OVERVIEW

A modernized classic with all the right moves from Fender.

Fender introduced the American Standard Precision Bass guitar in 1951, and its thick sound and indestructible build changed popular music. Today's American Standard Precision Bass is the new version of one of the greatest instruments of bass heroes past and present; the modern interpretation of Fender's classic instrument refined for modern players.

The American Standard Precision Bass has a high-mass vintage bridge, Fender Custom Shop '60s Precision Bass split single-coil pickup, thinner finish undercoat that lets the body breathe and improves resonance, improved Fender tuners that are 30 percent lighter while keeping the classic look, richer and deeper neck tint for a more elegant appearance, great-looking gloss maple fingerboard, satin neck back for smooth playability and Fender Tolex case.

Comments about Fender American Standard Precision Bass with Maple Fingerboard:

I've been playing Bass for a long time and I've had a lot of instruments over the years, including back in the early '70's with a Fender Precision Bass in Sunburst with a Maple Neck....just like the one I just bought, an American Standard model. I wish I had never sold my old Fender but truthfully, I think this new one is actually better. I also have 5 other Basses...

The Precision Bass is the very definition of a "Classic" and it's as relevant in todays world as it was way back in 1951 when it first appeared. It sounds Great, it Feels Great and it Looks Great...it's Great...

Fender is making some VERY nice Guitars and Basses these days. I have a 2004 Fender Strat American Deluxe Guitar....in the same Sunburst finish with a Maple Neck...which is also beautiful...so my guitar and my new Bass are like Twins!

My one grip has to do with the screw location on the pick-up, since it kind of juts out rather than being a smooth surface. I like to rest my thumb on the pick-up and that protruding screw does get in the way a bit although I do have a work-around on it. The neck feels Fantastic. The Case is Really Nice and what can I say...This American Standard Precision is everything you can want from a Bass. I heartily recommend it.

Comments about Fender American Standard Precision Bass with Maple Fingerboard:

I love this bass! It sounds awesome, plays great, and it's a sexy beast! There's no style of music this bass cannot cover. I play rock, pop, blues, even a little country. This bass does it all. The new lighter tuners are solid and help relieve extra weight on the neck. The bridge is great, and I love the string-thru body. The neck seems to be slightly thinner than my '02 USA P bass, but I think I'm starting to like it. The black finish was flawless. I changed out the white pickguard with a black one to give it that 70's look. The pickup on this thing sounds great, definitely an upgrade.

Like most instruments, the bass arrived needing a set-up. Fortunately, the neck on this bass is near perfect and required only a little tweaking. I was surprised by how badly the intonation was set. I took care of that myself and after just a few minutes, she was ready to rock. Also, I wanted to raise the pickups higher, so I bought some foam and stuck it under the pickups so they would raise to the desired height. Still, no complaints here. This is to be expected from a brand new guitar that is shipped across the country.

        Setting a new standard

Comments about Fender American Standard Precision Bass with Maple Fingerboard:

Got this bass on Wednesday(01/14/15) & it's better than I expected,& the custom shop pickups just make this bass even better. I was worried about the weight but didn't need to be, it's so light and comfortable and feels nice on your knee or a strap. My only very small gripe is that at this price it should have come with straplocks as standard. I am hoping that this will be my last bass guitar that I buy it's fantastic.

Comments about Fender American Standard Precision Bass with Maple Fingerboard:

I have been playing a Spector Euro 4lx for almost 4 years. its a fancy bass with A P/J EMJ Active pickups.I've been using the bridge pickup alot more than the neck and would never turn the bridge pickup all the way down and let the neck pickup rock by itself. After a couple of battery misshaps I've decided I've had enough and decided to get a secondary simple and classic backup bass I wanted a modest bass to use in rehearsals to minimize the chance that the battery on my Spector would die on me during importent gigs . picking up a precision bass never crossed my mind since it had a little negative stereotyps among "modern" bass players.
I played a few Jazz basses and disliked them all. it felt way to cocky and arrogant. I picked up this precision and could't put it down. It broke every negative stereotype that jazz musician's had about this bass. it fits every style that I play (live): R&B seesions,a 12 piece Salsa orchestra and jazz bands not to mention rock. It has a very deep and soulful sound. when you reach the high note on your'e solo it gives you a smooth silky tone that might remind playing with a bow. I wanted to get a bass just for small sessions and it ended up being a personal favorite to use on gigs and recordings.

Comments about Fender American Standard Precision Bass with Maple Fingerboard:

I own 4 basses in all and just received this one and I can say it's my favorite. The electronics are as quiet as a church mouse with beautiful tone for such a simple package. The neck has a nice easy feel to it that doesn't tax your hand. The fit and finish are flawless and it's nicely balanced as it hangs off your shoulders. I had certain expectations when I ordered it and was not disappointed with any aspect of the guitar. It certainly lives up to Fenders reputation and history. I give it a 10 out of 10 rating and would say it's definitely worth spending the extra money over the Mexican standard P Bass or similar models.
