I like the comfy feel of a P-bass. This is a pretty bass, too. The neck feel is very nice, maybe not 'american', but nothing wrong with it. But the sound is what makes this bass what I'm looking for in an instrument. It has the boom and sustain of a P-bass, with the versatility in tone of a J-bass, without near the noise. I just got it, but played it in a jazz group tonight and sat around with it a while solo..... I like this bass A LOT!!

..... all I want is an American standard 5 string version now.....
The new bridge is solid, the saddles are massive, with a single groove. This blacktop Precision bass is about the pick ups, and the sound is awesome, strong and well balanced. I prefer the knurled metal knobs to the plastic ones this comes with, and would have preferred a single volume knob with pan-pot, this is the standard J-bass set up, but without the annoying buzz when the the two volume knobs aren't balanced, it works somewhat better. Small plastic knob for tone, but I generally keep it all the way up anyway.
This is pretty much your standard mexican Fender precision bass underneath, but the one I got is nice; the neck and frets are smooth, the finish fine, etc. I DO like the new 'white chrome pearl' (is that it?) finish; I have a 'blizzard pearl' old squire P-bass I always liked, but this Blacktop is a little lighter and more sparkly. The set up on mine was ok, I did tweak the action and intonation a smidgin, but that was more because I feel better if I mess with em.
For the money this bass rocks! I have other basses but most always PLAY Fenders; with the two good quality pick-ups added, at pretty much the standard-P bass price, this is a good value indeed.

I have had this bass for over a year now. It has been an okay bass. I have had some grounding issues with it and plan to trade up and let it be someone else's problem.

I have determined that the grounding issue is the bass, after swapping out heads, cabs, cords, you name it. Finally, I was having the issue with it "crackling," and I plugged my other bass in and it worked just fine. This can be extremely frustrating during a live show.

Other than that, I like the cosmetics and I like the tone that I can get out of it.

I can write all day on this subject. But what I really want to say is that if ur a young bass player you'll probably do the same thing I did for a long time & that is go thru a ton of different basses trying to find that one , but because we dont have a lot of money we keep going thru a bunch of cheap basses & thats why im writing this review. For the price point this bass is that one...quality, playability, tone. These e the reasons why we pick a guitat when we play & at this price good luck finding that in about 98 percent of the cheap priced basses out there. So I highly recommend this bass to anyone out looking for a bass at this price that feels like it cost at least tthree times more.

just when you thought you had all the "basses" covered this fender bass comes along. first of all the finish (black on black) is perfect well finished could not find a flaw and i was looking hard. the neck is fantastic fret and nut work second to none. "c" shaped neck 9.5 radius very nice.the pickups are true monsters they deliver a deep and varied sound you can dial anything rock, metal, jazz blues, it is truly amazing. i have an american fender p deluxe, and american fender jazz and this blacktop is over the top. the tone is very effective the spectrum of sound is very wide from the capacitor. all the hardware is top the bass feels like it cost more than what they are selling for. don't let this bass get away it is fabulous leo would have been proud.

I just started playing the bass about 6 months ago. I have an acoustic electric Fender bass. I have a friend that has an older Fender P-bass and I like the way it plays. The new Fender P-bass I bought has better tone and is easier to play than the acoustic.

                Blacktop P-Bass

Comments about Fender Blacktop Precision Bass:

Had this bass for a couple of weeks now. Slapped some D'Addario ECB82s on her and she came to life. The round wounds were too hot and 'shiny' for my liking, but with flats, this bass comes into her own, thumping out warm, woody tone all day long. The tone knob actually give a great variety of useable tones in concert with the fun pickup combos you can dial in. Fit and finish exceeded my expectations, particularly for an instrument at this price point, and the set-up out of the box was spot on (though I had to tweak the saddles a bit after the restring, which is expected. I would've given the bass a '9' except for a couple of niggling things that I believe Fender could have done such as a couple more finish options (and in my humble opinion a maple 'board would've been great). All in all, for the money, you can't go wrong.
Who can complain? The pickups give you just what Fender says, P-bass tone with attitude. Plus, the tone knob give you a great variety of useable sounds. Why Fender doesn't ship with flatwounds is beyond me, but what's a boy to do?
Fit and finish were above what I expected for a bass at this price point. I would have preferred knurled dome knobs, but that's just me. I thought I'd end up 'upgrading' the bridge, but it's more than up to the task.
There's no way you can get this much bass anywhere else for the money. Believe me, I've looked. For five bills, you're going to love it.

I am completely satisfied with this bass guitar. You would never know it's not made in the USA. I would highly recommend this bass to anyone looking for a good value and great sound.
I really like the two volume knobs and the smaller tone knob. There's no doubt which one is the tone knob.
                Excellent quality instrument.
Very good bass guitar for the money.

Comments about Fender Blacktop Precision Bass:

I didn't expect to see this bass sitting on the showroom floor when I went to my local shop so I gave it a whirl and twenty minutes later I was purchasing it. What caught my eye was the sparkle, the really dark rosewood fretboard coupled with the creme dots. I love the simple controls. The description says the pickups are humbuckers, but I'm willing to guess these are stacked jazz pickups. This thing sounds great. Used it in my blues band last night and couldn't have been happier. I'm going to be recording some metalcore with it as well, it's that versatile. While examining the bass, I didn't see a rear rout so I was floored to hear such a massive passive sound. The bridge is sturdy and way better than the standard MIM P bass. Intonation is slightly off but that's an easy fix. Compared to the Blacktop Jazz, I felt this one was superior in every way.

                from NJ

Comments about Fender Blacktop Precision Bass:

The Blacktop Precision sounds like an active bass, but without the cost, and without the battery hassles.

The set-up and intonation are dead-on, with no adjustments necessary. Every note is clear and on pitch, even on the E string. My Warwicks aren't even this accurate.

Two observations: 1) The white pearl color looks more like a champagne sparkle.
                2) Fender shouldn't assume that every player wants roundwound strings.
                Nice and simple.
Couldn't find any flaws. Workmanship is just as good as my older Fenders.
                Big sound for small dollars.
