Comments about Fender Blacktop Jazz Bass:

I got this bass back in Feb. and I love it. The only problems I found are a lot of dead spots and the bridge pickup. A few months after I got it, the bridge pickup died dead. I'm waiting for the third repair shop I've taken it to for this problem because the other two couldn't figure it out. It's really irritating when you go to get that slap/sharp tone and you can't. Other than that, Fender did a great job.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Jazz Bass:

MF had an awesome price on this bass during their Labor Day sale, so I just couldn't resist because I've been saving for a decent bass to noodle around on for a while now.

It's a Mexican made Fender but, from what I've seen trying US-made standard J-basses in music stores, I don't think I'd be able to tell them apart blindfolded (except for the electronics and the Standard being around triple the price).

Of course, a lot of that is probably due to the fact that bass guitar isn't my first instrument. That said, I didn't need anything overly expensive but wanted some decent features, and this fit the bill perfectly.

The craftsmanship seems nice, and it showed up in immaculate condition. Thankfully, the setup was good right out of the box, as I'm sure no luthier. The neck is a little concave, but I'm not touching anything until it's had a chance to acclimate down here in Florida for at least a few days.

Anyway, just needed to tune it, and off I went to annoy the neighbors. I don't have a bass amp, so I ran it directly into a line-in on my mixer and played through the 15's on my PA. No fret buzz, and the action is nice and low. Sounds pretty Geddy-ish with both pickups and the tone knob cranked to max, which as a die-hard Rush fan made me pretty happy.

I had very good luck with my Mexican Telecaster for a long while (my youngest son is still playing it today), so I'm hoping this will stand that test of time as well. And, like all Fenders, it's got a limited lifetime warranty.

Couldn't be happier with this purchase!

Comments about Fender Blacktop Jazz Bass:

This was one of my favorite purchases. absolute great value for the money. I have listed fret buzz, but not becase it is a bad bass, but like other instruments this must be adjusted to fit the stings you are using. When I get that minor kink out, Im afraid to say this will be my number one bass. Blacktop line, to me looks and plays killer. The added pickup at the treble position brought this mainly "metal" fan back to Fender.

I was hesitant to buy a bass over the internet. At least from Musicians Friend.. I am not. Top notch packing and shipping.

I get this beautiful bass and right out of the box is in perfect condition and ready to play
The lows are so gritty and punchy and the highs are so clear and twangy it's MIND BLOWING
HIGHLY recommend for ANY genre of music
So much punch it could punch out Mike Tyson

I love the sound and feel of the neck. I guess I lucked out but mine was perfectly set up right out of the box and the intonation was dead on. This bass just looks good and plays and sounds good to my ear. There is really nothing more to say. It's a great bass.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Jazz Bass:

Out of the box, the neck needed adjusting to make it more comfortable to play, but now that has been done the quality and sound is what Fender has always been about. I was a bit apprehensive about the dual split pickups @ 1st, yet they give the bass a somewhat unique sound, although I can still achieve that famous Fender bass growl. Great value for the money and a definite upgrade from the Ibanez I have played for the last several years.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Jazz Bass:

Had this bass about a week now. Bass I recieved needed minor set up (truss 1/2 turn, had too much relief for my liking and lower string height slightly, re-adjust intonation). Bought the White Chrome Pearl, to me this bass looks more grey, when I put it next to an Olympic White bass. Paint job is beautiful with all the little sparkles in it. Definitly a nice color. This bass is made in Mexico, same as the standard series but to me it has some nice upgrades. The Himass bridge is excellent upgrade. The pickups on this bass are extremely hot. These are not standard typical type P-Pickups.
Quality: To me, same as standard series made in mexico but like I said with upgrades.
Playability: After set up is excellent as all my fenders are set up about the same. Not to high and not to low----no fret buzz. Bass has a jazz neck with the modern C shape, feels exactly the same as my 2011 Fender Standard Jazz bass.
Strings: I like the stock strings after the ring is worked out( usually about 2 weeks) that comes on this bass and use them on my standard Jazz as well. Give them a chance, most people are quick to change them out, once the ring is worked out this strings sound real nice and cut through the mix well.
Pickups: These babies are HOT, they have a nice growl. When I first plugged this bass in I thought it was active because the pickups were so hot. This bass has a wide variety of tones and many options. If you play just off the neck pickup it sounds similar to a P-Bass. When you just play off the bridge it sounds similar to a Jazz Bass. Combined you have pure thunder. I would call this a Jazz bass on steroids.
Overall impression: This is definitly one to add to your arsenal. I really love the tone options from this bass. The reason I bought this was because I love the sound of the P-Bass and the comfort of of a Jazz neck. What I got was a bonus. The ability to have the P-type tone with options of a growly Jazz sound. I am really enjoying this bass and would highly recommend this bass to someone looking for something different or who is tossed up between getting a P or J bass. You will not regret getting this bass. Its certainly a keeper.
