage Sunburst with a maple fretboard. Fender has certainly made huge improvements in quality control with this new series of American instruments. The fretwork and setup were perfect right out of the box, the finish looks great (and classic with the tortoise shell pickguard) and the knobs are smooth and straight (finally!). The neck is the most comfortable Jazz Bass neck I?ve ever played. It seems thinner than previous models and the glossy finish is different. It actually lets your hand slide up and down the neck rather than cause drag as previous finishes did. The one surprising flaw in the bass is the body routing for the bridge pickup. The cutout for the bridge pickup is simply too large. It forms a noticeable gap around the pickup in the body. I can easy fit a nickel in the gap around all sides of the bridge pickup. I can even see sawdust in there. The cutout is straight and even, but just too large. I went to the store to see if other new American Jazz Basses had the same problem, and they did. I?ve never seen this before, so I hope Fender corrects it (it?s probably just a setting on the routing machine). If you don?t mind that one flaw, the bass is awesome. It?s also surprisingly light for a Jazz Bass and pretty well-balanced. Finally, Fender really hit a home run with the new SKB cases. Perfectly balanced, light, super-comfortable rubberized handle, and great latches. Fix the body routing and this bass will go from almost perfect, to perfect.

I was surprised at the build and materials problems this bass has. It looks nice, but on closer examination there's a huge grain fault through the neck at about the 5th fret which, aside from being unsightly, will eventually turn into a neck warp or twist. This should not have passed QC. The centerline alignment of neck, bridge and pickups are off to a degree that can't quite be corrected with the available methods of adjustment. These are not the only problems, but they are the most obvious.Considering the price, this is pretty poor execution.

Comments about Fender American Standard Jazz Bass:
Want a great American hard hitting bass. This is it. The 2012 model hits a little harder with the custom shop pickups, but his baby rocks just as hard and a little sweeter. You can find some extra bass if you roll down the front voume just a little bit. Turn off the 2nd volume and tone.
I like Fender 9150 flatwounds. Sometimes I stop and think wow what a beautiful guitar. Mine is Blizzzard Pearl, gorgeous. I have adjust just like the book, I went through it twice about a week apart. This second tweek setteled in real nice. If a guy could love something as much as a Harley this is it. You'll love it. May take some time for your hands to build the strenght, but when it comes you'll have a blast. I perfer open back cabintes. This bass is very clean, I play through a Vox pathfinder with an 8 speaker.
Sounds great. If you need more bass get it from the amp. This bass is very trebly, great for slpapping and funk, but I know how good it records. I don't slap but funk out on occasion.
I play with my 2 fingers ans sometimes thumb. I wish this model had a thumbrest just between the front pickup and the neck near the low E string.
I also got the Jade Pearl 2012 with the 64 custom shop pickups. It hits a little harder, the neck wood is darker and prettier, it's ajusted to factory specs, great bounce back. Good Luck

Comments about Fender American Standard Jazz Bass:
Ok, so I made the speech on another review about the Mex. P Bass being better quality now. I have owned a few Fender imports over the years, but not the same quality level as U.S. Fender. The import Fenders are much better now than they used to be, but the American Fenders are in a different class. I could go on and on with the features, but I will just say that once I picked up the 2011 U.S. Standard J. Bass in Blizzard Pearl/Maple @ the local music store I fell in love. I purchased it for my permanent collection. The quality is amazing, the sound and durability are great. The materials and craftsmanship speak for themselves... If you can afford it, get the U.S. Fenders !!

Get this bass if you want a good one!
The first time I picked my new ASJB was at Mona Davis Recording Studios in Munich, Germany. It was for a Bluegrass Music project so there were no drums or heavy effects, just the tone of the bass and it was immediatly plain to all that this ASJB was fine. The comments from other musicians and producers present reinforced what I myself was feeling, 'this bass has the unique distinction of being perfect for my needs, I like it in every way'.

My wife bought this Jazz bass for me in 2007 as a Christmas present (because I kept asking for one) and I'll never get rid of it. I liked the Deluxe too, but thought the only real difference was the position markers and we didnt need to spend the extra money and I'm not the least bit disappointed!
I really like the narrow neck (short fingers) and the fit and finish is pretty good except for the body / neck joint which seems a little big. Anyway its solid and it definately stays in tune. I play it live and it sounds excellent thru my Ashdown ABM 500 EVO II rig with their Deep Bass 4-10 cabinet.
My Jazz has the maple neck with the butterscotch finish on the body its really nice looking. Big bottom end, crisp top end, easy neck to play and it isnt too heavy. The really nice thing is that there doesnt seem to be any dead spots along the neck unlike my 2005 Rickenbacker 4003. The biggest issue is the case which has to be fiddled with to get the top to mate with the bottom latches. Over a grand and you get a less than desireable case.
Anyway, if you buy this bass, you'll love the action (mine was set up just fine) and the tone just kills.
Just my semi-pro opinion.

Comments about Fender American Standard Jazz Bass:
An awesome bass, absolute class. Traditional style and tone. Great Value and made in America.
-Case is over-rated(no mojo), prefer classic style.
The American Standard Jazz is the still the most iconic electric bass(arguabley) and all a traditional bassist needs. The modern touches serve not only as functional improvements but aesthetic as well. -No need for active electronics on this sweet bass, no need to break what doesn't need fixing.
-Features are perfect for me, however, not everyone wants the passive tone.
-Traditional alnico pickups. Love the string through body and high mass bridge.
-Wish Fender would let us pick knob and pickup cover configurations.
Nearly flawless. I purchased a demo model, conition 2, so it had a couple very fine scrathes but hardly visible to the naked eye.
-Action came set up nearly perfect out of the box(medium low).
-Premium parts make premium instruments.
-Excellent craftsmenship.
Make no mistake, even used this baby is going to set you back. However, you get a premium instrument for your hard dollar.
Comments about Fender American Standard Jazz Bass:
Purchased based on my similar great experience with M.F. on an American DeLuxe Strat.
I do personally prefer a red tortoise pickguard (like they used in the '60's) over the supplied brown pickguard. An option on new product would be welcome.
Has exactly the features I wanted, a modern update on the Jazz Bass I have been playing for YEARS
Everything is as it should be.
Great value Used like new & a discount coupon also.
Comments about Fender American Standard Jazz Bass:
I believe this is the Bass I've ever owned ...
I've been a bass player long time ...I play 75 shows a year ... I bought a 5 string American Fender Jazz Bass couple years a ago ...This is the best Bass I have ever owned.. I like the Fender sound and feel of the Jazz bass , So It was a no-brainer for me to buy a 4 String.. I've used it on 2 gigs ..right out of the box .. All is g00d !!! in the old dayz you had to "fuss" with a Fender ... to keep it playing well ...I didn't like that much ...I have to work on my Harley alot... that's enough. I do intend to put on a fresh set of Roto-Sounds very soon ..but decited to give those Fender Strings another Look ..
I love the color ..Really is c00l under the lights ... I got a great deal THANKS.... M F
Beautiful Paint !!! Flawless ... neck is perfect
Great deal !!!
